I need someone to talk to, or someone to talk me out of it. I started cutting myself a while ago, and I'm trying to stop. I've talked to my youth pastor and prayed about it, and every person in the world that cares about me has asked me to stop. I think I've got it under control, but I'm afraid that it might develop into other self-destructive habits, and I don't want that. I know that it's hurting my relationship with God, and that it's not good for me either. I just need someone who can explain why it keeps happening. I've promised people that I'll stop, and I'm doing pretty good with keeping those promises, but every now and then, I slip up. Help?

Hey, if you need somebody to talk to, you can PM me. I can even do the text message PM thing. I have a couple of friends who used to cut. They tell me that they constantly have urges to do it, like it's addicting or something. They've managed to pull out of it, so I'm sure that you can, too. Just keep praying about it and whenever you get an urge, turn it into something else. One of my friends got a little pocket New Testament. Every time she got an urge, she would pull it out and read a chapter. It helped her conquor her urges and brought her closer to God.

We're all here for you, and you can talk to any one of us at any time. I'm immensely proud of you because you've recognised that you have a problem and you're trying to stop. As was already said, many people who cut find it to be addicting, which may be why it's hard to stop. A lot of times we have trouble letting go of the things that we find enjoyable in some way, even if it just gives us a moment of pleasure. That's how it is with people who drink or do drugs, or habits like talking about people behind their backs. It's also really like that with sinful behaviors like lying. If it benefits people in some way, they don't want to give it up. I think it's part of our "all about me" sinful nature. Getting yourself closer to God and His wants can really be helpful. I think that pocket Bible idea is a really good one, and maybe you should give it ago. And any time you just need to talk about anything, we're here for you.

[quote="someoneolderthanme] The first step of stopping is recognizing there is a problem
Just remember, even if you don't think you have anyone to talk to, God is ALWAYS there. ALWAYS.

If you need someone to talk to, I'm also here. I used to cut... I don't any more. Like Venat said, God is ALWAYS there. Try praying when you get the urge to cut... because if it's for a reason (shame seems to be a common one) it makes it easier to pray.
Also, Jesus bled so we don't have to. That's the whole point of the Christian message.

Thanks, guys... I found it easier to not cut when I start to think about the whole bleeding thing that V.2 mentioned, and I'm probably going to try the pocket Bible thing.
