She had to strike soon. This she was sure of.

Night time was quickly approaching and the lights that embodied her slender form shone dimly. Though now she was not much too look at, at the moment once darkness approached, she was a sight to see. The bright, multi colored lights that dangled from loose strings and her body, which seemed to disappear in the darkness, lit up in the night giving the land an assortment of colored scenery. Her meal was locked within her dull lavender orbs and she did not loose focus nor sight of it. It appeared that the hare took no notice of the dragonfly as she slowly stalked. It grazed upon the lush grass it stood upon, it's abnormally large ears swaying to and fro to hear the sounds around it. Muscles tightened and heart bumped faster with every step she took. She crouched down from time to time as the hare turned it's head for a moment, making sure not to blow her cover. She would be damned to let that happen. At the one final moment, the one in which she felt was the right one, she lept from her hiding place. The chase was on.

The thrill of the chase got the best of her. Her heart raced and her breath became heavier. She began to salivate ever so slightly just at the mere taste of the hare and the first droplet of blood that every dragonfly can't wait to taste once the victim is caught in between their fangs. The hare zig-zagged this way and that although it was not fast to loose the killer that wished to take it's life. She heard the hare's heart beating faster and faster as though if it were to beat any faster, it would explode. Lyin kicked it into high gear as though this chase had taken too long and dragged on for ever. She was getting hunger and she had to end it fast. Once she got close enough, she extended her front paw forward, tripping the hare. She watched as the creature went head first into a somersault, tumbling down a tiny hill. She chased after the meal and quickly found herself hovering over the hare. She narrowed her eyes towards the hare allowing a sly smirk to play upon her features. Opening her mouth, she snarled softly and quickly went in for the final kill going straight for the hare's throat. The ear shattering death scream from the hare echoed throughout the land.

Satisfied and full, Lylin made her way towards a near by brook. Night time finally approached and her lights shone bright. As she walked, she appeared as only a blur of colors and nothing more. Once close to the water, she lowered her blood stained muzzle to take a sip. The cold yet refreshing taste of the clear blue water trickled down her mouth. She heaved a gentle sigh as she stretched slightly. Lowering herself to her haunches, she took in the night air. Strange. She thought to herself. Tonight seemed unusually calm and peaceful. Not saying as though that was a bad thing of coarse. She enjoyed the night when it was filled with live. Perhaps, she supposed, that tonight was starting off slow. Whatever the case, she took in the serenity of it all. Night time was the time of day she felt fully alive.

User Image Kano had been walking along a small path that seemed to be made by a small family of boars. The smell of the boars was older then a week so he was not worried about running into them. With his nose in the air it was surprising that he didn't trip over the roots and things along the path. Something had been in the air when he first started along the path. Something that he just couldn't place. It smelled like a dragonfly but there was also another kind of smell clinging to the other one.

Sighing to himself he peered about into the shadows of the trees looking at nothing at all. The wind changed and he got a dull smell of his own scent. Banana and watermelon. A gift from his parents when he and his siblings were born. That got him lost about thinking how he should go back and see his parents again. Well thinking he almost missed the blur of colors going by somewhere past the trees. The odd scent had come up again and he stopped to watch the colors appearing and disappearing behind the trees. When they finally disappeared all together he moved quickly to follow where they had been.

He could only follow the smell because it seemed the lights had disappeared. He was confused because it smelt like a Dragonfly, but the lights didn't look like anything he had seen before. His mind wandered to maybe if it was an elder using one of there powers. But it seemed the mass blur was so small to be an elder. This just made him start to walk faster to see what it was, and without knowing he was running and wagging his tail. Something new to find and discover.

The smell of water hit his nose along with the smell of blood. He slowed his pace when the colorful blur came back into view at the waters edge. Turning his head in question he lost himself looking into the colors and wandered what they were. So many colors all in one spot, made him step forward without even knowing that the lights were on a Dragonfly.

