~This takes place in the world of Ioron, on the continent of Avaria. Avaria makes up 1/4 of all Ioron, and is the most magickal of the continents. Think of it as Lord of the Rings-ish as far as being sort of old-timey, all the forests and whatnot, but with more varieties of peoples/beings and magicks.~
SUMMARY: X (your character-give him a name) is the best friend and royal companion of Aresios Kallesreth, crown prince and sole heir to the throne of Damarsus. The twenty one year old has been Aresios's faithful companion for ten years. But after a fight between the two one night, he wishes he could be a prince and that Aresios knew how it felt to be X..surprise, when he awakes, he finds that everyone thinks he is the prince and that Aresios is his companion. And his twin sister Eurysa is thought to be a princess! Meanwhile, Z (your other character, give him a name) is a thief who happens to be prince Aresios's long lost older brother (although he doesn't remember it) and finds himself imprisoned when he attempts to steal from the castle, only to be rescued by Tallyn, his thief partner and if Z gets his way, lover. And so the twisted tale begins!
~Prestory~
When Aresios and X were nine and ten years old, and Eurysa, X's sister was ten, and also ten minutes younger than her twin-X. Aresios saved the pair from drowing when a stray wagon wheel trapped the two underwater. He'd grabbed the axel holding the wheel together and broken it, gaining a large cut on the top of his left hand that has left a thin, white scar to this day. The nine year old then dragged the unconscious Eurysa to the shore with the help of X. Aresios had been training with his sword instructor Arguen that day, and he opted to take in the children. Arguen is the closest thing to a father X and Eurysa have, and he is currently in another kingdom guarding the king since he is now Champion of the Realm, second only to the prince and king, and on equal level with the Royal Magician and Royal Advisor. He will remember them due to the love he bears 'his' children..and in fact, they truly are his children. Thirty-seven year old Arguen had them at age seventeen, going on eighteen, with none other than Ruary, supposed mother of Aresios and Z. But since they are illegitimate, it technically does not make them royalty, they'd be considered 'bastards'. However, in truth, Aresios is the son of the king and a witch named Almara, who is also Z's mother.
Ruary and Arguen were in love, but Ruary was to marry the king who would have fostered Ruary's children as his own..but she unfortunately didn't trust that he would and that was why they were sent away. She married the king, who married her despite her being a non-virgin, and found that she was happy..even though she truly loved Arguen. The next year, Aresios was born, one year younger than X and Eurysa. But this was not Ruary's child.. the king had been convinced to commit a single act of infidelity as well. A witch predicted that Ruary would fall terribly ill if she grew pregant and to save her, the king had but to bear two children by the witch, the younger of whom would serve as the child the Queen would lose and she would save Ruary when that time came. So from the witch was born Aresios's eight months older brother, Z. Brother to Aresios, and of no relation to Eurysa and X. Z has no knowledge of who he is, and was raised by the witch, Almara, his mother. The younger, Aresios, was given to the king the night Ruary miscarried.. When she suddenly disappeared a year and a half ago, he took to the road and became a thief...feeling strangely drawn to the castle of Damarsus, and within the first two weeks of his journey, he meets Tallyn, who saves Z from a few skinners, slang for a cop..As for Ruary, she was saved and lived five more years after the birth of Alesios before dying of an as of yet unknown cause.
(To summarize the relations- Ruary is the mother of Eurysa and X. Eurysa and X are twins, Aresios is of no relation, and their father is Arguen (although they don't know it). The King, Aresios's father, laid with the witch Almara to have Aresios and Z. Z and Alesios are brotheres brothers, Z is in no way related to Eurysa or X.)
