ocorse he let sasuke win.he wanted him to be more powerful.he really does love his brother,anoying as it is to admit that.but itachi new he would eventualy die at the hands of sasuke he just acted like he was all high and mighty around him so sasuke would have a goal in life to be strong enuf to finaly kill itachi. ninja

Yeah, Itachi definately lost on purpose. He wanted to give Sasuke all his powers, plus he knew he was dying anyway. I think he also hoped if he died, Sasuke would be satisfied with his 'revenge' and return to a normal life.
