"Thank you...my Lady."

His muscles in his back tightened when she touched him but he just let her do it. This was good, her touch was soft and for some reason he was surprised. Maybe it was the stigma that followed people in a position of authority being stern and rigid leaders, even for him. His Master always seemed to be the brooding type.

"I am Gabriel Valerius."

She was alive and well and he would be alive and well. There with the explosion he had thought for a moment before detecting her alive the many ways he could kill himself before Father found him. Then again Father could probably find a way to bring him back if he did not have someone to seperate his ashes for him.

She pulled the metal out quickly that was left over from the UV bullets. Small bits of UV burned her fingers, but she ignored the small amount that touched her. As his muscles rippled under her touch, she pulled quickly at another of the bullets, dropping it to the windowsill.

"I am Kaei Aubrey D'Ancanto, but I feel you already know that. I am known here and throughout the centuries as Rogue." She spoke quietly as she caused him pain again, pulling out another bullet.

"Why do I know you already, Gabriel?" She still had not been able to place him, but did not sort through the blood memories she attained when taking a bit of his blood on the rooftop.

"Well we have never met, that I can remember."

He could feel the wounds already closing behind him from the empty holes. Should would suck if he came in on this he thought. Well he didnt know if he was the jealous type but Gabriel wouldnt want to find out. This place was nice, he might have to take up a residence here for the duration of his stay however long that was going to be. Feeling the last of the bullets come out he turned and looked at Rogue. Now he had her face, his Master had given him memories of the faces of Gabby and Rikku in an attempt to help he guessed but finding Rogue first would be just as good.

"This is my first time visiting New York since a brief visit in the late twenties."

Time to try and play as ignorant as he could. He could disclose a little but he had strictly been warned against revealing His name. He didn't know why but that was the rules.

"I have never met you, but that does not mean I have never seen you before...yes. I have seen you, once in this lifetime. I remember faces because of my painterly nature."

She smiled warmly as they were very close to one another, looking each other in the eye.

"What brings you to New York, and what coven do you come from? It seems one such as yourself would not come on a chance visit...your blood tastes of age."

She was not a trusting fool, but ancients, or older vampires were not always found. She also did not understand his protecting of her. She understood her own men, and that of her own coven, but many of other covens would not risk their lives in such a way.

"I also would like to know why you insisted on my protection of the roof."

If he knows anything of me, he will know I am not helpless like a child. She kept these thoughts to herself and they did not fade into her features.

"I do not have a coven of my own although you could say I was adopted into one. My blood cannot be traced to any elder, I am unique. One of kind....as far as I know."

He toyed with the last question in his head a little wondering if he wanted to divulge that information. There was nothing wrong with it he supposed but he liked having little fun but then again he was suppose to treat her kindly. It was like having a parent that for all you knew he could be at the other end of the world or living in the same city but no matter where he was he could see you and know what you were doing.

"Your protection is why I am in this city. It is probably because of that age you taste that I was chosen. Who knows."

It was like there was tears to being vampire depending on ones age. He had noticed that over the years depending on his age he began to meet increasingly older members of his kind. As if age told them that you were smart enough to handle yourself and to not do anything stupid if they talked to you. No doubt his near two millenia had attracted Da. Still he had no idea how He thought they had anything in common. He was atleast six thousand years old Gabriel gathered from the various memories he had been allowed to see. Hardly anything in common.

"Protection?" She smiled slightly."And why would anyone want to protect me specifically. I am not anything special, or one of a kind." She moved a piece of hair from her face.

"And one of a kind..." She wondered if he were flattering himself, or there was truth to his acclaim. She looked at his arm and ran a cold finger over a spot that was threading itself together from a bullet tear.

"What could make you so special, I wonder." She looked up into his eyes, her finger still upon him.

"Youre unique to someone. All I can say about it is that at one time a certain vampire came to New York and you caught his eye."

He looked down at her finger and the wound and then looked back up at her. Somewhere in the back of his head it was like he had a third conscience and it was slightly irritated at him. Looking around he saw a throw on a chair and grabbed it up and wrapped it around himself. He was a vampire and he did have a level of sexual energy that made humans want to come closer and made him unnaturally willing to partake of that fruit. However he knew that he would be getting into dangerous territory if he tried anything like that or if he happened to be partially undressed in the same room as the jewel of an extremely old and possibly unstable vampire.

