"That would be a good thing for anyone, I think, to get minerals," she replied, looking up as he did to see the rocks and waterfalls.
Paddling forward until she was right underneath the small falls, she dove under and braced her back paws on the riverbed. A small smile forming on her face as she faced the tumultous water above her she sprang up at it, pumping her body and her tail behind her in a fluidly undulating motion to give her more speed. The water slid past her and her eyes watched almost in slow motion as she broke the surface, diving into the air from under the falls and reaching with her front paws to lightly touch the water rushing past her in mid air.
Then time seemed to catch up with her and she was diving back into the water at the top of the falls, slipping underneath a thin sheet of water as she landed on a rock and propelled herself forward again, gliding over the rocks and up the small falls that decided to try getting in her way until she found a clear length of water to tread in until she could see if Celandine had kept up with her. She panted a little as she called out semi-cheerily, "Why would I have to leave the water to get up here?"

Celandine watched as Amadahy dove into the water, figuring perhaps she was just getting herself good and moist for the short trip out of the water. He smiled as he saw her form cutting through the water so cleanly and gracefully, the way she almost blended in with the water and distorted the light to cast pretty patterns on her skin.
The his jaw dropped open as he saw her take a strong leap and actually swim right up the waterfall itself! He had heard of fish that jumped over waterfalls to get to where they needed to be, but he didn't think aynone had the strength to actually swim up one! Amadahy must be one strong namir!
He laughed happily and scrambled up the rocky incline to meet his friend up at the top of the waterfall. "That was really great! Now you won't have to get out at all! But I think we're getting closer now; the water seems a little warmer, and the mountains look a lot closer."

Amadahy watched him climb until he had joined her atop the falls. She was practically beaming at her own feat, and the amazed look on his face was only making her feel more accomplished. It was good to feel talented unstead of broken.
"It is getting warmer," she murmured, wondering if maybe that was another reason she was feeling so elated. It sort of made her feel guilty to act so happy in front of Celandine, when she knew that as soon as she left the warm water she'd become cold and uncaring; he didn't seem to deserve that kind of treatment.

Elated himself to see Amadahy looking so happy, Celandine all but bounded off as he turned to continue following the river. "Yep! Just a little further; I know it! Then you can relax in the warm water, and maybe I could even......join you for a little bit? I promise I'll get out again if I start feeling bad."
He looked up and smiled at the mountains; somewhere in that massive hunk of rock was a nice hot spring that would provide his wonderful lady friend with the water she needed, and he would find it if he had to bring the whole thing down.

Caught up in the excitement of it all, she replied before her thoughts could stop her, "I'd be delighted if you'd join me for a dip." She bit her tongue nearly the second the words had left her lips, feeling even worse for having now probably gotten his hopes up.
It wasn't as if she didn't want to be happy and outgoing all of the time. She really did, it was just that she knew it wouldn't last. Or did she? If she couldn't hold onto those feelings herself, then how did she know they were really hers? She was trapped at the whim of the water.
But if that was so then did it really matter that much? Right now she was happy, shouldn't she enjoy it while she could? And shouldn't she let Celandine enjoy it while he could, too? Buoyed by the certainty that the water was indeed heating up, she dove smoothly through the water to keep up with Celandine.

"Really?" Celandine beamed as he walked rapidly alongside the water that Amadahy was swimming in. "Then I'm gonna try real hard to at least learn to paddle or something. Who knows; maybe in time I can grow to like the water. Then you could have someone to go swimming with!"
He cried out when he saw the wall of a mountain just ahead, with a dark opening in the side where the water was flowing from. It might have just been his hasty excitement, but he fancied he could see steam escaping from the hole; the promise of a warmer inside. "Look; it's the cave! And I bet it's gonna be so warm in there!"