Her body became limp and her breathing was slow as she listened to the world around her. The night allowed her to escape reality and enter her own little world, one in which was like no other. In her own world, she was able to take in what had happened that day or the day before and question what had happened and how she could have changed it or at least tried too. She reflected back on the dragonflies that she met, which besides the ones whom she joined their tiny pack with, was not many, and the creatures that she befriended along her journey to a place she didn't even know where she was headed. Sometimes, in her own world, she even reflected back from when she was a pup. Although, the past was something she would rather not reflect back on although it crept up from behind her at times.

She arose and slowly padded towards the shallow waters where she soon would bask. Though physically she was there, mentally she was still in her own world. She raised her delicate cranium towards the sky while fangs bared into a smile as the moon quickly caught her eye. She whispered softly to the moon and the moon spoke back, making her laugh softly. Her lights shone brightly then before as she began to dance. She danced with the moon, her paws pulling up some water as she did so. As she danced in what appeared to be a circle, her gait was a graceful trot and her soft voice was now in a hum. Though what appeared to be strange actions to one, was actually a ritual of hers that she happened to perform each and every night, or at least a night in which the moon shone high upon the lands. This is what the night did to her.

Tonight brought in an unusual smell. One that went entered her nares seemed to burn. It did not smell of burning or decaying flesh or of that of some pray she never smelt before. But something...fruity. As quickly as she visited her own world and went into a trance, she quickly snapped out of it. She stood in the water for a moment and cocked her cranium, taking in the scent once more. Blinking once, her nose twitched slightly as though to make sure the scent was actually that of reality and not of her imagination, the female stood dumbstruck and still dazed for a moment. What..what is that smell? She thought to herself as she blinked once more. Dull lavender orbs narrowed as she quickly glanced around the dark terrain although, thankfully, her multi-colored lights were useful in shinning a someone bright light in order for her to see better. It's coming closer. She thought once more, her top lip quivered slightly.

The scent was stronger now as it's carrier drew near. Her eyes remained narrow as she glanced behind her shoulder, the frame of another creature was captured in her eyes. The hairs upon her back began to stand, that only being her first instinct to protect herself from an unknown creature. Slowly, she turned her body to meet with the other allowing a soft chuckle to escape her lips, one so soft it was barely audible. As she stared at the creature, she immediately noted it's coat color. Such an unusual shade of pink for such a male Dragonfly like that. Her eyes narrowed down towards the other Dragonfly's legs as he approached her. He appeared mesmerized. But by what? She wasn't even sure of. Perhaps this was what the night did to him. Slowly, as he inched closer to her, she couldn't help but back away. Her jaws separated as she were to speak although nothing escaped her voice box. She tried once more this time being successful. "Um, excuse me," she spoke softly. "A-are you okay?" she asked, her brow remained cocked and she caught herself stuttering ever so slightly.

Kano had become lost in the colors of the lights and almost forgot that he was moving forward. It was not that he wanted the lights, but he just wanted to be close to them. They seemed so out of place in the darkness and he wanted to know why they were there. Taking another step forward closers the lights moved back. He almost started to panic and move forwards after them.

A sound broke through his kind of daze and it took him a moment to pin point where it was coming from. It seemed to be coming from the lights, but that couldn't be could it? Looking away from the lights for a moment then back at them more careful he saw what the lights were on. A dragonfly with the lights around her body. It was then he stopped and his ears flickered trying to remember what the dragonfly had said to him.

"I'm sorry." He took a step back away from her and let his ears drop. "Yes, I'm fine. I was just..." He was not sure how to say he had lost himself in the lights. "I saw the things around you and kinda lost myself in how pretty they are." He took another step back and sat down. "I didn't mean to scare you are anything. It is just that..." He sighed and looked away trying to get away the little spots that now appeared from looking at the lights. "I have never seen anything like that before."

A light hearted smile spread upon her features as she listened to his words and a mere nod of her head was given. "That's fine," she began. "To be honest, you kind of scared me." She added. And who wouldn't be? When he approached her, she felt cornered as though there was no where to run and whenever he drew near, she thought the worst that might have had happened to her. Shaking her head momentarily, she spoke once more. "Well, I'm glad to see that your fine," she said with another half hearted smile.

