Quote:
Keylime eyes watched from a distance, their owner's body shrouded amongst the darkness of the ash, fallen logs covering fur with raven shadows. But this lone soul needed not the cover of shadows, for his pelt was as dark as hell. An equally ebonite nose drew in the familiar scent of his kin. Wolves were a rare sepcies amongst these lands since the molten rock flowed from this land. But before that horrific event these woods had been teeming with life. This mountain was Eden, some higher being protecting the pack that once resided here with all his might....or so the previous pack had thought.

The pack had been large, and was ruled over by the two alphas who had founded this area. Yet all the wolves in this group had one common appearence, they were all varying shades of black with a single white marking on their chest. Their bodies were huge, their jaws massive, their bulk over powering, for that was the subspecies they were. Isolated from all others they had developed as such. Black was the palt of choice, hiding their forms in the shadows, their massive bodies able to tackle the large prey that resided. They were the perfect race but now...only three remained.

The firey rock had consumed all in it's path, trees and wolves alike. Nothing remained but the twisted and scorched bodies of the tallest redwoods. Life would go on, grass would regrow, and the herds would move back. But this land was vital to the three wolves' survival. The small band consisted of two mates, a strong, proud male, his petite mate and their newborn heir. The couple had been the typical gammas in their old pack, feircly loyal to their alphas. But now their daughter was their only hope to regain the once proud gene line. Her father carried a white mark the shape of a necklance, her mother a teardrop shape, and now their daughter has a four point star upon her chest, a star that shone a new light.

But now intruders were upon their sacred lands, a large pack, to be precise. And now, the male could do nothing but sit and glare and hope the pack would find no interest in these barren lands and leave.

Guaf noted the sound Sekani made with some skepticism, but he could not afford to disregard even so small an amount of approval. His father hadn't noticed and his mother was looking for that damn stupid sister of his again; why did she bother?

As they were prone to doing so, his eyes searched out his father's fearsome figure. Reicher had a faraway look about him, in the way his stood and held his head. He was not in this world. Guaf stared at him, a small seed of envy growing within him. He watched as the alpha moved off in the direction of the lake. For a moment his mind was blank. Then he followed. Unsure his father would approve of him followin, disliking Guaf as he did, the teen stayed a ways behind and hidden partly be the curve of the ascending mound. The dark mud on his fur helped his quiet hunt.

Fairfax looked over the dark, crusty, baren ground that lay ahead of him. What seemed to make the other wolves in the pack fidget with discomfort was a comfort to Fairfax. The dead, burned landscape could provide something for him that the woods never could: a clear view. There was no place, or very few places, for a beast to hide unseen.

No, it was not the packlands that bothered Fair. So what was it? He had an inch, a persistant nagging, eating at him, that he could not relieve. His eyes wandered the packmates, looking for a flaw. There were plenty of flaws; Fairfax hardly liked the disloyalty he could see and hear brewing among the members. But it was nothing more than it had been and Reicher had told him to disregard it. So it was not that. But still, something hung in him.. wrong. He noticed the one, seperate wolf walking the borders of their little encampment, taking mental notes. Fair's attention sharpened, watching the wolf. He seemed almost... fidgety. Whatever it was, Fair couldn't quite put a hair on it, which made him all the more nervous.

Standing up, he looked around for his alpha. He wanted to move closer to him, just to know he was alright and guarded. Fair may not have been the most apt guard but it was for his own peace of mind. Not being able to find his alpha at first, he took a few involuntary steps forward, lettin gout a low whine. But a while strip of fur moved up the slope and caught the green wolf's attention. Reicher was leaving for somewhere. Fair glanced around at the other inanimate pack wolves. Should he follow? Could he follow? His red leg shook in a muscle spasm. Then he was off, green coat slinking after it's Master.

Some things merely had to be done. They were necessary, like breathing, eating, and sleeping. Reicher knew that this one was one of those things. And he was more then happy to do it. Slinking along the landscape, following the scent of wolf with his nose pressed to the ground one could hear the tapping of his claws against the hard earth. Bone pierced ears were tipped up to the air, listening for all and any sounds. Sounds that didn't belong to his pink little dissapointment or his faithful slave, that was. He barely even noticed them. Instead, he continued.

Soft paws met with the hard earth as he paced himself, the skull necklace around his neck wavering around his neck with every step. His mind was churning thoughts at an incomprehensible pace, taking over all the possibilites and things he could do and say. Thinking about who he was tracking, he knew it was atleast 2 wolves. Reicher could also smell a males scent.. Perhaps they knew he was coming? Watching him the entire time? Watching him from the shadows like a scoundrel and a filthy disgusting fiend? But no! He was in control here.

Within moments he made his way along the baren lands. He saw what he had been looking for. A cave at the base of the volcano, a hiding place for those scum who still remained in the beautiful land he was sculpting with such pride. His eyes focused on one figure. A male. A large adult male, larger then he, but not as smart. For Reicher was a god among wolves.

"Fair is foul, and foul is fair:
Hover through the fog and filthy air."

The wolf called this line old, recalling it from somewhere deep in his memory. He stood not 10 yards away from this other male, but was not intimidated in the least. Reicher stood, his head held high and his pupiless eyes focused on him. And his son and his slave were the least of worries in his mind.

