Jabril took a deep breath, gathering all his tangential thoughts together, and then exhaled heavily.
"Yuir right." He ginned back at Nebilim. "I shouldnae worry so much about the experiment playing out. They'll be clever an' find a way. Or force one. They're yuir kits, after all."
This was the first time Jabril had used the word 'kits' to refer to the specimens. It was surprisingly painless now that it was over with.

"Of course," Nebilim purred, pressing one ear up to another egg, in a way that might almost be deemed affectionate were she also not tapping lightly on the shell, sounding for a slightly more soft spot to put a large needle through to sample the fluid within. "Fortunately, none of the others sounded particularly strong in the Fifth, so we shouldn't have any cannibalism on our hands. It would be a shame if they ceased to be before our observations were complete."
She ignored kits; they were what they were, worth as much as the amount of interest they could provide to her, and nothing more. Not yet, anyway. "Where are those needles you mentioned? I'd like to see what your science makes of the elemental anomalies."

For a moment, Nebilim looked uncomfortably like a greedy fox in a henhouse, testing the soundness of her egg before settling in for the feast. Jabril tried very hard not to think about his father.
"Give me half a moment, yeh?"
Jabril padded out of the room, and returned a few minutes later carrying a plastic bag of sterile syringes in his mouth.
A fellow could find the most interesting things in the HQ if he looked hard enough. Of course, Kitsusagi paws weren't as well-suited to the instruments of science as dexterous human hands, but that hadn't stopped others of his kind from using swords or mixing potions. With a bit of luck and double-jointedness, they somehow all made do.
"Ye can take th' samples, if ye've found any soft bits. Stay careful not t'put the needle in too far. All we want is yolk fluid. Get too deep, diggin' around in those things, an' yuir liable t'lobotomize one o' the wee ones on accident."
He tossed the bag towards his project coordinator.

Nebilim caught the vague discomfort in Jabril's manner as he left to get the instruments she'd requested, and rolled her eyes once he was out of sight. A bit of fatherly morality rearing its head? Oh, to be sure, she would protect their little brood - from others, at least. If anyone was to decide their life or death, it would be her, and she would defend that right with all her considerable ferocity.
She smoothed out her expression as Jabril re-entered and tossed her the bag; she caught it delicately in her own mouth. Lack of true opposable thumbs made things terribly inconvenient, really, but a clever mind could manage even under the worst circumstances. "I've no desire for pointless injury," she said, trying to make the words sound soothing - not that she cared that much, but a fretful assistant was more likely to make errors. "Be at ease on that score. Now..." Nebilim examined the egg she was closest to again. "Hm, yes. Once I've inserted it, if you'll use your mouth and draw the sample while I steady it..."

Jabril, for his part, wasn't deaf to the way Nebilim had qualified her statement. He didn't blame her. Not really. They'd come together out of love for research, not love of one another, and sometimes the only way to understand a control group was to crack open a few less fortunate specimens.
But if she wanted to waste valuable testing material by taking permenantly crippling measures, then Jabril was going to have to think of ways to shuffle the wee experiments of the way when she was feeling bored, and-
A leaden weight of dread settled in Jabril's stomach.
He was turning into his mother.
It really was a pity, the lengths some males would go to for their muses. Jabril was too far gone to be helped by now.
"Tha'll do."
The procedure was quick. Jabril tried not to think too hard about the way she smelled, when they stood in close proximity He didn't need to be near Nebilim to catch the scent of blood and chemicals. It was just nicer when she was there, was all.
"Now, I look a' these an' run some tests." He held four small vials of fluid up to the light. Some appeared to be slightly tinted. "D'ye study much about DNA, wi' yuir physics an' phonons?"

"They are related, I think," Nebilim said, sniffing at one of the other eggs. "Building blocks of life, though one my world never studied. You can't manipulate DNA with a thought." She smirked. That would be fascinating if you could, though. "I'll leave that aspect of study in your capable... paws."
She struck the Fifth tuning fork against this one again, then frowned slightly. "There is a depth to the resonance," she said, "listen. You wouldn't have noticed. I was having you listen for dissonance..."
((Nerpy's egg. XD I figure we need an IC reason for why it ends up with him yes?))

The sinking feeling grew worse, anchoring Jabril to the spot. He was articulate enough to understand what Nebilim was implying, and scientist enough to find the development utterly enthralling, but for once he couldn't fawn and laugh and clap his paws over an interesting genetic development.
These eggs were his experiments- his - and he wasn't even going to get to make notes on one of them. No measurements. No psychological tests. No cutting open corpses in the back yard. Something fascinating was about to be born into this world, with his greens and her grays, he wouldn't get to know anything about it
Jabril snarled and bared his teeth, barking out a curse like the animal he was.
Then he turned his attention back to the eggs.
"Alright. Alright. We'll- we'll ha' t'seperate them, then. We'll get m'brother. 'E's an engineer- 'e can cart it off an' give us field notes. I'll nae leave a unique genetic resource t'be eaten by 'is own sibs."
He set the fluid samples down on a side table, and set about fishing out the ingredients for a powerful flare.
"What about th' others? What d'ye 'ear?"
((Haisyn is proving hard to get in touch with, so we'll assume her egg is normal, yes? XD))
