(Jump)(Time) – 500 Years

A quiet and uneasy three years had passed by since the Varden, the resistance, acquired their third Dragon Rider. Relena’s and Silfer’s joining marked beginning of the first few steps to the war that would decide all, the final war. With the first victory for the Varden the King had oddly withdrew from the battle, taking his army with him. He only appeared on rare occasion making many believe that he was frighten and retreating. The fools they were!

*^*^*^*
The King looked out one the windows in his throne room, his arms crossed behind his back as he watch Dras-Leona citizens run about. His face was impassive, uncaring. He had made the first move to start things up and he had lost, greatly. He turned his head slightly to the opening of throne room doors. Darsa, his dark wizard, walked in. “I gave you a simple order, Darsa,” stated the King, “Bring me the female rider of Carvahall. Why do you stand alone before me?” Darsa watch his master turned to him as he spoke, clearing his throat he spoke, “She destroyed my shadow creatures that I had sent after her before vanishing. She stayed in the air, leaving no trail to be tracked. My lord.” The king sighed heavily at the respond, “You failed to answer my question. Why is she not before me?” Darsa swallow quickly, “I lost her, sire.” An invisible blow taking Darsa breath away sent him crashing to the floor trying get back the lost air. “One, simple task. Bring me the young female rider. One would be lead to believe by your boosting earlier that the task was beneath you. Have I been mislead,” asked the King, releasing his hold on Darsa. Darsa slowly got to his feet and shook his head feverishly, “No, my lord. I will bring her to you…as order.”
*^*^*^*

During these three years of quiet and a skeptical peace, the Varden made recruiting their main objective. Their ranks would triple at the end of the three years. However, unknown to the Varden, the elves had sent their ranks out into the world and began to gather up the dragon eggs. Their secret would stay unknown for nearly two years before leader of the Varden, the Dragon Lady, would catch wind of it. A dwarf had found a dragon egg up in the Beor Mountains while scouting. His elfin partner immediately attacked him after the dwarf had refused to turn over the egg. This ruckus quickly brought unwanted attention to the elves when the dwarf relayed what happen to the Dragon Lady.

*^*^*^*
“You have been WHAT!” Everyone in the room flinched, including the Ellesmera leaders. Once out in the open, the elves quickly demanded a meeting in their territory. No one agreed, so here they where, in the heart of the Varden resistances. The elves made an attempt to look intimidating, “Our reasoning is our own. We don’t need to give you an excuse.” Veins were popping out all over the Dragon Lady formed. Sang, who was currently leaning on the wall with one foot planted on the same wall, leaned over to Relena. The blonde women stood next to him with her arms crossed over her chest as her eye darted between the two elves rattling on at the Varden leader. “Left?” “Right,” answered Relena as she made a beeline for the elf on right. Sang was right behind her heading for the left one. Knowing something was wrong, the elves spun around to meet Sang’s and Relena’s fists sailing across their jaw line. The room went deafly quiet as the two elfin leaders sprawled out onto the floor. The Dragon Lady arched an eyebrow at her two dragon riders, “That is my job. Now, back to where you were.” Both riders smirked at one another as they walked back to their assigned wall to wait by. Each didn’t have an all too much liking for the elves. The elfin leader looked at the Dragon Lady, their eyes demanding punishment. The room darkened and became very, very cold as the Dragon Lady loomed over her desk staring at them, “Be happy it was them and not me, leaders.” She gave a quick look of disapproval at the snickering coming from the timeout wall. “What on this damn world possessed you to start gathering up the remaining dragon eggs, without out telling us? I am sure what is worst, this or the fact that you are only allowing the eggs to hatch to elfin riders!” Relena shook her head, shifted her weight to another foot, “You wasting your breath, the elves have always believed that they are the best candidates for becoming riders. They don’t want anyone else to become one. However, not all of the eggs are meant for elves. Some do have a destine rider that will be human!” The last bit was directed at the leaders glared at the female rider, “Last time I recalled, we trained you and raised you!” Relena growled and snapped at them, “My father raised me and Brom trained me, assholes!” Sang pulled her back to the wall, “Enough, enough!” The Dragon Lady fingers drummed against her desk as she sat back down. “Either way! The deed is done. The question is now, where have you taken the eggs? We need to see if anyone of the Varden's people, even the dwarves, are possible riders,” exclaimed the Dragon Lady loudly, her temper pushing its limits. The elfin leaders looked at one another before answering, “The eggs will remain hidden, only the people of Ellesmera will know their whereabouts and we will continue to gather them.” Birds took to the sky and animals scattered as the Beor Mountains shook violently. “WHAT!!!!!”
*^*^*^*