And here two gods stood face to face, one perfect species in front of the other. Yet only one could prevail...which would it be? The ebonite male was malnourished, weakened from the disaster that had been wrought upon his dearly beloved pack. Yet noble head remained high, exotic visionaries resembling the pure ore of malachite. His stature spoke of his past. Legs were slender and elongeted, perfect for dashing and weaving between the timbers of the vally. His body was of adequite weight, not too broad yet not too light, unlike the heavy Reicher. He regarded Reicher with an air of omnipotency, his countenance barren of anything fearful or lament.

His kind had survived for so long in this facade, they had been the ruling subspecies for many decades and the thought that an outsider would move in was an incredulous thought. This outlandish figure was odd to him, his pelt covered in white! Tainted by the very frigid curse that resembled hell. Everyone knew that black was to be had upon one's coat with a single indentifying mark- a distinguished mark upon one's chest that would single you out from the rest. And his eyes....his eyes were devoid off all pupils, let alone the green color that clearly marked over of his own. The opposing male's body was adorned in ornaments, some even piercing through his ears!

The gamma stood in front of a cavernous den where his mate and daughter resided, as too prove his lack of infedelities. The white male spoke in a different tongue and the ebonite wolf meerely responded, his voice thick with accent.

"Ra dyma omaujshli kjausoja, iyo thull mys jatepa haja. Suemsap, uja iyo. "
("Be gone unearthly creature, you shall not reside here. Tainted, are you. ")

This male did not cower. These were his pack lands, filled with generations of knowledge passed down to him. He would defend it, as well as himself and the last of his kind.

Reicher did not need to see fear on the males face to do what he was going to do. The wolf was a brilliant strategist, but more brilliant in that then he was in actual physical combat or in social skills. And so he knew just what to do. The wolf leaned back though he stood straight, standing with a cocky air about him. Reicher knew he was god, he knew he was lord of the battlefield and thankfully he felt no guilt about doing what he was doing.

His pupiless eyes cast behind the other into the cave, focusing on the pup and the wolves mate inside. Glancing back up to the male, then down to the pup, his purple tongue ran across his chops and a heinous grin covered his maw. Reicher then let loose a hyena like cackle, raising his head to howl out in laughter. Oh, yes, he would have fun, merry merry fun! This would be absolutely delightful, adding another trophy to his cabinet, another pawn to his board, another piece to his collection.

The opposing god stood his ground, merely mocking the other and coaxing him into making the first attack. For there would be a battle of the giants, and all others would merely be in their shadows, the collasal beasts were to war.

Reicher's pink spawn was inching along, begging to get closer to the scene. He had heard his father's voice, but couldn't quite see him from where he was hidden. What had he said? Something about foul air?

Yet it wasn't only his father Guaf watched. He saw Fairfax slinking along behind. The green wolf was much closer than Guaf, nearly breathing down the alpha's neck but still hidden. The alpha's son sneered, not liking his father's muttly slave; How dare he presume to follow! Guaf's desire to be the sole whitness to his father's preceedings drove his anger bodily toward Fair, until he stood beside him. Risking a snap of his jaws at the other wolf, the teen attempted to cow him into retreating.

"YOU do not belong here. Leave." He whispered in an authoritative -and more than a little annoyed- tone. He could see his father over the rise... and.. another wolf? But where...?

Fairfax watched his paws and his master, doing his best to keep silence. It was not from his Master, he did; he knew he could never hide from the All Seeing One. But Fair was a cautious wolf, and it was apparent that this journey was one of importance his his alpha. He would take care not to ruin it by being clumsy.

Observant as he was, he had not missed the lone pink pup-turned-teen trailing after. They seemed to form some sort of obsurb parade: white wolf to green wolf to pink wolf, slink up the slope. It mattered not at all to Fair. His thoughts were on his alpha.

That was, until Guaf decided to take his father's place in making commands. The heir, for being quite a bit younger than the omega, was not too much smaller than him. In length, Fair had him won. In general size, Guaf was much more well fed and well proportioned: he looked somewhat more like a wolf than Fair's haggard bones. Fair had to admit intimidation, dropping his eyes. However, he would not back down for anyone sake but his Master's.

"Master knows I am following." It was explantion enough to Fair. Quieter, he added, "It's not for you to give me orders." The green wolf raised his head, shivering slighly, and stared straight ahead at where his master stood.

Guaf was infurriated. A slave talking down to him. How DARE he?! He wouldn't even be alive if it weren't for his father's good graces. However, this was hardly the time to set him straight. If they continued, they might catch his father's notice, and not the kind Guaf was looking for.

Growling softly, he glared down at the green wolf and stalked in a different direction, to take the view from a different place. As of yet, he didn't know exactly what he was doing there.

Seeing Reicher's son had reminded Fairfax about the other pups. He had left without thinking of their protection or well being. Sure, they weren't really pups anymore, but they were still young, still weaker than the other pack members. Despite what his master had said, to not worry about the lack of allegiance of the pack member, it worried Fair. He didn't trust them and he didn't trust them with his master's offspring.

Still, he was caught between leaving his alpha or protecting his offspring. Well, the pink teen was here. Honestly, there was ntohing he could do here anyway, if something broke out. His master could take care of himself, far better than he could ever do for him.

So, his thin frame twitching with uncertainty, he turned back and headed for the camp.
