Erk
Soren woke up to see light cracking through the curtains in his room. He sat up slowly, blinking several times before drowsily getting up in bed. He went to the window where the light was so bright that it formed an almost eerie glow. He drew back the curtains to see that the ground was painted white.
Mist and Rolf were down in the crystal white snow, making sculptures with it. Soren sighed, and rubbed his temples, the brightness of the pure snow was too much for his eyes. He went about getting dressed and then headed down the stairs to the mess hall where he saw the rest of the Greil mercenaries were already eating breakfast.
“Wake up late?” Boyd asked as he wolfed down his breakfast. “In a few minutes I was about to eat your breakfast!”
“Well pigs must eat all the time no?” Soren countered coldly as he passed by. He went over to where Ike sat discussing something with Oscar.
“Good morning Ike, Oscar,” he greeted them appropriately.
“You seem slightly less cheerful today,” Ike joked. “I’m guessing you’ve seen the snow?”
“Naturally,” Soren replied in his usual tone. “I loathe this time of year.”
“Rolf and Mist simply adore it,” Oscar said. “But Rhys hates it as well. Cold weather and all.”
“I dislike the snow. It’s too bright,” Soren said. “It’s too…I don’t know how to describe it really. It’s just not normal.”
“Well that’s two things you have in common with the snow.” Shinon sneered. “Both extremely pale and both not normal.”
“Put a sock in it Shinon.” Ike ordered his bowman who seemed to growl at his commander.
“Soren!!!!!” Mist and Rolf ran inside calling the sages name. “Come out and play with us!”
“I cannot take part in such foolishness.” Soren said in his normal manner.
“Aw come on!!!” Rolf begged.
Ike got up and smiled. “I think we should all go outside ne?”
Soren looked away angrily and grumbled. He wasn’t good at saying no to Ike. “Fine but only for a few minutes then I have paperwork to attend to.”
“Yay!” Mist exclaimed. “Come on let’s go everyone!”
Shinon grumbled as well, and Rhys paled at the thought of being in the cold. The others didn’t seem to mind.
“Ike is this really necessary?” Soren asked as the blue haired boy nudged him along.
“Come on Soren it’ll be fun. After all it’s the day before Christmas, can’t you be a bit joyful?” Ike smiled as he spoke to his tactician.
Soren crossed his arms as they went outside in the bitter cold snow. “How can I spend my time on such foolishness when we could be attacked?”
“You say that every year and it never happens.”
“It could one of these days if we aren’t paying attention.”
“It never will Soren,” Ike assured as Mist called over to them, beckoning to help make a snowman. “Try to be happy just for today?” He looked at him with pleading eyes.
Soren sighed. Even he, the grinch had a soft spot for his best friend and tried honestly to have a good time but he always had the feeling that blood would stain the snow.

That night Ike and the others had gathered about the fire which lit up the entire room in a warm yellow glow. Their newly cut and decorated Christmas tree stood tall in the middle of the room.
“Today wasn’t too bad was it Soren?” Ike asked.
“Not entirely terrible as I expected it to be.” Soren replied practically.
“See everything’s going to be fine like every other Christmas!” Mist chimed happily. “I can’t wait until we open up each others presents tomorrow morning!”
Ike smiled at his sister. “You had better go to be though Mist. You too Rolf. It’s getting late for children to be up.”
“Yes brother!” Mist gave him a small bow.
“Alright Ike,” Rolf agreed as the two kids headed upstairs.
Soren got up. “I will be retreating to my room as well. Good night Ike.”
“G’night Soren.”

The next morning Soren awoke to the same eerie bright light around his window. He sighed, and just as he had the previous morning he opened the curtains up, expecting to see bright white crystal snow. Instead he caught sight of scarlet red blood staining the innocent white snow, while several bodies lie on the ground, scattered and bloodied. Soren could tell who they were even from up above.
Mia, Boyd, Oscar, Shinon, Gatrie, Rhys, Titania.
He thanked the goddess Ashera that Ike was not among the dead bodies in the cold snow. He knew it…he knew something bad was going to happen. He just knew it.
Soren hurried down the stairs to the hall where he saw Mist and Rolf, huddled up in a corner scared to death.
“S-soren…” Mist breathed shakily. “Thank Ashera! I thought that the bandits might have gotten you in your sleep…thank goodness they didn’t.”
“Where’s Ike?” Soren asked in concern.
“Brother…” Mist said, tears gathering in her eyes. “Brother is by the Christmas tree!” She began to weep uncontrollably.
Soren swallowed hard before he went to the other room where the Christmas tree was. Blood trailed it’s way into the room and led right in front of the Christmas tree where Soren found Ike.
“I-Ike…” Soren dropped to his knees, as a loss. A single tear trickled down his abnormally pale face.
In Ike’s cold, lifeless hands was a small gift with the words ‘To Soren’ etched on the wrapping paper. Soren who was trembling reached out and grabbed the small package and carefully unfolded the wrapping paper to reveal a small box. Tenderly, he lifted the top to reveal a letter and something else that was wrapped up.
Soren first opened the letter, his hands shaking and unsteady as he sat next to Ike’s dead body.
Dear Soren,
The mercenaries and I have all thought of something we wanted to give you. So this is from all of us. We hope you really like it!
-With the most love and respect,
Ike, Shinon, Mia, Gatrie, Rolf, Mist, Boyd, Oscar, Rhys, and Titania