The majority of the eggs now were hidden from the world. Their whereabouts unknown to all but the elves, who strongly believe they were only ones worthy of being Dragon Riders. Shortly after the unveiling of the elves sneaking around did Brom and Wanda make the long trip from Ellesmera to Beor Mountains. Again the Elves loudly voiced their disapproval of Wanda, their Dragon Rider, leaving. Wanda reply was along the lines of “Go ******** Yourselves!”

*^*^*^*
Wanda outstretched her arms as she grinned at Relena, “Relenaaaaaa…huh?” Relena zipped by her and wrapped her arms around Brom giving him a large bear hug. “I missed you, you old geezer,” she murmured quietly. Brom was not that old, but it was small joke the two had, “Missed you as well Kiddo.” The two immediately glared at each other. Wanda crossed her arms over her chest and began to tap her foot, “Beg your pardon. I am your sister, what about my hug!?” Relena and Brom laughed making her puff up like a blowfish at them, “Hey, I want my hug now!” Relena hugged her, “Happy now.” The younger sister grinned ear to ear and gave the victory sign with her hand. By now Sang and Mai had made the mistake of walking into the large room, their dragons behind them. Mai’s health had been slowly deteriorating. She had never truly recovered after Relena joining the Varden, her health constantly going up and down but never the less it was getting worst and worst as time moved on. Today was one of Mai’s rare good days and during those Sang would spend the entire day with Mai, getting her out of the hospital and out and about. The moment Wanda eyes settle on Mai, she rushed over, “Oh! I heard about you! You’re Rain, no Mei, not that…oh what was it.” “Mai,” hollered both Relena and Brom. “Right, Mai…I knew that,” said Wanda as she glared at the two before turned back to Sang and Mai. Mai soon found the women hugging, her eye widen and hastily looked at Relena with uncertainty. “I am so sorry for your health. Don’t worry though, I am here now. I know a lot of elfin treatments!” “Her doctor an elf,” chimed Relena. “Okay, I am the perfect assistant.” “The elfin doctor has four assistances with the solo job of attending to Mai needs,” chimed Relena once again. Wanda frowned but suddenly smiled, “I can ask the top elf doctor back in Ellesmera to help. I am sure when he hears that the patient is a Dragon Rider, he will come running.” Everyone in the room suddenly hollered out, “No!” After the last meeting with the leader of Ellesmera, the people of the Varden wanted the bare minimum contact with them. That and the elves only objective would be to get their claws into Mai, permanently. Mai cough suddenly, falling into Sang arms, “I don’t feel so good Sang. I think we should head back.” Sang nodded and looked up to Wanda, “I was nice to meet you Wanda.” Her dragon, Ra, suddenly blew a puff of smoke at Sang, “And your dragon.” Ra had been quietly waiting in the corner of the room as Wanda faltered about. Everyone knew what Mai problem was and it wasn’t her poor health. Wanda nodded her head quickly, “Okay, I will come and visit you later!” Mai quickly shook her head, “No! I mean, I sleep most of the time and when I am not, I wish to spend that time with Sang. You understand don’t you?” Brom and Relena both had arching eyebrow at Mai, who quickly glared at them with threatening eyes. Both quickly darted down one of the many corridors. Wanda closed her eyes and nodded, “oh…OH….I understands! Private time, understood.” Mai and Sang looked at one another, apparently their escape plan was misinterpreted. Either way, they took off down the other hallway. Wanda open her eyes to hug Mai again before they left, “Huh…where did everyone go!?”
*^*^*^*

