Well, looks like you've gotten pretty far. You're here! Then, let me tell you about the rules of this guild, and if at the end, you still feel confident enough that you will be accepted, I will proceed to tell you how you may join. Sounds like a pretty decent plan to me.

So, the rules. These are going to be subdivided into two categories. The rules that apply for everything inside this guild come first, and they are a lot more general. The second type are the rules that I recommend be applied to the role-plays. For anything I create, they stand strictly, but for the RPs made by others, they may not all apply. Usually, I rely on common sense when dealing with "rule-breakers". So, just follow your gut instict on what would be out bounds, and you should be just fine.

General Rules

1. All Gaia Rules, including the ToS must be obeyed strictly at all times. There are no exceptions, and there will never be any. If you're looking for love, it's probably not here. If you're looking to spam or post porn, I will delete it after notifying a moderator so they can ban you from this site forever!

http://www.gaiaonline.com/info/tos.php?info=rules

2. There will be no one-liners or anything in that realm at all. If I see asterisks outside of OOC, you will be banned from the guild by default. I don't care what the excuse is, but if you RP, do so with some semblance of proper spelling and grammar and what not. Anyone who thinks this rule isn't going to apply to them needs to leave now.

3. No stock characters. Need I say more? Well, in case I need to, I will specify. A stock character is one without feelings, not unique so to speak. These characters are highly discouraged.

Stock characters are characters that have no life in them, so to speak. Imagine watching an anime or a movie and having a chacter there that does not stand out, that has nothing to separate them from any of the other characters. That's the kind of thing we want to avoid.

Breathe life into your characters. Give them strengths and weaknesses. Give them hopes, goals, ideals, morals, etc. What makes you you? Those same qualities, good and bad, also make for more believable characters.

Some helpful links:

Tao If Fighting

4. There will be no player killing here. None whatsoever! NPCs are cannon fodder, but the only way to kill other people's characters is to first ask for their permission. Both parties need to PM me because I don't want any disputes on why Bob killed Mary Sue. Seriously.

5. And, always, you're more than welcome to have some fun. Fun is the first priority.

6. When creating a new RP, add the word limit to the title, so people know what's up. Please? Okay. Thank you! Put "none" when no word count is applicable.

7. Everyone needs to remain active and post daily or whenever you are told to post. There is no excuse for this! However, I do understand that reality takes precedence, so I advise you to choose your RPs carefully. That's all.

7b. Everyone needs to post at least once every two weeks. If not, please warn us about this, so that we know. You don't need a reason, just a warning that you'll be gone so that people don't wait for ages for a post. Okay? Perfect. As far as action goes, I will PM every user who is absent for a prolonged amount of time and ask them what's up. If I still don't get an answer within a week, then I will have to come up with drastic measures. No idea what those are yet, but you won't get cookies. smile

These rules apply to everyone. No one is exempt from them. However, once you begin to create your own roleplays, you will want to add to those rules. And for this purpose, I leave a lot open. For those of you who have participated in my RP, you've had a word limit, and I wll specifiy that, but I will not enforce it outside of my RPs. Other game masters are allowed to choose what happens and how it happens. That's their right.

On that note, here is what I consider very literate role-playing.

The word count is 350 words per post or more. Seems like a lot, but it's really not that bad. I also think that profiles are actually a detriment because they don't allow you to develop your character as you go along, so in my RPs, unless I need some test to make sure people can spell, I will typically abhor the idea of profiles. They are far too much of a hassle.

For me, a literate roleplayer can take a situation and move the storyline along through it. That means creating and/or destroying NPCs as well as being able to work out the details. Description is important, but so is being able to make sense of the plot and keep it alive.

I will abide by these, but not every GM here might want to. Which brings me to the nitty-gritty part. These are not RP rules in any way, shape, or form. These are more to keep everyone on the same page and out of each other's hair.