Going to more present times, Aresios and X are as close as any best friends can be, and Aresios and Eurysa are as close as brother and sister. X loves and adores his sister and best friend, but he finds himself often feeling like his place in life isn't just as Aresios's companion..he wants more than that for his sister and himself. And then..there's the troubling feelings he has for Aresios.. But of course..as a lowly orphan, he figures he doesn't have a chance and that all of Aresios's affections are nont romantic and that they'll only ever be friends. And he doesn't bring it up to Aresios because he thinks the other might reject him-which isn't the truth, X is just being a bit paranoid. Aresios has feelings for X as well. (on Ioron, same-sex couples are fine so long as an heir is produced on the side)
The night our story begins, X is searching for Aresios who was to have been finishing up a magick lesson, but then he overhears speaking and though it's muffled, he thinks one of them is Aresios speaking. The people are discussing X, the companion, and his sister Eurysa. The voice he thinks is Aresios's begins talking about plans to sell Eurysa to the Earl of Withmore, a man in his sixties who was known for being a general pervert and reveling in taking girls against their will. Naturally, X is stunned and hurt, and can't believe that Aresios would say such things..he doesn't believe it, until the man says something about his powers as prince. What he doesn't realize, is that Aresios's scheming cousin Yaran is the one he's hearing, a person who should not have been in the kingdom at all. Which is why his voice sounds similar enough to Aresios that while muffled, it sounds like him. Convinced that it's Aresios, X listens as he talks about the meddlesome X and selling him to Mistress Evanna. A woman known for her unsatiable appetite for men and humiliating them while taking her pleasure..X is aghast and nearly in tears he runs from the door, searching for his sister. About half an hour later, he finds Aresios instead.
Aresios has just come from an herb lore lesson with Eurysa, who is quite the skilled hedge witch. He tries to speak to X, who flares up and starts asking why Aresios would betray him like this and being mocking anytime Aresios tries to deny it. At no point should he reveal why he's so upset with Aresios, though he should mention that he refuses to be sold..at which Aresios will make a rather stupid comment..either way, it will end with X storming off to his room and wishing that he could be in charge of his own life, that he could be a prince and that Aresios knew what it felt like to have no control. He'll fall asleep..and when he wakes up, it will be to the sounds of a rather angry Aresios and the guards holding the 'prince's companion'.

~Important Information~
The couples are:
Aresios and X, and Tallyn and Z. I'll deal with them finding out their parentage and whatnot. Z shouldn't be brought in until at least ten pages into the story. He'll be sneaking into the castle and end up meeting Eurysa. Z will know she's not the princess, he'll have the right memories by virtue of his blood, but he's more interested in stealing than as to why prince Aresios is now thought of as a companion. At this point, X, who's getting a bit power-crazed, will see the thief with his sister and send him to the dungeons. Tallyn, who was supposed to be working another thief job, will save him and as he's getting Z out of the dungeons, Aresios will come because of sort of being drawn there. Z should take out his dagger and grab Aresios, intending to use him to make sure he gets out safetly..until he sees something on Aresios's neck. A silver necklace with a half-heart, reading 'hers'. Z has the exact necklace, except with the letters 'brot'. When put together..it spells 'brothers'. And upon realizing this, he'll let Aresios go and they'll be confused of course with no explanation as to why they have them.
As for X and Aresios, X still loves his friend very much..and he's hurt and angered by what he heard. So when the guards bring Aresios, he'll be too surprised to do anything but get the guards away from Aresios and bring him into the room that belongs to the prince, who is now X. Then X can get angry again and explain why he's so angry and then Aresios will tell the truth, yada yada. Eurysa will be the proof that it couldn't have been Aresios, since he was with her the whole time. Then X and Aresios will make up for that bit of time..until X really realizes what's happened, he is now the prince, he is in control. X should get a bit power crazed and when Aresios annoys him/makes him angry, he should force Aresios to do some servant-ish stuff or at least try to force him. X thinks being a prince will be a piece of cake and that it will do Aresios some good to see things from X's angle..little does he know being a prince isn't as easy as he thought. And of course..now that X is the prince..Aresios couldn't possibly reject him. Needless to say, X is a happy camper.~