Mai health had suddenly taken a turn for the worst after Wanda arrival. Her body had stopped responding to her commands and according to her doctor soon her own heart and lungs were stop to listen to her commands for them to beat and breathe for her. It had been months since she had left her bed. Sang had not left her side since, becoming her personal protector and guardian. Her dragon Rain was slowly beginning to feel the effects of her rider illness came to the extremes. She too began to tire and began remained in bed as well. Rumors soon began to surfaces out of nowhere that a spy had infiltrated the Varden since before Relena’s joining. However sudden the rumors the Dragon Lady took every action to find out the truth, and the truth was quickly found.

*^*^*^*
Sang paced back and forth in front of the door that the spy was being held behind after he was caught fleeing. Brom and Relena looked at him, about to grow insane due to the pacing. Brom was the first to speak, “Enough, you’re wearing a hole in the rock floor.” Sang head snapped up, “You are not the one in a medical bay thinking that the next time you fall asleep, you won’t wake up!” Relena inserted herself between the two that were about to settle things with their fists, “I will get the Dragon Lady, who apparently had been postponed. Don’t make me get Wanda to watch you too!” Both men went to the opposite sides of the hallway, backs turned to one another. She needed to get the temperamental woman now. Within minutes she had the Dragon Lady before the holding room. “I will go in alone, remain here,” she stated quietly. Sang was quick to head in her direction, ready to give her an ear full. Brom and Relena were faster as they dragged him away from the door and the woman. “Don’t take your time, “Both said as they restrained Sang. Lack of rest and nourishment had put Sang in a very foul mood, not to mention his worry for Mai had put him in an even worst one. Three days pasted after that and once Sang had food and sleep all three were called up to the Dragon Lady office. She looked at the three, “Selena was on the one pulling the strings of the informant. While getting information was one of task the informant was suppose to do, the main task was to kill Mai. Now I don’t know much about this Dragon Rider, however…,” the dwarf from so long ago that guide Sang and Mai to the Varden stepped up, “I have been told that she had a personal hatred for Mai with Sang at the heart of it.” Sang opened his mouth to speak but the Dragon Lady raised her hand to stop him, “I don’t honestly care what happen Sang. That is your own business. However…Selena is your problem, and must be dealt with by you. It is time to face this unknown demon of yours young man.” Relena decide it was time for a subject change, “And Mai?” Brom stepped up, “The treatments are being a success, and Mai is recovery quickly. Within a week she will be able to leave the hospital. Give a few more and she will be ready to train. Time to play catch up.” The Dragon Lady quickly added, “She is awake now.” The moment she finished speaking a door slammed shut and Sang was nowhere to be seen. Relena looked over to the Dragon Lady, shaking her head, “And off the informant.” “Quite tasty,” she looked up suddenly to see an odd look from Brom and Relena. Wanda had just entered the room, freezing the moment she heard the answer to Relena’s question, “What the---.” “Taken care of,” the Dragon Lady quickly spoke, “Dismissed!”
*^*^*^*

The three years end quickly thereafter and Mai sky rocketed. Fully recovered and ready to make up for lost time, Sang new job was personal trainer. Brom wasn’t about to go within ten feet of that wildfire. However, in Helgrind, Selena was not the happiest of women. She no longer had eyes on Sang and Mai was not dead. Selena hatred for Mai was a living deity.

