Freedom the wolf

Oooh, I've always wanted to play a tabletop miniatures game, but there's no way I could afford it without giving up my video game addiction.
sweatdrop Plus, I'd have to go out and find people to play against, and I know some people who've played Warhammer 40k before, but they've all renounced it due to the costs and commitments of building up armies and playing in tournaments. I know there's a comic shop nearby that sells W40K units and holds tournaments, but I think they only hold hardcore tournaments one at a time and that's it.
Try warmachine its a mix of steampunk and magic
or
Hordes are primitive armies with magic and magical beast
both can be used against each other
Like I said, I'd love to play a game like that, but I simply don't have the funds or the means to do so.
I looked up WarMachine figurines (at www.thewarstore.com), and even the basic infantry units are in the $5 to $10 each range, with the fancier units hitting the $30 to $40 range. Now, I'm used to Collectible Card Games, where $15 gets you a whole deck or maybe $20 for a starter deck, $2 to $5 gets you a booster of 10-15 cards, and the rarer individual cards (the ones that are practical) are never much more than $5 or $10 apiece. Therefore you can get a good deck going for not much more than $40 or $50 even if you're just a beginner mixing and matching some preset decks.
I don't know how many units you'd need to play a basic game of WarMachine, but it looks like it'd still cost about $100 just to get started -- assuming you buy about 10 basic units and 2 advanced units. And something tells me you'll need more than 12 units to play a whole game.
If I had the disposable income and lots of people to play with, I'd be all over this in a heartbeat, but alas...