With the signing of each name was a small doodle by the person. At reading this Soren had trouble keeping his emotionless mask to stay upon his face.
Setting aside the card, he picked up the small box that was left unopened. He carefully opened it up and revealed that inside was a silver locket.
Soren gingerly picked up the locket and held it in his hands, staring at it for a moment. Then he clicked it open and saw that inside was a picture. A picture of his family. A picture of the Greil mercenaries.
With that his mask slipped off as he could no help but let a small smile cross his lips and tears of both sadness and joy trickle down his cheeks.
That was both the best and worst Christmas of Soren’s life. It was the last time he ever saw snow as well. It never snowed after almost all the Greil mercenaries died. He always vividly remembered that day and how when the sun had almost gone down he had stood by the graves of his comrades. He had stood there, with the crisp winter air chilling him to the bone, the silver locket hung round his neck, and his hand faced towards the sky as the last snowflake he would ever see gently drifted onto his palm.

Nils
Precious Gifts

It started as a simple, childish game, with the prize being the right to a wyvern rider’s affection. The two competitors had their eye on the prize, both madly in love with him.
They kept their distance, though, afraid to offend their object of affection, afraid to fall out of his graces. And so, the two lingered back, both dropping hints in their own manner.
The hints were obvious, but didn’t seem to affect the wyvern rider in any way. Hope was beginning to fade, as their journey was getting closer and closer to the climax.

And still, they never faltered.

One day, one of them started a conversation with the other...

--

The snow fell softly to the ground, muffling any sounds with a blanket of white. Night had slowly settled in, claiming any last speckles of light around. Most people have already retreated back to their tents, to gain some precious sleep.

One was still awake.

Legault leaned against a tree, using the branches as cover from the falling flakes. His violet cloak was wrapped tightly around his body, preserving his body heat so he wouldn’t freeze. He exhaled once, his breath coming out in one long, cloudy strand.
“Where is she...” He murmured softly to himself, irritation growing with every passing second. The thief called her out for a reason, and she still hadn’t arrived!
“I’ll wait one more minute, and then I’m heading back in...”

“You called me, Legault?”

He turned around suddenly, towards the new voice. A small smirk grew on his face. “You certainly took your time...”

The girl, Priscilla, stepped forward more, a soft blush on her cheeks. “I-I’m sorry... I forgot...”

Legault shrugged his shoulders. “Eh. Whatever.”

She fidgeted slightly, her fingers fiddling with the fringe of her shawl. “So... why did you call me here, Legault?”

He closed his eyes for a moment, letting the suspense build.
After a few moments, his eyes opened again, and he stepped away from the trunk of the tree. “I’ll make this brief.” He stared into her eyes. “You like Heath.” A bright blush on her cheeks confirmed the statement. He smirked slightly.
“Well, I’m not going to hand him over that easily.”

“... What?” She stared back at him, confusion clear on her face.

He began a slow, steady stride around the troubadour. Step.
Step.
Step.
Step.
Step. Mentally, he formulated the exact words to say. “... You heard me, Priscilla. Do you understand, or do I need to spell it out for you?”

“...”

“... I see. Anyways.” He stopped, whipping around to face her. “I have a... game for you.”

“... A game?” He nodded. Priscilla blinked, still as confused as before. “What kind of game?”

“A gift-finding game.”

“... Huh?”

The pacing started again. He stared up, through the various branches, to the top of the tree. “It’s December 21st. Four days until Christmas. We each have our eye on someone, coincidentally the same person.” He paused for a moment for effect.
“The game will be this: give the best gift to Heath.”

