I feel your pain.
I spent about 200-250€ on books the first half year (I guess that's a semester) and about 200€ the next. Last autumn it was cheaper, about 150€ and so far I've only bought an English book and two Spanish books = 90€. I might need some more later on this spring when more courses start.

Intertubes, man. There's half.com and Amazon, those are great if you want/need to OWN a book. Then there's Chegg if you're cool with renting. Me, I rented a book that cost 150 bucks at my college bookstore there for 52 plus shipping. Just go to your bookstore, copy down the ISBNs, and then look 'em up online. 3nodding Intertubes. cool

Hmn, I suppose I did miss out on that. sweatdrop Even so, nothing of great import happens in the first week. Coulda had the orders rush-delivered. That'd STILL be cheaper than getting raped by your friendly campus bookstore.

I don't need to rent/buy books, instead I'm going to spend $300 on a MicroKorg, once I get my taxes back.

I can't get stuff off of Amazon, you know how long the shipping takes? Our teachers usually want us to have our books ready for the next lesson that is less than a week away. And I doubt if they have the books I need here in FINLAND. It's great that you listed all the sites that can be used in the US, they help me... not at all.
Anyway, there's this gigantic bookstore that sells these books for expensive prices, then we have our school bookstore that has a limited amount of books/used books for cheaper prices. We usually go check that out. And then there's bookplus.fi/com whatever, where you can order books in a group and get them for cheaper prices. It takes ages to deliver though, so not that good. Or then you can try to find the book in our school library and copy all the pages for 6-10€. Time consuming, but it works if it's not the whole book you need to copy. Like last autumn we copied our Swedish book, because it was only 80 pages out of like 300 pages of that specific book.

You know... studying computer engineering is soooo much cheaper. No need to buy any books. Everything you need is up for grabs on the internet. Or is too new to even be in textbooks.
But then... you MUST have a computer...

My suggestions were directed at Mega, of course. And Kas brings up a good point--more subjects other than IT need to start freeing themselves of textbooks.
