Quote: Mars, the subject most likely colonization. But what type of colony will be? Most likely small, ran by military personnel(or like), and odds are it will be dependant on Earth sent supplies in some way or another, not because of the technology for say, but human nature and politics. I don't believe any nation will send a substantial civilian population if any to Mars. Why? Look at the history books, colonial era and what happened to those colonies. How many are still under rule of their mother nation? I think this idea isn't too far of from the truth sadly enough. sweatdrop

The thing is, though, we WILL need more space and resources in the near future. I'm certainly hoping Martian colonization will happen soon.
The Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson explores a lot of these ideas -- it's a fantastic read.

I think it'll be more like Total Recall in that there will be colonies for mining/procuring resources to be sent back to Earth. Then again I think in the future it'll be more like Firefly and it's wild west type feel of colonization and planets, than Star Trek's vision of everyone working together and all visiting new worlds.
But that's just me.
