I know there's already a thread about the previous books in the series, but no one has posted in it since July (months before this book came out), so I thought maybe a new thread was in order.
Who has read it Brisingr by Paolini? What did you think?

Okay, I'll start! smile
I'm so glad that Brom turned out to Eragon's dad! biggrin I never suspected that. That memory Saphira showed him had me tearing up.
I loved Saphira's perspective! exclaim It showed that she's so powerful and wise that she doesn't need to give mundane titles to every tiny specific thing the way that humans do. When she unintentionally went into Roran's mind when he was busy with Katrina I couldn't stop laughing for several minutes. rofl
I was glad that we finally got to know Katrina better. I was curious about the girl he had done so much to save. I worried that she'd disappoint me, but she didn't. whee I didn't exactly find her interesting, but she has the same strong loyalty for Roran that he has for her.
I love the way Paolini describes battle scenes. The emotions and actions are so graphic that I almost feel like I'm there. The one where Roran managed to save several of his men and kill almost 200 enemy soldiers, and the one where Saphira ripped the roof off of the building, were very exciting!
I saw Oromis' death coming. The mentors almost always die in fantasy books to force the heroes to learn to stand on their own, which was why I saw Brom's coming as well. Even so, Brom's death made cry. Soon after Brom's death, Oromis became Eragon's mentor, and even though I know it was necessary for the plot to add a new teacher because Eragon had more to learn, it still pissed me off to have Brom "replaced." I was almost loking forward Oromis' inevitable demise. Sorry Oromis fans; I know its cruel, but that's how I feel. Although, I did feel sorry for Glaedr. sad
I've never liked Arya. She's so cold and distant, and Eragon deserves better. In this book, though, she was at least tolerable. Hopefully, by the next and final book I'll actually like her so that when she and Eragon officially get together it won't annoy me too much.
The sword Brisingr and the forging of it were brilliant! smile
I've been trying to figure out what the tree took from Eragon. What would cause pain in his stomach that he wouldn't miss right away if he got removed?

Minerva the Bookwyrm I've been trying to figure out what the tree took from Eragon. What would cause pain in his stomach that he wouldn't miss right away if he got removed? I know it's on the other side of the body, but maybe his appendix?

I loved this book! This series is my ultimate favorite! heart I was so happy when I got to go the the midnight release, but it wasn't much at the local bookstore.
I have to disagree with you Minerva. I really like Arya, but I love the elves in any truly good fantasy book, so that may not be much coming from me. I disagree with you saying Eragon deserves better. Who is out there for him that is better than daughter of an elven queen? Can you tell me?
Anyways, Arya is cool. The very fact that she is distant gives her an aluring personality. She is so knowledgable, and it shows in the very way she carries herself.
Paolini is an amazing author. He is my favorite! heart