*^*^*^*
Selena dug her nails into the balconies railing leaving marks in the wood, “Damn, damn, damn, damn it!” “You plan back fire my dear.” Selena turned slightly and glared daggers at Darsa, “If I remember correctly, so did yours red.” She instantly regretted opening her mouth as Darsa closed the gap between them. He pulled her to him and off the ground by her throat, “Watch yourself woman, remember who trained you and who holds your fate!” He released her and she moved away from him, well as far as the other end of the balcony would allow her. She hissed as she watched her blue dragon below killing some prisoners as he trained. “Forgive me,” she apologize, “I just want that witch dead.” Darsa smiled, “And I need to capture the female rider of Carvahall. What would stay if I could you a chance at killing Mai again?” Selena turned to him, looking at him oddly. “My shadow beasts have reported back to me that Varden is planning on attacking Helgrind. An attempt to further their numbers. It just so happens that three Dragon Riders will be with them,” explained Darsa as he waved his hand threw a torches flame, continuing to do so, “Sang, Mai, and Relena. We both could get what we want.” Selena leaned on the railing behind her and smirked, “How long?” “Right about,” started Darsa as he looked into the sky, “Now.”

Above them the sky suddenly light up as balls of fire fell down upon the prison walls. Selena looked up to see Mai flying in and out of the cloud line. In mere seconds Selena was charging Mai on her dragon. Their swords clashed together making sparks fly down to the ground below. Mai pushed her back, “I believe I owe you something.” Selena looked at her oddly, “What?” “This,” said Mai as she tackled her out her saddle, leaving their dragon to duke it out in the sky. The two girls landed in a pile of hay before continuing a nonstop, unrelenting, all out, head on brawl with each other. Each had hatred to fuel one another’s fighting. Sang and Relena went to help out but Darsa tackled Silfer, send the four up into the clouds. Sang reared back to help, “Relena!” “I got him, help Mai,” hollered out Relena before she vanished from site with Darsa close behind her. Sang went to help Mai out, but he too got held up with the small army that was flowing out of the prison gates. Mai and Selena battle went deep into the prison. Mai was proud of herself for keep up with Selena but it was short lived as Selena dragon burst through the wall and swiped her claws at Mai. Mai was thrown through a wall, which was lucky already falling apart. She got to her feet but her sword was lost and Selena dragon closing the gap between them. Mai quickly barked out, “Can’t take me down on your own. You’re a coward Selena, just like before when you sent someone else to poisoning me!” Selena halted her dragon and snarled at Mai, “You took something from me and my life!” Mai took a fighting stance, “Then come and get me b***h!”

Sang finally made it through his attackers and ran to were Mai and Selena had gone. It didn’t take him long to the Selena. “Where is Mai,” he yelled. Selena twisted the tip of her sword deeper into the dirt at her feet, “Do you remember that promise you made to me Sang.” Sang breathe hitched, “Yeah, but it is no reason to your anger out on Mai.” Selena jumped up from her seat and roared at Sang, “You promised me! Me Sang! Not her. I loved you and you love me, but the moment she came to the despot of a town, everything changed.” She turned to her dragon that had Mai tightly in her claws, “She is the one that cause all of this. When she is gone, we can go back to the way things were.” Sang could only watch as the blue dragon began to squeeze Mai to dead.

“Perhaps he made the wise choice after all Selena,” said Relena as her dragon slammed into Selena’s. With the dragon grip loosen, Mai slipped free and landed on the floor. Selena screamed at Relena, “How dare you get involved!” Relena jumped up and grabbed the wooden beam above her before kicking Selena square in the chest with both her feet. Selena staggered back. “She all yours now Sang,” said Relena she went to Mai, “The Selena you used to know is long gone.” Sang draw his sword and brought it down on Selena as she went to guard herself. The sword locked at the hilt but Sang sent his knee to her gut forcing her back once again. Sang raise his sword for a death blow but Selena’s dragon pushed him away from her with his shoulder. His sword slid away from him as he came to stop. Relena’s dragon jumped in between him and dragon and roared threatening. Mai was roughly pulled to her feet by Relena as she moved away from the thrashing tail of Selena’s dragon as it attempted to behead Mai. Both girls tumbled away from the attack as Selena pulled herself into her dragon’s saddle. She drew her sword but froze as Surete and Rain crashed through the ceiling on either side of them. She looked at Sang, “This is not over,” before her dragon launched into the sky, retreating.
*^*^*^*

