the only suikodens i have ever played, and the only ones i heard of before i came here, were 1-4. Please tell me of any of the other and can i even get them. I REALLY want to play them, 2 and 3 are on my top five game list, 2 at the top and 3 below star ocean:till the end of time at third place

There are others, but it will be a pain if you don't understand Japanese.
PSX - Suikogaiden 1 and 2 - These are text based adventures centering around Nash and Sierra. There isn't any voice acting, so good luck wading through the sea of kanji.
GBC - Suikoden Card Stories - The story is that of Suikoden 2's, except all the battles are card battles. There are real cards that you can buy and collect, but they've been hard to find, at least for me. I managed to find some at AnimeExpo this year, though...
PS2 - Rhapsodia/Suikoden Tactics - Don't worry about this one, it's coming to the US soon. Its story takes place before, during, and after Suikoden 4's.

A translator? I'm not sure... There might be some translations on the internet, but I haven't really looked.

I know there's a part you can buy for your Playstation that will play and translate imported games, but I don't remember what it's called, or where I read about it. But it will cause an explosion if you put it in wrong... sweatdrop

the gaidens are actually pretty boring unless you can read japanese. they're more of suikoden 2 eyecandies for fans, but as far as gameplay is concerned, your only mission is to choose what nash says next. the next scene will depend on what nash replies.
the first game revolves on nash's background and his adventure with sierra later on. in the middle of the game, you get to meet suikoden 2 characters which unlock secret scenes that you will never see on suikoden 2 itself... same with the 2nd gaiden, but the story is on camus and miklotov, then on futch and humphrey. in the middle you get to tag along with other suikoden 2 gang that weren't in the 1st gaiden (but not all).
the other aim of the gaidens is to show more of the suikoden 2 characters' backgrounds --- one sample is the viki/little viki incident.
i've never played the card battle... i hate card battles, even if it is suikoden. and i've yet to touch rhapsodia. i didn't really enjoy gs4, but i've heard rhapsodia's story doesn't involve gs4 much... more of the story of kooluk than the island nations.
