Short Story Contest

Another contest has arrived. smile The contest will be to write a continuation of the story prompt below. This contest will run through the end of January, so you have a month to write something and submit it. After that, the voting for a winner will begin.

Here’re the rules:

It must be between 250 - 750 words long, but we won’t strangle you if you go a bit above that…however we will strangle you if it is less (unless it’s really good.)

Your story must have a plot and a clear ending. It must flow in some way, be clear, and make sense. You can make it fun, serious, or anything between, but it still has to be a story of some kind.

You are expected to attempt to use proper grammar and structure. “Text talk”, unless it’s part of the story, will be frowned upon. Remember, everyone has to be able to read this. Even if you aren’t that great at spelling, it’s okay. Just make sure it’s readable.

Keep the story PG - 13. Any entry that is extremely graphic in language or other content, or that shows a lack of toleration for any ethnic, religious, racial, gender, or any other group type will automatically be disqualified. Nor can it advocate such beliefs…so your story can have Neo-Nazis in it if you want, but your story can not advocate or promote their beliefs in any way.

The contest ends on January 31st. All entries must be submitted to IY_and_MCR.

And without out further ado, your prompt for this evening is...

"She woke up with a startled jolt as the door slammed and the shutters banged against the window as the wind whipped them open and closed. She rubbed her eyes and looked outside the window, it was still dark. She looked around and saw other people stick their heads out of their windows also, but there was nothing, just the wind. She shrugged and went back to bed, but as soon as she closed her eyes the night was lifted and a bright light came into her room. She looked at the clock, it was just past midnight. Why would the sun be out now? Or was it the sun…. She went to her window again, opened the curtains and stared down out of them in amazement, the bright light coming over the hillside and the thing behind it, coming slowly towards them…towards her. As it drew closer the wind picked up, slamming her window shut again. She tried to fasten it shut, but the light seeped in through the cracks and the window shot open again. And there it was, staring right at her. The light blinded her and she stumbled back from the window, and she heard a voice..."
