Don't feel bad Miss Chloie. I'm a mess too. I'm uber clumsy and even when I try to eat neatly I wind up dropping something or having things hanging out of my mouth. *sigh* Fancy restaurants make me feel awkward. I can't even imagine trying to adapt to Japanese etiquette!

don't let them know your american xD only the teens think its cool to be american, and even then many dont like american ways. just say youre engrish. when it comes down to it, the japanese, or any oriental race, will not like laid backness. they needa know your making work. so when you see a hot japanese person on the street, dont be likee "heeeeeeey sexy" x_x it barely works here in america but you know, you learn as you try...