"I wouldn't say I am special, just different. I wasn't exactly turned per say, I have streak of eldritch deals with metaphysical persons..."

With that he looked down and then up motioning to heaven and hell.

She could tell she was making him slightly uncomfortable. "Who is this someone."

He put the throw around himself, but she remained close to him. He was not allowed to touch her, this she could deduce.
"Who would send someone else rather than come themselves."

"That Im not allowed to tell. He doesn't have a good history with some of the other vampires of New York, some of your friends. Rather than killing them he chooses to distance himself for now."

He smiled while saying that as if to add on without saying it 'For me to know and you to find out'. She still looked somewhat beaten up from the fight earlier and he had noticed earlier that when she joined him she was not in the greatest condition.

"Do you need to have something to drink?"

Walking over he brushed the empty packets from earlier into the trash can and put the glass in the sink. Not the smoothest way to change the subject but at the same time he could atleast say he was genuinely asking if she needed it.

She had an image of jumping him and beating the information out of him, but thought better of it and suppressed a grin.

She felt the weight of her own body as she surveyed the damage.
"Yes. I suppose I am a bit worse for wear."

He prepared the drink and walked back over setting down across from her.

"How do the hunters have such a foothold in New York?"

This was puzzling to him somewhat. Hunters were always and will always be a problem but few times have they ever been an equal amount of forces on each side between vampires and hunters. He remembered during the crusades many cities were sacked due comletely to vampires and hunters destroying one another when they reached a breaking point. The current war was nothing more than a cover up. Those were good times he thought with a silly grin of nostalgia on his face.

"The foothold is that a good portion are traitors to their races. Vampires hunting other vampires, lycans hunting other lycans. In reality a good portion are not human anymore. But the rise was due to the outbreak of our existence to the public..."

She shifted on her feet, and ran her tongue over her fangs, mouth closed. She closed her eyes feeling her wounds unconsciously, the dull nagging pain as they fought to close.

"But I'm sure that the other covens have heard about it. I personally met with several other Elders from the European countries to discuss what should be done. The hunters were killing many innocent people, as well as vigilantes catching our own off guard because they were not expecting to be attacked in the open. We laid low for quite some time, and were reduced to stop hunting for a time...cloned blood kept us going for a few months until we could turn this situation to our advantage."

She looked him in the eye then.
"Why is your master so reluctant to come here himself, and why would I need protection at all. I'm sure I can handle my own, as we have been doing for quite some time."

"Don't you get it. There is no reason that I know of that he would want to protect you other than for some reason he loves you. Then again each year I learn there are things in the world that go bump in the night for even vampires or hunters or werewolves. Maybe at his age his better awareness of those things makes him paranoid."

He didn't really know what could be the reason, because for some reason if there was one it was easier to just open up man to man about his feelings.

"I was serious before when I told the hunter that I looked out for the greater good. I have found cults that try and usher in the apocalypse all the time. None of them seem to be real threats though but its the vain of work I think that caught his attention. I got a chance to look at some things of his home, few books about daemonic entities that if allowed access would flatten New York with a thought."

Those books were old and reaked of evil. He had only got to glance at a few of them and they were of a whole different caliber to what he had been charged with fighting. Out of all that however it just seemed that his Master was just a collector and historian.

"I think that was just it, paranoia. He had discovered the next level above us and became submurged in its study. You wouldn't believe the magnitude of the power of some demons. Those we have seen here are nothing compared to what can't get out of their realms."

From what he had seen though someone was obviously in control of that situation so they had little to worry about. The last part of her question though he could only speculate at. His Master obviously traveled abundantly just from the collection of books and artifacts that he had seen, some of which made him drool over wishing he could just get a hold of for a little time.

"I don't know why he doesn't come and for all me or you know he could be in this very city. I don't usually ask to many questions when said person has the ability to flick a wrist and turn my head into pulp."

Death comes to us all....

She didn't know whether the thoughts were hers or another's, but the words snaked through her mind. "I have only heard legends of such beasts...tales the old ones tell..." She knew she was old, but there were a good portion of vampires older than she. She was in truth, young for an elder. He was loyal to his master, and she could see why anyone would want Gabriel working for them and on their side.

"Well, thus far, he seems to not have any reason to squelch you yet."
She grinned slightly.
"And you can relay the message that I will try to stay out of trouble for his sake." She lifted an eyebrow, and nodded, making her way to the door.
"If there is nothing else, I am going to retire for the day."
