Chapter 1
The dark air had settled in around her like freezing tendrils that wrapped around her legs. She watched as her breath swirled up into the air before her. The winter months had only just begun and she was already chilled to the bone. The quiet around her was piercing, she was used to being alone but this silence was draining.
Her hooves left deep impressions into the snow as she walked over the darkened country side. She couldn’t remember much of her life at all. She knew that she had suffered some sort of accident which left her whole body aching and bloodied for days. She had awoken beside a burnt out fireplace with no one around to claim her. She wasn’t just lost, she was very much alone.
She stopped, her bright blonde curls barely catching the moonlight. Her body was pale in the moonlight and shimmered like an opal under a soft light. Her white fur also caught the moon in a way that made her stand out. As soon as she heard it, her heart was racing. Her eyes darted back and forth for the source of the sound. It had sounded like a brief cough, but not like any small creature’s noise. No, she assured herself that this was a much bigger animal.
Then from somewhere to her left she caught a glimpse of a large shadow stepping out from the wood line. She knew immediately that he was well aware of her presence. She took a few steps back, but he immediately took many more steps forward. The pale horn piercing up from her head lowered down in a defensive manner.
She saw now, that the other but darker unitaur did the same. His eyes flickered a bright yellow, his black body, copper skin and black hair every piece of him screamed danger. He made a wide circle around her, his hooves leaving marks three times larger than her own.
She knew that if she ran, she might out run him, but would he be able to catch up? She decided to allow him to approach, despite the growing fear welling in her throat.
