Cougar Radio, the Roscoe High radio station is all about the voice of the administration, but when some of the students get tired of the voice of the administration, they decide to start their own radio station. They called themselves Radio Free Roscoe, the voice of the people. As Radio Free Roscoe becomes one of the most popular underground radio stations, the principal of Roscoe High, Danny Waller, gets nervous. He attempts to find the students who started the station and has gotten close enough to force the students running the station to lay low. Though making several close calls, Waller had never figured out who the four kids who run the radio station were.

The main characters are Robbie McGrath aka. Question Mark, Ray Brennen aka. Pronto, Travis Strong aka. Smog, and Lily Randell aka. Shady Lane. How did they get their names you might ask? Robbie McGrath had a dream to be the voice of Cougar Radio, but when he learned what it was really like, that dream faded fast. He is a ninth grader that is full of questions and a lot to say. He is so named Question Mark because most of what he says ends in a question mark. Ray Brennen is a joker and all around class clown. He likes to splice two words together to make one and always says it's the best of both worlds. Ray usually acts before he thinks and was so named Pronto when Robbie claimed that it was the opposite of what he really was. Travis Strong is a new student to Roscoe High after moving from nearly every place all over the world. His worldly expertise and Buddhist quotes seem to make many of the students of Roscoe uncomfortable. He got the name Smog after Ray called him a Smirk Dog and Travis put them together saying it was the best of both worlds. Lily Randell is an aspiring musician. She has been best friends with Robbie and Ray since they were young. She got the name Shady Lane when Robbie suggested it, because it was the name of the song that inspired her to become a musician.

Some other characters in the show include, Kim Carlisle, the voice of Cougar Radio and known for always being on Waller's good side. At home Kim has to deal with her overbearing father who only cares about making her future a success, but never thinks about letting her have fun. Ed and Ted are two best friends who are almost never seen apart. They are known to be two of the smartest kids at Roscoe, but are the typical dorks you would see through a high school. The two friends are big Radio Free Roscoe fans and have even helped RFR with some of their projects. River Peirce is well known around Roscoe High and a very popular jock. He is seen as a jerk at first, but known to have a soft side. Parker and Megan are members of Lily's band “No Mans Land” and good friends with the gang, though neither know about them running RFR. Megan almost never talks and is known for throwing her drumsticks after every song. Parker is known for talking a lot and always quoting her grandmother.

Popular pairings in the RFR fandom are Lily/Ray. Lily/Travis, Lily/River, Robbie/Kim, Travis/Parker, and Ray/Grace. Though there is no other Radio Free Roscoe fiction here, other than my own, other sites have shown these to be popular pairings.

The deception and secrets are what keep this show interesting. The interesting way the four students turn into their alter egos after a normal day of school keeps me watching. Although this is a show that has been canceled for some time now, I still enjoy the old episode I have taped. This show has comedy, deception, and everyday scenarios than can get screwed up in a minute. What more could you want? wink
