The Christmas Genie

About three things were certain to Lucy; Santa wasn’t real, her wishes would never come true, and her present for her parents were awful. It was nothing very creative, just a simple I wish you a Merry Christmas card, but she wanted to give her parents the best Christmas of their lives and hers.
“Mom, what do you want for Christmas?” She asked one morning a week before Christmas.
“Hmm…I don’t know. Why don’t you surprise me?” her mom replied.
Sighing Lucy walked away and sat in her room thinking of what she could possibly give her parents.
"Lucy? You okay in there?" her dad asked.
"Yes dad," she replied.
Lucy gazed out her window and saw that snow was falling. Grabbing her purse she silently opened her window and climbed out of it as quite as a mouse.
She walked down the street. She planned on visiting the local supermart that was down the road but something stopped her. Lying by a bush she saw a small golden lamp. She went to pick it up at shook it, wondering if anything was inside it.
"Rub me three times!" She heard it say.
She almost dropped it, but something told her not to.
So, she rubbed the lamp three times and a purplish misty air came out of the lamp. Followed by a woman dressed in the strangest clothing she had ever seen.
"Ah! Thank you miss!" the mysterious woman said.
"If you don't mind me asking...did you just come out of this lamp?" Lucy asked.
"Why yes I did! I am a genie miss and I am to grant you three wishes!" she said.
"Really! What is your name?"
"Arabella at your service!" she replied bowing slightly.
"Oh, well. I don't know what to wish for now, but I'll let you know."
Arabella folded her arms in annoyance, she hoped that the girl wouldn't wish for more wishes. It took her forever to get away from the last girl that did that.
Lucy started to walk back home, thinking of something that she could wish from the genie that she could give her parents. She couild hear the genie mumbling inncohearnt words behind her and ignored her. Would her parents notice Arabella? Lucy thought to herself.
"Arabella, should you be coming in my house, I don't think my parents would like it very well if I brought someone home that they or I didn't really know" Lucy said.
"No need to worry about that! I am invisible to everyone except you. Your parents won't even notice me. By the way, ahve you thought of any wishes?"
"I'm thinking. Please don't badger me about it. I'm trying to think of the perfect gift for my parents," Lucy replied.
Michelle got back to her house in no time and climbed in her open window. After the Genie climbed in she shut it silently. She walked to her door and listened to see if her parents noticed her absense.She couldn't hear anything so she sat on her bed and stared at the Genie.
One thing came to her mind of a wish. She didn't know what her parents wanted so she would wish that her parents got what their hearts desired on Christmas day.
"I am ready to say my first wish!" Lucy announced.
The Genie, who was sitting on her floor jumped up in surprise.
"I wish that my parents got what their hearts desired truly on Christmas day," Lucy said.
The Genie waved her hands about and mystical colors appeared, Lucy felt a suddent mysterious happiness and she didn't know why. Arabella stared at her and watched her every movement. Of course Arabella knew what it was that Lucy's parents wanted, they wanted Lucy to be happy that it was the holidays because she had been unhappy lately. Unfortunatly she didn't know why Lucy was unhappy.
Lucy stared out the window and began to imgine snow falling. It never snowed where she lived because she lived in Florida.Lucy could feel the genie staring at her and began to feel uncomfortable.
"Arabella?" Lucy said.
"Yes," the genie replied.
"Can you make it snow?"
"I'm not sure. I guess if you wish it. And I imagine it won't last very long," the genie said.
"Oh," Lucy replied.
Lucy sat and thought. She would wish for snow, but for only one day. And that was tomorrow. Because tomorrow was Christmas, and she felt happier now than she had earlier in the day.
"Genie, I have my second wish. I wish it would snow here in Florida tomorrow all day and then go away after twenty-four hours," Lucy said smiling.
Arabella waved her hands around again and Lucy felt cold wind come in from her open window. She'd have awhile to wait for the snow.
"I have one more thing to ask," Lucy said.
"One more?" Arabella replied.
"Is Santa real?"
"Yes and no. Yes, he was once real but died a long time ago and parents have kept on the tradtion of giving presents every Christmas year. No, he is not real anymore, I am sorry," Arabella replied sadly.
Lucy almost started to cry but she stopped herself becuase deep down she knew that Santa wasn't real. But, now she felt assured that she was right all along.
Lucy felt she needed to give something to the genie for Christmas so she asked, "What do you want for Christmas Genie?"
Arabella stared at her in amazement. Had the child asked her what she had hoped someone would ask for so long now? Yes, she was sure she had.
"I-I wish to be free of my lamp," Arabella replied cautiously.
Nodding Lucy thought it over. Was it a trick? Would she do something awful to her once she wished for her freedom? She doubted it.
"Okay then. I wish you were free of your lamp forever!"
The genie smiled and waved her hands around once more and a small burting noise came from somewhere outside. Lucy jumped in surprise.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" the genie said giving Lucy a hug.
"What was that noise?" Lucy asked.
"That was the noise of my lamp bursting and the sound of my freedom. I thank you. If you ever need me again all you need to do is call my name and I'll be there! Have a Merry Merry Christmas Lucy!"
Lucy smiled and replied, "I will. Now that you made me happy. Is that what my parents wanted? For me to be happy?"
The Genie nodded.
"You may leave if you wish. You have given me all that I could possibly want for now. Do you have somewhere to stay?"
"Yes, yes I do! Thank you again!" Arabella gave Lucy another hug.
She then opened Lucy's window and jumped out of it running down the street jumping in happiness.
"No, thank you genie!" Lucy hollared after her.
The genie stopped in the middle of the street and waved to her and disapeared.


THE NEXT DAY
CHRISTMAS

Lucy woke up stretching and rubbing her eyes. She immediatly looked out her window and saw snow falling lightly. She jumped out of bed and looked at the ground out her window and saw a light covering of snow. She opened her window and reached down and got a little handful of snow and put it in her mouth and savored every drop if it that went down her throat.
After that she closed her window and ran out the window screaming, "MOM, DAD WAKE UP! IT'S CHRISTMAS!" She ran to the tree and grabbed one of her presents feeling happier than ever. Her parents walked in and gave her hug and said Merry Christmas. Lucy opened the rest of her presents and enjoyed the rest of the day by playing outside in the snow with her parents.
