If there was one season he didn't like, it was winter. Dakota clung to himself in a hug as he trudged up the worn stone path to the Elderspark shop. All the while he was cursing the wind that chilled him to the bone despite his fur and the hill that he was being forced to walk up. He listened to the 'clip-clops' of his own hooves beneath as he went but would occasionally grumble something to himself, his piercing blue eyes darkened by the scowl on his brows. He regretted having ever left his human's living place and thus giving up his warm, cozy spot on the couch she owned. But for one thing, he needed a bit of peace and quiet. With four other inhabitants the house got a bit out of control sometimes.

And he was also looking for someone to entertain him. It had been far too long since the last time he'd had someone to show off to, and even longer since he'd met a pretty female. Halia, his housemate, hardly counted as feminine. She was more of a sister then anything to boot. As the shop entered his line of site, he hoped that would all change. His human had told him that many other palas and other such marvels sometimes hung around the place too but he saw no one on the outside. 'Probably too bloody cold for anyone,' He sighed, cringing slightly as his left hoof strayed from the stone and hit soggy earth. It hadn't snowed in two days so there wasn't any left by then.

But the sky was a rather ominous shade of grey which would either mean rain or snow. Possibly hail. Dakota sighed pitifully at the thought, putting his hands on his hips. It was then did the great tree which looped around the shop from the backside catch his attention. Turning towards it he cocked an eyebrow, a curious twinkle in his eyes. He loved heights and was pretty good when it came to scaling things. He strayed off the path farther and farther to look closer at the mystical tree. Its canopy was awfully big and foreboding but that didn't stop him from nearing the edge of the tree and hopping onto its thick, curvy trunk. He carefully climbed it a bit, until he was a good three feet above the patch of overgrown grass in the front of Elderspark.

The cold was forgotten at this point as he carefully began to stroll around his little perch so 'high' above the ground. His right hand flew out in front of him for a dramatic effect as he spoke, "Ha ha, and the crowd goes wild as Dakota, the greatest acrobat ever, takes the stage." He ran a hand through his bangs to clear them from his eyes. The overgrown grass and weeds below would be the perfect sort of landing to catch his fall. Dakota loved pulling stunts, even for invisible crowds, despite how stupid they may have been. Today was no different, even if it was a bit cold. There was always time to go inside and be bored later anyway.

Minuet was about as fond of winter as she was of leg cramps. That was to say, not very. With a sigh, she stepped as daintily along the pathway as she could possibly manage. Not only were her feet her most precious 'possessions', she simply couldn't stand the feeling of that horribly yucky half snow, half water concoction that covered most of the ground. She wrinkled her nose as she watched a droplet of gray-brown grossness fling it's way onto the left-foot bow that sat just above her hoof. "Ugh, honestly" she muttered, balancing on one tiny hoof to shake the other clean. "I cannot wait for winter to leave... It's like a rude, uninvited guest that just settles in without even bother to ask if it can stay."

Hopping a bit as she set her foot down, green eyes wide and intent on the path in front of her, she regained her walking rhythm easily. There was constantly music spinning itself in her head, bits and pieces of tunes she had heard mixing with notes that she strung together herself into some sort of dancer's Frankenstein music. The heart charm that dangled from her ever-present fan made a pleasant clinking noise, the small chain links were like tiny cymbals being clapped together at random that set the erratic beat and time for her tune, and soon she was humming as she walked, hips swaying and arms extended to help with the occasional twirls she indulged in.

As she bounced and shimmied along the winter road, she heard an unfamiliar 'clink, clack, clink clink' in the pocket of her dress. 'Hold on now, this isn't a beat I recognize...' Curious fingers dipped into her pocket, and she withdrew a necklace of lavender beads, a fanned shell serving as the pendent. "Oh~" she exclaimed in something of a sing-song voice. "That's right, Dakota gave this to me. Well, it's only right that I return it..." It went against her nature to give anything that caught her fancy, but she could use it as an effective excuse to see him again, which was certainly not a bad thing. He had seemed polite enough, and she could forgive his ignorance of dancing, as he had been kind enough to lend her the beads she had so admired during their first meeting.

Setting off once more, she danced around the icy-cold puddles and muddied clumps of once-white snow. Hopefully she would be able to find the shell-decorated Pala. He would certainly be easy to pick out in a crowd, with that bright hair of his. The best place to look for him, she was sure, would be at the shop. That was where most Pala spent their time, and if she didn't find him there, perhaps she could find someone who did know where she could find him. They had to finish the dancing lessons after all, didn't they? Coming upon the main building, she laughed happily. "What good luck!" she called out as she drew close enough to be within ear shot. "And here I was just thinking I was going to have to look for you, Dakota."

Dakota cracked his small knuckles, each one making a minute popping sound as he stretched his bones out a bit. Wiggling each finger around for a few minutes after wards he looked down again to the grass below. It was brown and long dead, drizzled with a thin film of melting snow that made him grimace a bit. Now that he had thought this cunning plan through a bit, it didn't seem like such a good idea. The height didn't affect him and the thought of getting wet and dirty didn't exactly daunt him either: it was the prospect of getting a bath afterwards that made him stop and think. Much like a child, the black-and-white pala loathed bathes. That's not to say he didn't keep himself groomed { most of the time } he just really hated the feeling of wet fur.

With a sigh he stepped back, hands placed on his hips as he did so. His eyes reflected his clear disappointment with the situation as he gave his small wings a twitch of irritation. But nothing could be done. Besides, what if he happened upon a cute girl and was covered in filth? They really didn't seem to like that. He spun around on his hooves, the smooth bark of the tree allowing him to do such a maneuver. The various trinkets on his body bounced against him with every step as he began to ascend his perch with a rather sulky look, which was aimed down at his hooves. However, a silky voice brought him from his thoughts and his head instantly snapped up. Low and behold there stood a familiar sight - none other then Minuet. The name was a sweet caress on his thoughts as his face lit up almost immediately in a grin of recognition.

Instantly he began to bound towards her, careful to carefully skirt around every ugly puddle in his way. "So we meet again, Minuet~!" He called out, his grin turning a bit silly. He knew it was such a cliche thing to say but it humored him none the less. He was about two feet away from her when his hoof hit a patch of ice which sent him sprawling forwards at her feet, his face being planted in the dirt as he hit the ground. With a grumble he quickly lifted himself off the ground, a glare on his face at his horrid luck. 'REAL smooth,' He scolded himself mentally, rising to his feet in a sheepish sort of way. His head had been a mere inches from a nasty mud puddle...that would've been just dandy if he'd landed in it. He took a moment to wipe a smudge of dirt off his pink nose.

"Ahem. As I was saying, it's been a while!" It had in fact been a few days since she'd given him his little dancing lesson, but it seemed like so much longer. "Still taking care of that necklace I gave you?" He offered her a smooth smile, and a wink.
