Speaking as an LDS mother of 5 children who has tried to read all the books that any of my children under 17 read - I found the 4 books of the Twilight series very well written and books that I have not had problems with my 17 year old son reading. I am critical of books that are too suggestive or violent and found these areas well written and contained in a very mild way. I understand that because the author (who is a graduate of BYU) would not permit the movie to alter significantly in these 2 areas that the movie was given a very low budget because Hollywood thought that it would not be very popular without more graphic violence and sexually explicit scenes. I cheered when I heard how well it did and that the budget for the special effects in the upcoming movie was increased since it did so well. If there are books you would like to run by me - I will try to let you know if I have read them and where I would rate them. I know our public library librarians have lists of books and have been able to refer me to many that I have enjoyed even after telling them that I wanted books with no graphic violence or highly stimulating scenes or themes. They even but them in categories to help me further select my material. I have read Terry Brooks, David and Leigh Eddings, Pride and Prejudice (and the Fitzwilliam Darcy Gentleman Trilogy) because of their suggestions and found them enjoyable and well written. I hope this helped.

I'm not gonna lie, I kinda hated Twilight...all it is, is a vampire with anger issues that has to save this girl who gets into trouble every two seconds because of that vampire with anger issues...

if you want a good book, read Wheel of Time, Robert Jordan died, but the series is being completed by Bro. Sanderson...

One of the best books I have read in a long time is called Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer (I think) Anyway, its by the same guy that wrote the Artemis Foul Series . . .It was spectacular!

Hmmmm, I'm not sure but I don't think I could get through that book. Tried two times. Artemis Foul though's great!
Yeah, Brandon Sanderson's books are great. Alcatraz made me laugh the whole time, and his mistborn series is good too, just a lot more intense. Personally I recommend any of patricia C. Wreede's books. It's slightly girl power, but mostly it's common sense, magic, a little romance and lots of adventure.
hmm... maybe we should have someone where make a site for us to recommend books. I've been finding more and more good books and manga out there lately but forget them after reading them once. Just a thought.

It depends a lot on what your tastes are. Do you like sci-fi? That's where 99% of the books I read come from, so all my suggestions are sci-fi.

I do highly recommend Brandon Sanderson's books. The "Mistborn" trilogy is pretty good and "Elantris" is nifty.

I was very excited by what I'd heard about it -- LDS author, no sex and such -- but I had to force myself to read "Twilight." The characters and the writing did not grab me at all -- but then I can't stand Romance books because of the way they're written, not just what's in them, so I guess I shouldn't be so surprised.

BTW, if you like vampire romance and want something not overly violent or suggestive, I recommend "The Silver Kiss."

What kind of books are you interested in?

BTW, I second Patricia C. Wrede's books.

For a historical bent you should try Orson Scott card's "Saints" (also known as "Woman of Destiny") and his "Women of Genesis" books.

Well I have one that is very good in my opinion. The Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks, such a good book, I recommend you really it.

I read a ton! One series I would suggest is the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series . This are aimed towards middle school kids, but if you are into Greek mythology then they're fantastic. If you aren't, then their still dang funny! rofl For a more spiritual read, try the The Great and the Terrible series (first book: "The Brothers") This book follows a family through the premortal exsistence and then into the Last Days. It's fiction (obviously) and talks a lot about terrorist attacks (in fact that's the entire conflict of the 2nd-5th books). It also gives a rather facinating image of what Satan's veiw is. Some of the chapters are rather gloomy, because they are written from the perspective of a character who was one of the 1/3 of the host of heaven who left alongside Lucifer. Both series' are amazing, and well worth reading.

Heh, read lightning theif just yesterday and loved it! 9 hours straight reading would do that. it kinda felt like a cross between alcatraz by Sanderson and Artemis Fowl by Colfer, which made it better. Totally up my ally.

Oh just remembered. Millennium File is another good short book. Dunno who wrote it, read it in 8th grade. But it's two LDS scientists who bring back the 10 tribes in a very strange way.

Have you tried "Shelfari" for book recommendations?

There's also "Good Reads." Works better if you have some friends on there so you can read the opinions of people whose taste you already know, but it can be quite helpful.
