Our DM is really awesome. We also managed to make him cry during a competition.

We had a DM and a Assistant DM
First two years they were all really good, had no problems with them, and they knew what they were doing.
Last two years, the Assistant DM was good, not experience, not professional, but he wasn't drama and had a nice personality for the most part. He tried, and he worked hard.
The Main DM she was un experienced as crap, could not do anything, she was no professional, she was drama, she was a wannabe popular girl, she made funny of the band, she bend the rules for herself and her friends, she did not work hard, and she had the worst personality. She was also jealous of the majorettes and such because she was too untalented to make the team, she took it out of them for it.
I think a good DM is someone who tries, they do not have to be good if they are willing to put in the work, not cause drama, and have a good personality.

My band is small, so we only have one DM. She is great, we talk a lot. She isn't very good. She got better as the season has gone on, but it was really bad for a while there. I know I'm only a sophomore, but everyone noticed how bad it was. She is great and good friends with my crush, who is first chair clarinet while she is second. I hope to be drum major, but I have to beat her to get the position. So I hope everything goes well and I do get the spot, because it seems like she doesn't like directing anymore.

For me, it was always 50-50. We had an amazing drum major. He was very articulate and cared for what he did. The other two were favorites of the band director and didn't give a s**t about what they were doing, so it was annoying. One of the ones who didn't care was an enemy of mine. We never got along, even when we started band when we were younger. Oh well.