Sang was now able to put his guilt behind despite some of problems being cause by him. Either way, the woman he knew was no more. Selena was no more than a twisted mind bent on destruction. When the three returned to Beor Mountains they heard the bad news. The King had purposely lured most of the Varden forces to Helgrind after placing many that hated him there. While they focused on Helgrind he attacked Ellesmera with his main force, entering the battle himself, after founding out were their elfin city was. It was still unclear to this day on how he knew of their location, it was quite possible that he always knew. However, the reports were staggering. Three fourths of elfin population was killed and the majority of the one that lived were in critical condition. The city was beyond recognition; the forest was left to burn out of control. Even worst news was to come. In a desperate attempt to offer help, Wanda and the Dragon Lady had rushed over to help. Neither survived.

*^*^*^*
Relena became colder than the Hadarack Desert nights the moment Wanda death graced her present. A few weeks earlier she had gone to Hedarth to search for Ryu, someone she cared about greatly. What she found was chaos and destruction. The village had been wiped off the map due to the King attempting increase his ranks and rid himself of possible new Varden soldiers. The higher ups of the Varden had called Brom to an emergency the moment they arrived back. Despite their strong disapproval he pulled Relena along with him. Now she stood in the ex-leader of the Varden personal chambers as the highers attempted to persuade Brom to become their new leader. “Brom,” her voice was barely registered by Brom, but he caught it and turned to her, completely ignoring the highers, “I told her to stay. I was supposed to, she was restless and bore, but I said no and changed her mind. She was supposed to be with Mai and Sang. It should have been---.” The woman that barely showed emotion, making many believe she was deflected, was becoming a puddle on the floor. Brom quickly scooped her up in his arms and order the highers out. That night everyone mourned the loss of one of their rider and leader. Only Brom and Relena didn’t attend the service.
*^*^*^*

It would be exactly two months after Brom took the title of leader of the Varden resistance that all would come to an abrupt end. Once again Relena began to cast her emotions off, however now she began to show them more offend. Apparently the outburst was what she need at the time to open a bit more up. It didn’t take long for the King to challenge the Varden and the Varden didn’t refuse it either. This battle took place in the Hadarack Desert and lasted for weeks.

*^*^*^*
A surviving elf commander burst into the command tent, “How much longer until they get here. We won’t last much longer with our main force coming from the Beor Mountains.” “With our Dragon Riders,” another man added. The Varden had rushed their fastest recruits to keep the King’s army in the heart of the Hadarack Desert and not on their front door step. They knew they would lose if the battle was brought to their headquarters with the King personally leading the army. A tall and thin man stepped up, “Our scout didn’t return. We have no clue.” The elf ran her hand down her face. Even with the King remaining on the sidelines for the time being his army mixed army of humans and monsters were slaughtering her small army. She just didn’t have enough to hold back the monstrous army. The elf suddenly jumped back as the ground shook. Moments later Brom and three dragon riders enter the tent. All four individuals were in full armor and armed from head to toe. Brom nodded his head slowly to each of the commanders in the tent, “Sorry we’re late.”

The King watched as Selena paced back and forth in front of him. Even his renowned patience was at its limits. “Stop pacing,” he snapped at the woman successfully making her jump back with a hiss. Before Selena could snap back, most likely resulting in being beheaded, Darsa walked in. “We may have a slight delay in our plans." Both of them looked at him, “What delay…” The three walked out of the tented and looked out across the battle flied. Ten of thousand of Varden soldiers were ran across the dune, weapons drawn, straight to the battle field. You couldn’t even see the sand below their feet, there was that many! The King looked up to see three dragons’ above them and on their backs rode the Varden three dragon riders. A few smaller and not yet mature dragons and riders ran alongside the main army. He arched an eyebrow at the reinforcements, “Not a delay, merely an annoyance. I want the dragon riders and their dragon’s alive…” Darsa bow as the King went back inside the tent. He gave a small smirk at that furious Selena.