Making her way out of the clear waters, she slowly lowered herself to her haunches. "Huh? Oh, my lights?" she said grabbing a string and lifting it up as though to show him them; as if he didn't see enough of them already. "These things are around me all the time. I hate the day time though because you can't really see them glow as much as you do at night," she said with a gentle grin. Blinking once, she spoke once more. "Well, I never smelt anything so fruity before either," she added. No longer did she have to find the source of the smell. As the gentle night winds blew, the scent that he carried was stronger than before and makes its way into her nares. "Not like it's a bad thing. I like it. How did you get such a strong smell to stick to you?" she asked with a cocked cranium.

The little spots were still on this eyes as he looked back at the dragonfly now looking at her mainly and not the lights. He was sure that she thought him to be come crazy dragonfly or something. But as hard as he tried he kept looking back at the lights and how pretty they were.

"I can see why you would dislike the day. I would love to always be able to see those glowing if they were on me." He wagged his tail and laughed a little. Maybe he was crazy, because the lights made him happy and this dragonfly did as well. "My smell?" He often forgot about what he smelt like. "Oh, right, I got it from my parents. When I was born the smell was on me. I forget that I smell that way because I'm around it all the time that I don't smell it any more." He was a little sad at that but knew it was life. If he wanted to smell his own scent he had to smell something stronger for a long time.

"Can I ask how you got those around you? I mean I wouldn't think them to be comfy or anything, but I don't know because I'm not wearing them." He offered a smile after that.

((sorry it took so long. I've been busy irl and haven't been able to log on))

A gentle smile spread upon her features and she too couldn't help but laugh. This dragonfly was quite the interesting one but there's no harm in that. She listened contently at his answer. Fruity smelling dragonflies? Now that was a first. Once he finished, dull lavender orbs narrowed slightly and her ears pressed back. "How did I get these lights?" she repeated, her voice was soft. Lylin never liked thinking about her past. She went through tough times and although it was many moons ago, she felt as though it were yesterday. She sat silent for a moment as she thought back on how she got her lights. Though this was a memory, at the time, she thought of as no value, she thought hard. It just seemed as though memories like these and even happier ones where slowly disappearing only to make room for the painful events that occurred in her childhood. Memories any one would try not to remember.

The moon's light reflected off her lights, making her shine even brighter. She thought for a moment once more and glanced back up at him. She smiled softly, a reassuring one at best and parted her lips to speak. "Actually, they are very comfy. Sometimes, I don't even remember that they are there," she said with a smile. "You just need to get used to them," she added. She thought for a moment and allowed her lips to part once more as she began her tale. "Ah well when I was little, my mom went out to hunt or something it was pretty dark out. My memory is a bit fuzzy so please bear with me," she said. Or perhaps its because you yourself do not wish to remember such memories of your past. To remember such heart breaking memories that still scar you today. No, that's not it. That has nothing to do with these lights. Or do they? She found herself arguing with her thoughts no less. She did not want to hear the voice, that cruel whisper that creeps into her at times and just brings up things that she wishes not to remember. With a snort, she shook her head with a quick and swift movement, she parted her gentle lips to continue on with her story. "Since the color of my fur matched the night, my mother feared that when she returned, she would loose me. So in my family, we have this sort of tradition, if you will, to wrap the young pup in lights that even when they are far away, the lights will shine for miles and assure the parents that they are safe. I was the last born in my family and so these were the last lights passed on to me, for now. But when my mother did not come back and disappeared, I decided to keep these lights on and I grew into them. These lights were the last thing that reminded me of my mother and there was no way I was going to take them off."

"Of coarse, as a naive child, I waited for my mother's return but I eventually figured I should stop wasting my time waiting around and move on. I figured she either abandoned me and that she gave me these lights to remember her by or worse.. These lights...They were like a security blanket for me. I felt safe wrapped in these lights, especially when I tried to sleep and I heard strange noises at night that frightened me as a child. I felt that the lights would ward off the creatures of the night and protect me. Of coarse, when I learned how to hunt, the lights made me stick out like a sore thumb but I eventually managed,"she stopped her tale for a moment and smiled. "I'm sorry. I'm finding myself rambling on," she said.