“W-what? I couldn’t--”

“Let me finish, Priscilla.” She fell silent. Sighing lightly, the thief continued to speak. “You’d have until midnight on Christmas Eve to give your gift. It can be anything. And whoever loses this game…” Another smirk came to his face.
“Will have to leave the winner and Heath alone and not interfere with any sort of… development between them.”

It was Priscilla’s turn to smile. “… Deal.”

--

… Or so it went.
So, on that word, the two of them departed for their separate tents, each having ideas swarm their minds relentlessly, thinking of the perfect gift for the one they cared so dearly about.

Morning came, and they acted. Priscilla went to town, purse in hand, to browse the stores for an item. Legault, meanwhile, kept himself locked away in his tent, only emerging when absolutely necessary.

December 24th rolled in…

--

Heath sighed lightly, absentmindedly feeding Hyperion his food. The sun was just beginning to set, the sky painted orange and purple and scarlet red, a bold contrast to the ground’s snow white. Other members of the army chattered excitedly about the next day, anxious to learn of the gifts they would be opening at dawn.

He, however, couldn’t bring himself to speak.
There’s something… off…” He pondered to himself, sighing once more and turning around. The wyvern rider was able to take three steps before he walked straight into someone.

“Oh! Sorry, Heath…”

He looked at the mystery person: it was Priscilla, who was clutching a package close to her chest. “Priscilla! I’m so sorry…”

She shook her head. “No, I’m sorry… I startled you, didn’t I…?”

“… A bit.”

“…”

“…”

“… Heath. I wanted to give you this.” Priscilla said confidently, holding out the package for him to take. With a nod, Heath accepted the parcel. It was small and light, able to fit in the palm of his hand.

“… Thank you, Priscilla.”

“You can open it now if you want…”

With another nod, he unwrapped the present.
Inside was a stuffed doll. It appeared to be handmade, in the image of him. A smile appeared on his face.
“Wow… this is great, Priscilla. I love it!”

Priscilla smiled shyly. “… Do you like it more than Legault’s?”

“… Huh?” He blinked, confused.
What does Legault have to do with this? Unless…
“… Priscilla? Was this… some kind of competition?” She flushed nervously, nodding. Heath frowned. “Hm… then why has he been ignoring me lately?” He murmured to himself. The wyvern rider would never admit it to anyone, but he actually missed Legault and his ways that border-lined being a stalker. It made him feel… he didn’t even know.

“… Heath?”

Priscilla’s call snapped him back into reality. “Priscilla. I’ve got to go.”

“Heath, you don’t have to go…”

Heath sighed lightly. “I know I don’t have to. But—excuse me.” He passed by her, heading towards the tents.
“—I want to.”

--

… If I remember right, this is his tent.” Heath thought to himself.
… Well, here goes nothing.” He cleared his throat. “Legault? You in there?”

There was a slight hesitation, a small rustle, before a reply came. “Mhm.”

“... Can I come in?”

“Yeah.”
Heath pushed aside the fabric of the tent’s opening. Legault was lying on the ground on his stomach, fully clothed, reading a book with interest. He looked up as Heath entered. “Oh... Hey, Heath.”

“Hey, Legault.” The wyvern rider sat on the floor, next to where the other man laid. “I’m just going to get straight to the point here.”

“Hm?” Legault blinked, looking into Heath’s eyes, a confused and innocent expression on his face.

“Why have you been avoiding me lately?” Heath asked sternly, looking back into Legault’s eyes with a gaze that didn’t falter.

The thief only sighed. “... I guess you noticed, huh?” He closed his book with a “slam”, then looked away only slightly, a sad expression on his face.
“... Did you like it?”

“... What?”

“The space. Did you like it?”

“... I-I’m not sure.”

Another sigh. “Heath... I’m going to be honest with you, right here, right now.” There was a new-found determination in his eyes, but his smile was weak.
“I love you, Heath. You... you’ve made me into a different person. And, well...” He placed his hand gently over Heath’s.
“I’d do anything for you.”

Heath blinked, surprised. Legault looked so… fragile, staring at him in the way that he was, as if he were about to shatter. His hand rotated slightly, so he was able to hold Legault’s hand in his own, smiling ever-so-slightly at the light contact.
“Legault...”
Leaning forward, he softly pressed his lips to Legault’s, lingering for only a few moments before pulling away.
“I love you, too.”

--
The next morning rolled around before they knew it. The snow from the previous night had melted away, much to the disappointment to the more playful of the army. The traces of the activities of the night before, the snowmen, the snow-forts, the snow-angels, had all disappeared, as if they never existed.

For Heath and Legault, however, the fun was just beginning.