After two weeks for zero progress at all, the King summon Darsa and Selena to his tent. “Why have we not moved into the Beor Mountains,” he asked in a friendly tone that Darsa knew was not what it appeared. He quickly pushed Selena to the floor before her temper got both of them in trouble, “The Varden’s army is…by far more….experience than lead to believe. I am sorry to say, but I believe this will be the deciding battlefield my lord.” The King walked past them, smiling. Selena tripped Darsa over and was now attempting to beat the bloody hell out of him. “Then it is time for the real battle to start,” said the King making Darsa and Selena halt in their mini battle.

Sang and Relena dragons flipped over one another in the air as their rider hacked away at the King dragon rider portion of his army. Silfer slammed into a smaller dragon making the dragon crash into the ground taking its rider with it to death. She let out a mighty roar that was soon followed by Surete and Rain as they combine their fire breath to roost two dragon riders charging them. Sang pulled back on Surete rain making her jump back in mid air as he hacked down the dragon trying to come up behind Mai. He gasped slightly, “Damn, small as they may be…their numerous bastards.” Relena swooped down next to them, “Then let me even the odds slightly.” Silfer took off into the cloud line, vanishing from sight. Soon Relena voice could be heard in the thundering clouds that formed. “Hear my commands heavens. Strike down my opponents. Show them the fury of a god!” The sky suddenly shot down in great tornados as lightning arched down, attacking the slower riders. Mai looked over to Sang, “Let’s go lower, or we may too be caught in this spell.” Sang and Mai took down to the ground. The moment they got out of the reach of the spell, Selena dragon crashed into Rain nearly knocking Mai out of the saddle. “Miss me b***h,” holler Selena as the two tumbled into a large cloud. Sang was about to follow after them but a roar shook the heavens. Behind him soared the King on his enormous midnight black dragon, “Come boy, show me what you are made off.”

Mai had a vulcan death grip on her saddle as Rain stabled herself. Rain whined at her, her side protesting the attack. Mai pulled herself back into the saddle, “Don’t worry, she is about to feel far worst.” Selena came down fast and hard on top of Mai and Rain. A shock wave echo from their colliding swords. Selena attempted deflect Mai blade to slash at her by Mai held fast. “I am stronger, faster, and---,” Selena was cut off as Mai head butted her, knocking her off her dragon. “Yeah, but I got the thicker skull,” hollered Mai as Selena’s dragon broke off to catch her. Selena landed in her dragon saddle, blood trickling down her face. She looked at Mai, “I am still going to kill you!”

Surete cried out as the King’s dragon tail made contacted with her scaly head, dazing her as she fell to the ground below. Sang held on for dear life as Surete made a violent corrections to stop her fall. The King laughed above him as he began to chant, “So pathetic. Red as blood and as sharp as diamonds from Mother Nature. Arch from the skies and make ribbons of this poor---.” “I don’t think so,” screamed Relena as Silfer swapped her claws across the King’s dragon face. Silfer claws dug in deep into dragon’s eye socket making it cry out, pulling away to guard it wounded face. Relena jerked her head up as a banshee cry sound about her. Darsa charged her on his shadow beast, “My King!” “You really need to get a new role model,” said Relena as Silfer pulled away from the wounded dragon, “Sang, you think you can hold on bit longer. It won’t take long for Mai and me to finish up our small….interruptions.” Sang watched Relena and Darsa vanished into the stormy cloud line, “Better hurry, there’s not going to be much of him left when I am done.”

A full hour passed as Sang and the King fought. The King punched Sang left shoulder making him rear back. Surete quickly put distance between them. Sang was panting. He was tired and had a very sore and batter body. The King had proved to more of handful than he expected. The King chuckled, “You couldn’t possible beat me boy. I have hundreds of years on you. Now…submit.” Sang looked up at the King, he knew there was no way for him to defeat the King. He opened his mouth, “I…” “Don’t tell me you giving up that easily,” said Relena as she came along side him on the right. “What happen to that fire,” question Mai on his left. Both women had very satisfying grins on their faces as they set their gazes on the King. Sang flexed his fingers on the hand that held his sword, “What, I was just taking a breather.”