1. Anyone may start a new RP.
2. A new thread is automatically considered an RP unless stated otherwise.
3. Arguments are welcome, but please don't come to blows with each other.
4. I will assign moderators. Don't ask me to be one.
5. If you don't like how someone RPs, please tell me, not them.
6. If you would like to start an RP class, just label it so, and it's yours. These would ultimately be appreciated.
7. Feel free to RP in Barton Town as well**
8. See people who post the way you like it, hey, PM me, and I'll invite them over. We like new people. smile We like corrupting new people, too.
9. Please keep angry disputes down to a minimum
10. Leet is not acceptable except in very small quantities. You write posts with it, and Jeremy will turn into an angry dragon. *rawr* A pause here. *meow*
11. Please be mature.

*~*

**Um, I strongly urge people to RP out there as well as in here to attract attention of others. Not much more we can do, really.

*~*

What does PG-13 mean, overall?

Quote:
Parents Strongly Cautioned. Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13. This signifies that the film rated may be inappropriate for pre-teens. Parents should be especially careful about letting their younger children attend. Rough or persistent violence is absent; sexually-oriented nudity is generally absent; some scenes of drug use may be seen; one use of the harsher sexually derived words may be heard.

In other words,
*Serious nudity is not okay in relation to sex, but guys walking around without shirts or something like that is all right. In fact, PG-13 suggests that nudity without a sexual content behind it can be pg-13. Just don't stray there in this guild, please.

*A kiss or two are fine
*Drugs are okay, guns are okay, violence to some degree is okay. Avoid too many bloody descriptions
*Cursing is okay. Sexually explicit words are okay, too.
*Drinking is okay, etc....

Things that are not Okay
* Sex or serious making out
* Nudity in relation to sexual content
* Torture (slavery outside of this is all right up to a point)
* Too many bloody scenes

Signing Up

So, you've gotten here. This is only for people who want to send in a request to join. This is so simple that it's not even funny. Here's what you have to do. Below is a list of topics that are pretty much open ended.

What you have to do is PM me with a 500+ word roleplay piece based on one of those topics. Don't worry, if you're confused, I will explain more in a moment.

Topics

1. Vampires
2. A fantasy world under siege
3. The attack of flying monkeys
4. Another topic of your choice
5. Any of the current RPs in the guild.
6. A poem will do, even, as long as it's 500 words
7. A story you've written

(More forthcoming)

Now that those are up there (regard number 4 carefully), let me explain exactly what you must do. Out of your brain, you have to pull out 500 words about that topic. It has to be coherent and make sense, and it must also have description in it. In other words, pretend that you're roleplaying on the topic you've just chosen, and you are about to make a long (and I mean LONG) post. Then, write it.

Remember, you are being tested with this on how well you role-play and how well you can manage plot and characters. That's all there is to it. Either I or one of the other moderators will be looking at it, reading it in great detail, and making up their minds based on that. Honestly speaking, I know that, if you're a literate RPer, you can do it. We will not take points off for Typo The Demon, but if it's consistently poorly written, then we will.

If you have questions, feel free to PM me and ask. That's what I am here for. Whining is okay, too.

Now, if right now, you're thinking that you can't, try! I encourage everyone to try. Maybe you won't get accepted, but even then, you'll have this experience behind you. smile

Here's an example of a 500+ word post, written by Exaggio. Let me fill you in first. This is from a role-play that we're in right now. The characters are in an Inn and they've encountered a dragon. Yours doesn't have to be that long, but it can be, if you want it to. We look for quality as well as quantity. This post has a bit of both. smile

Exaggio
The room was bathed in almost complete darkness as Ivan extinguished all but a single flame from the lanterns in case they were to need it. The four of them stayed quiet as they heard, closer this time, another cry from a dragon.

Peering through the hole in the roof, the figure looked through to see the great beast circling above and knew that the dragon had already caught their scent.

Recalling what he had learned in the academy, he broke the other two lanterns and poured the oil inside them all about the small nearly-destroyed building. "Get anything that will burn and set it on fire!" He shouted, "The dragon has caught our scent and will attack us. We may be able to confuse it's sense of smell with enough smoke and escape!"

As soon as Ivan had said that, he lit the building on fire, flames quickly following where the splattered oil was while the other three bounty hunters piled on as much as they could that would burn in this cold and stormy temperatures.

