Rivalry Reignited With the reopening of XCW, we saw a lot of new matches, and a lot of new faces. But a few of the alumni were here, and two would rekindle an old rivalry. The Talented One has had run ins with the Damone family ever since he debuted, and has gotten on their bad side just about every time. Before the hiatus of XCW, he got on the bad side of Zarel Damone. Formerly, these two took the tag team championships from Through the Pain in a surprising upset, and went on into a feud against the Brothers of Destruction. When WWCW invaded the company, they both turned against XCW, and Cartwright was in the final match to end the feud between the two companies. Cartwright lost that Pandora's Box match at Wrestlemania, and Zarel lost the Undisputed Championship that same night. The following night on Impact, Cartwright turned on Zarel, giving the Brothers of Destruction their tag team championships. He then brutally attacked Zarel after the match. Zarel got some payback the next week, allowing Cartwright to win the intercontinental championship from Kane before returning the favor. With XCW's close, we thought we'd seen the end of the feud. On opening night, Zarel and Cartwright both made appearances, but Zarel showed that he hadn't forgotten the past, and he had payback in mind. During Cartwright's match, Zarel came down to the ring and distracted Cartwright long enough to let Marxx roll Cartwright up for the pin. Cartwright returned the favor later that night, costing Zarel a victory over Robert Orman. Zarel got the last laugh, however, as he thwarted a double team assault from Robert and Cartwright, giving them a taste of things to come. The feud between Zarel and Cartwright that started almost two years ago is seemingly coming to a head. At Backlash, Zarel teams with Marxx to face the team of Cartwright and Robert Orman, but at some point, the two will have to go one on one.

Pandora's Box Returns: New Champion to Be Crowned at Backlash When XCW closed for a brief period last year, a lot of superstars were let out of their contracts or went into retirement. As such, the titles have been vacated. Most importantly, Undisputed Champion Shawn Michaels went into retirement and left the championship vacant. Originally, Backlash was supposed to feature a main event hell in a cell match between two world champions, Shawn Michaels and Christian Cage. But with titles now vacant and Shawn Michaels in retirement, that wasn't possible. At the first Impact show, XCW Chairman Jarel Damone made it clear that at Backlash the Undisputed Championship would be decided inside Pandora's Box, and later that night announced Christian Cage would be participating in it. This monstrous structure is Jarel's own creation, along with fellow legend the Maverick, that is eerily reminiscent of the hell in a cell structure. There are however, key differences. First, there are no doors. Secondly, the roof is a solid platform instead of chainlink, with one large hole in the top. On top of the structure are ladders, and hanging from the rafters are two keys. Back inside the structure are two boxes filled with weapons. Until the competitors retrieve their keys, pinfalls and submissions don't count. Once they've unlocked their box, this match is no disqualifications, and first pinfall or submission wins. Jarel was the master of hell in a cell, and with just a few short matches proved to be just as efficient in Pandora's Box before retiring. Now Christian Cage was the next victim of the structure, but who would be joining him? The question was answered Friday Night on Warzone, when Jarel added the ever dangerous Poison to the match. Poison demolished Cartwright in this very same match at Wrestlemania to secure XCW as the dominant brand in the XCW vs WWCW war. Though it was only one match, that experience will definitely come into play as these two enter the structure. One could say that this match favors the larger and stronger Poison, as this is a match made for brawlers, for those that live to maim and destroy. But don't count Cage out. Cage is undefeated here in XCW and has survived some tough challenges to date. Ever the underdog, we've seen Cage tople Shawn Michaels, Damien, and Samoa Dan to get to where he is and he shows no signs of stopping now. Cage's speed will be an asset in a match where one has to climb out onto the roof. But as Poison showed us, he's right at home out on top, as he did toss Cartwright from the roof back down to the ring. Backlash is sure to be interesting when, as the saying goes, the Unstoppable force meets the immovable object.

Clash of the Cruisers Now that XCW has been reopened, it brings with it the return of one of the most popular and exciting divisions, the cruiser division. As we know, anyone under 235 pounds can compete in this division, man or woman. We've seen this championship on the likes of Hall of Famer Janelle Damone, former WWE Women's champion, Trish Stratus, another hall of famer in Shawn Michaels, and the last champion, Brandon Damone. This time the division returns with some new players. AJ Styles and Christina Parks, as well as Sliv, are here with something new to add to the mix. Brandon Damone is back and looking to gain back what he lost. And Janelle has apparently stepped out of retirement to add to the division again as well. Backlash will see the crowning of a new Cruiser champion, as all five of these people will compete in a 5 way elimination style match, with the last two competitors engaging in a ladder match to determine the new champion. The two favorites have to be the two 2 time champions, Brandon and Janelle Damone. But with AJ Styles having given Rhamm a run for his money for the Television championship, and Christina Parks pushing Christian Cage limit last week on Warzone, they can't be considered underdogs, and Sliv is the unpredictable fifth element. The cruiser division returns to open up the show with the high flying style that they made their name on.