Brom kicked a soldier away from him before bring the tip of his sword down on the man’s chest. Sensing a force behind him he spun around let his blade slice right into the chest of young dragon about three times his size. The dragon fell on the ground making it shake. The dragon’s rider was thrown away from it. “Green Sulfer,” cried out the rider. Brom couldn’t help but pity the rider as its dragon died. It reminded him of his own dragons fall. The rider charged him, sword drawn, but Brom quickly and easily disarmed him. Brom went for a killing blow but the young boy had vanished. A cry was heard above him as Relena and Silfer tumbled to the ground. They corrected at the last minute and followed an up draft back into the clouds. Brom let out a sigh of relief, “Give him hell you three…”

The King swung his sword at Mai but Sang slipped in and deflected it. Relena, now back up in the air, jumped from her dragon and landed on the black dragon back. She ran up to the King and locked both of them in a dual, “Remember me a*****e!” Sang and Mai began to relentlessly attacked his dragon as Relena gave it her all in her dual with the King. It only lasted a few minutes before the King’s dragon pull a few three sixties in the air knocking everything away from it. Silfer duck down and caught Relena, helping her back into the saddle, as all three dragon rider regrouped. Relena had managed to nail the King shoulder, his sword swinging one. Mai pat Rain shoulder, “I still can’t tell if we will win or not.” Sang watched the King pull away slightly, like he was planning something, “I was lead to believe he was almighty. Why are we not dead? We keep hacking away at him, but nothing sticks.” Relena shook her head, “He is. He is holding back.” Both riders looked at her like she was nuts. They were pushing their limits and she thought he was holding back on them, but he was. Silfer charged him suddenly but the King lashed back knocking the two out of the sky. Both crashed into the soft sand below, unharmed but stunned. Sang eyes widen, “He had the perfect opportunity to kill her, but he didn’t.” Mai looked at him oddly. Why not kill Relena and Silfer? She knew that he had been trying to kill her but Sang and Relena always interrupted at the last minute. The King frowned, things were getting out of hand and not going as planned. “Time to end this. Forces of the winds…ground all that flies,” chanted the King. Soon Mai and Sang crashed to the ground close to Relena that was now shaking off her bad landing. Both were confused as their dragons attempted to fly but could not. Brom ran up to them, “The spell he casted stops the wind. Extremely powerful and out of your league. No wind, no flight. Stronger and older dragons can fly without the wind but it not easy at all.” Relena jumped out of Silfer’s saddle and walked up to Brom, “That means he will soon have to land right. Look like the battle is on the ground now.”

The King’s dragon stained to keep up in the air as it landed. It large wing span was able to generate some wind but it wasn’t enough in it tired state. The King dismounted and looked around at the battle field. The Varden was amazingly keeping up with his army, but his army was just a bunch of stupid followers. Replaceable pones in his opinion.

All three dragon riders and Brom head jerked up as a loud chant began to fill the sun seting clouds. Sang looked over to Brom, “What is going on!?” The wind suddenly picked up making it hard to move and sending sand all over. Brom raised an arm to cover his face, “He is chanting. I have never heard of this one before. If it is what I think it is, then there a problem.” Mai and Relena spoke aloud, “Problem?” Brom nodded as the dragons moved in front of them to block the wind as best as they could, “New spells can be made but usually the makers dies to make them useable for others. I know all of the spells, this one I don’t. He must of have made a new one. He is extremely confident. If this one works, we are in trouble but there is a really good chance it can back fire.” Relena smiled, “Praying and hoping, because I don’t think anyone is up for round two.”

The King stood on a ridge, chanting aloud. The clouds began to turn and swirl above him as a black mist began to filter out from his hands. Slowly one by one his men began to fall as the mist hit them, only a drain skinned skeleton remained. Soon none of his army, dragon rider, human, or monster alike remained. The black mist began to fall in on itself, taking shape of a very large serpent creature. The King smiled as he looked down at the Varden forces, “I present to you the devils pet, Evrae.” The serpent roared shaking the sand dunes. The King laughed out loud, “Time to do die.” “Yes, time to die,” repeated Evrae as it turned to the King. The King flinched away as the Serpent exploded back into mist and engulfed him.