But as soon as they set the building on fire, the dragon attacked. Crashing down into the building and destroying it, the dragon's head came down right on the largest of the bounty hunters. Fire was sent everywhere and started burning, even in the cold due to the oil, on many of the other buildings that made up the ghost town. The dragon threw it's head back, biting off the Jack's torso from the knee's up, flinging his shins with great force into two buildings. The beast then tilted it's head back and swallowed the man whole before turning it's gaze to the now scrambling residents that were in the inn.

By now the fires had caught most of the town on fire and the flames were starting to grow, but the dragon persisted in finding more for it's meal and snatched up the smaller of the two remaining bounty hunters. Alex went screaming as the dragon bit down, severing off an arm before swallowing him in much the same way as their other comrade.

Ryan followed close to Ivanthal as he escaped the burning building and made is way through the rest of the town, attempting to find any place to hide. Glancing back, they saw the dragon through a flash of lightning, followed by thunder. In the brief moment of light, Ivan saw just how big a monster this was. The dragon was much larger than the one he had seen before, it's body had to have been at least one hundred feet long, probably quite a bit larger since the beast wasn't extending to it's full length.

Sprinting down the small road that made up the main avenue of the town, the two made their way to another abandoned building, one where the flames had not yet reached.

"I thought those creatures were only in legends!" Ryan exclaimed as they closed the door behind them and leaning against it, "What the hell is a dragon doing here in the first place?!"

There was panic in the man's voice as Ivan was wondering much the same. He looked out a nearby window only to see the dragon fast approaching. It seemed as though the dragon, after realizing the rest of it's meal had escaped had swiped at the rest of building that used to be the inn, sending even more cinders of burning wood into even more buildings, catching just about the rest of the town on fire.

"Escape through the back door!" He shouted, thinking fast as he turned around and started chanting the words to a spell.

Just as the dragon swiped through the roof of what was actually a tavern, Ivanthal released the spell he was casting. A brilliant blinding light escaped from his now extended hands. He thought that because the dragon seemed to be a night-hunter, it would be particularly weak against bright lights. The big red beast reeled back and let out another blood-curdling screech while in it's blinded fury, started stomping about and flapping it's wings.

Ivan quickly followed Ryan out the back and into the storm as they fled the now decimated burning ghost town and a furious dragon in their wake. They could hear the magnificent creature crying out in anger as it grew smaller as the distance between them enlarged.

Ryan was in a panic and Ivanthal quickly caught up to him. The storm was beginning to lighten up a little which made it easier to navigate. Climbing a hill, they spotted a building in the distance. "Come on!" Ivan shouted, "That dragon is going to be incredibly pissed when it resumes it's attack, and unless you want to end up like your partners, I suggest you straighten out your head on you shoulders."

Ivan knew that if it wasn't for the fact that there were others seeking this powerful artifact, he would've left this other hunter to end up like the others. For all he knew though, was that the criminals as well as the archaeologists could be dead thanks to the dragon that was behind them.

Glancing back, Ivan could see the huge beast take to the skies once more, leaving the town nothing more than a bright glow on the horizon from the fires, and saw the dragon moving their direction. The ground was muddy from the rains and quite slippery too, but as he saw the beast approaching, Ivan and Ryan dove to the ground, hoping the dragon wouldn't see them in it's blind fury.

They were somewhat relieved when the red dragon passed over them without as much as a shriek as it headed to the building in the distance. The only thing that could be made out from this distance was that the building was tall and had a light on in one of the upper areas.

With the immediate threat gone, Ivan and Ryan got to their feet. "We should seek shelter over there." Ryan stated.

Ivan knew that even with the storm subsiding, they wouldn't have a chance out here, especially with such a great animal lurking about the skies, seemingly upset about it's main meal being lost. They would be basically following the dragon to towards the light they saw, hoping that was not the lair of the huge beast and instead it had just decided to give up on them and search for an easier meal such as sheep or other larger animals.

Ivan nodded toward Ryan as the two began trudging through the mud and lightning rain towards the building with the solitary light.
