I have 2 oboes in my band. (Me & another girl)
Normally, it's the one part. But, if it splits, I kinda have to play first.
Though I like second...

I play first trumpet and I want it to stay that way! I cant stand to play second part, to low of notes and the part isnt as interesting. I like to play high notes and fast parts. Second trumpet just doesnt hold it for me.

Flute: I LOVE playing high notes, and my partner is still learning, so I get high notes. <3
Trombone: Low notes. Unfortuately, I got Trombone ONE in Jazz Band.. -_- [Don't tell my BD that I'm actually 3rd Trombone in Jazz. ninja I dun think he realized..yet..]
Tuba: No choice.

Second parts are the best. In trumpet, the third parts are almost all low notes and the first ones are insanely hard, so second is the best. Even though I'm a third trumpet, I still play the second parts because of the level of skill, regardless of playing for six months.

I don't like the oboe/bells parts. They're always so low. But I also don't like flute parts. Sometimes there are notes that aren't even on my fingering chart. I hate that. So I just deal with whatever part I get and sometimes I get lucky with high notes, but not too high. That's rare though.

I used to hate having to play second and third parts. It was like torture in eighth grade. But now, I am second clarinet because we are currently doing chairs according to seniority and skill. I'm second biggrin I'm one of three freshman and the only other clarinet is a senior. With songs with two clariet parts I play first with the senior, but if there are three, we have 1 1st, 1 2nd(me) and 2 3rds. What is fun is on one song not even the senior could play first part because it was up to the highest note we can play(keep in mind we are only high school concert band, lowest of the two at our school) so she(who is in both bands) is secretly playing second part with me. It is like a semi-harmonized lower first partXD Seriously, it goes up to a high C(Two above staff) which normal first parts stop at, occasioanlly going above.
So, I'd have to say it depends on the song. I like being able to stand out, so I like the 2-2 or 1-1-2 distribution of the parts. I can stand out without overpowering the others(though it is quite easy. Other two freshman need to blow harder and learn to play...) Besides, me and the senior are about equal to concert skill(No comment on marching skill, though0.o)

I like anything that isn't below 2nd. I play cantralto cletinet, which is fun. But I also play Euphonium, and 3rd trumpet in jazz band. I hate 3rd trumpet. it uses really low notes and it sucks crying