All three dragon riders looked at Brom for an explanation. Brom shook his head a bit confused himself, “It appears the spell worked but acquired a life of its own. It is attacking the King.” The dragon riders did a quick glance between themselves before hollering out, “Go Evrae!”
*^*^*^*

The spell unknown and the reasons for the spell backfiring were mystery. Either way the King had fallen and vanished before the remaining Varden’s eyes. His army and Darsa and Selena were gone, the remains were not found however. Believed to be destroyed with the King’s last attempt at victory. Twelve years would past while the world waited and remained cautious about his sudden disappearance. Many believed he was around, lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect moment to claim victory. As the years passed, the Varden ranks began to lesson until it was more than a small social club that met a few days out of the week. The King had not appeared and the people began to believe him to be gone.

Relena had been the first to leave the Varden three years after the King vanished. A wound, inflict during the crash in the Hadarack Desert, just about her heart cavity became badly infected. While the infection was dealt with and removed the damage was still too extreme. Relena knew that Silfer was just slow ticking bomb and wouldn’t last for many years afterwards. Knowing this she left the Varden to spend the remaining time with Silfer until she passed away. Another year or two pasted on before Sang and Mai had decided to leave. They promise Relena and Brom that they would stay and be the foundation for the Varden as long as it last but it was obvious that five years later, the Varden was fading away. Like Relena they faded away into the wood work. Brom remained the full twelve years before heading out himself. The remaining Varden look down their noses at him, but they were no longer the resistance that once fought the greatest evil ever born.

Brom threw a saddle bag on his horse, tying it to the saddle, “The Varden I used to leader is no more. The people have moved on. You don’t need me to run this social club.” The men around him mumble to themselves. One came up, “What if the King is still around?!” Brom chuckled. Twelve years and not so much of a mention of the King came up, in the human’s worlds or the world of Magic. He tightened the saddle straps holding the saddle to the horse, “The Varden will always be the good’s stronghold and perhaps the last stand for good once again, but it is doing no good now. It isn’t needed and the name of it now bring dread, making people believe there is a possibly for the evil to return. This group isn’t a resistance; it is club for rich men to show off now. None of you are originals, you all hid during the war.” Brom pulled himself into the saddle, “The Varden will rise again when and if it is needed. Though right now, my time is better put somewhere else. The Varden remained alive long to help the people get back on their feet. Like it or not, it is time to move on.”

A little less than five hundred years would past after the dwarves reclaimed Beor Mountains. It would be a hundreds year until the Du Weldenvarden Forest would finally stop burning and begin growing back. Helgrind would be rebuilt exactly as it was and would remain a prison as before. Though now gardens and more livable conditions were made for the prison. Dras Leona would nearly triple in size, becoming the most densely population settlement. The Hadarack Desert would take three hundreds to become travelable by the average person. Doing so, Bull ridge would turn into an outpost, a large town on the edge of the desert for travelers.

The King had run through the lands and destroyed all the villages, towns, and cities, force its inhabitant to choice sides. During this time only a few would be rebuilt and lived in once again. The settlements Carvahall, Yazuac, Kuasta, Hedarth, Teirm, Aberon, and Osilon were ones rebuilt. Carvahall remained small; a small village nestled on the edge of the Spire Mountains. The other settlements were expanded and advanced, made to hold larger populations as the people grew.

The population had nearly triple in size during the five hundred years that passed by in peace and happiness, to replace all that were lost. Technology had grown moving people out of straw huts and stone buildings in to wood house. Much of the old castles and ways remained but a new, modern era was being incorporated. Medicine had advance as well as farming. Who knew a bent piece of metal called a plow could be so useful.

Now a full five hundred years had passed. The Varden, the dragon riders, the dwarves, the elves, the king, and the magic were all forgotten. Lost in the pasted. Only a few still remember and keep them all alive through stories. What was left, if any, of the old world of magic and mystery worked in the shadows and remained away from population that would now fear them.