Rei
A Host Club Christmas

Oh, wow, what a pretty field. Radiant white and fluorescent orange flowers everywhere, not a cloud in the sky. Such a beautiful place. Wait, what's this? Hey, it Amelia, and she's running this way! Waaait, I know what's going on here! The voice thought, bursting into a run. Sure, Rhys wasn't that physically capable, but he had that whole 'energy burst from luuurve' thing going on.

“Oh, my sweet, sweet Amelia, how I've longed for you!” The Priest happily chirped, getting ever closer to the small knight.

“Oh, darling Rhys! I always knew that it was meant to be!” The Knight skipped over to Rhys, meeting him in a tight embrace, which lasted for about one minute straight, when it was immediately interrupted by a shout that pierced the tranquility like a spear into a generic soldier.

“RHYS! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!” was cried, causing Rhys to flinch, and quickly release Amelia, pushing her to the ground,. As Amelia landed in the flowers, a purple and orange streak ran over. “Rhyyyyys. Why are you with this little greenhorn? I thought what we had was special!” she said, tearing up at the thought of losing her dear Rhys.

“...Greenhorn? I'll have you know, I'm a GENERAL, and I'm MORE than capable of showing you up, you sunset eyesore.” Amelia retorted without missing a beat, and tensions were flaring.

“You wanna TRY that, shrimp?” Mia shouted, almost with fire in her eyes.

“SURE! RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW! WINNER GETS RHYS!”

“Alrighty, then! Not a duel at dawn, but it's sure to be good!”

Rhys panicked. The two loves of his life were about to tear each other apart. Sure, Amelia was a General, but Mia was a Trueblade, a swordsman without peer. Although he wanted to see an epic battle like this, he'd have preferred to see it between an ally an enemy, not his friends.

“Both, of you, please stop!” He said, making sure the pair could hear him. “Can't we all just get along?”

The two mistresses of war glanced at each other, and then broke into happy giggling, synchronizing their speech like twins. “Sure, Rhys! Anything for you!”

Rhys could practically feel the elation in their voices. SCORE! I got TWO girls, each are awesome! This is the best thing that could ever happen! Then, like before, his mood got burst, rather violently.

“Judgement!” a voice called, causing beams of light to fall from the heavens, killing the moment, and putting the trio in combat positions. Just as they all got spaced, one bolt struck Rhys, forcing him to his knees. “You know, for a holy man, I'm seeing a lack of faith to one woman.” the voiced was now booming, shaking the ground on which Rhys sat.

“Heh. Why should I be surprised, though? The Churches are usually a bit crazy anyway. Mine was about the revival of some girl, yours is led by a psychopath. Whatever...” As the speaking ended, so did the booming, and a scarlet-haired man with angel wings descended from the sky.

“No. NO! Not YOU! Anyone but YOU!” Rhys shouted, sounding as if he was about to die.

“Ah, shut it, you wimp. I'm not here for you.” the angel, now seen to be wearing a regal suit of black and white, said, with a slight chuckle.

“Well, then, why are you here?” the Priest said, more concerned now.

“Again, shut up. Just lemme do my business and get out of here.” Rhys shuddered as the angel pulled out a sword with his right hand, and a crystalline shield appeared on his left. “Oh ladies! Your angel has arrived!” the man said, striking pose you'd see commonly with a knight in shining armor.

... No. Aw, come on! That's not fair!” the white-robed man whined, forlorn to lose his loves.

“Hey, all's fair in love and war. This is love... at least kinda maybe.” And then he bursted into song.

“We're no strangers to love!” the angel sang.

“You know the rules.” Amelia chimed in.

“And so do I~” Mia retorted.

“A full commitment's what I'm thinking of.” Amelia proudly said.

“You wouldn't get this from any other guy!” the angel slyly replied.

“THAT'S A LIE! ZELOS IS A PLAYA! DON'T LISTEN TO HIM!” Rhys shouted, trying to snap his friends out of their enchantment. But, he was simply drowned out.

Rhys could do nothing but watch as his women were lifted into the sky, never to be seen again. “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

--

And he woke up.

“Aw, man, what a dream. That was terrible.” Rhys moaned, turning on his other side to look at the clock, which was blaring Rick Astley's 'Never Gonna Give You Up.' “Ugh. Rickrolled by a clock. Could this get worse?” His eyes wandered over to the date on the digital clock. “WAIT. THE 25TH! IT'S CHRISTMAS! WAHOO!”

Rhys leaped out of bed, and ran out of his room, across the hall. With a shout of 'FALCON KICK,' he opened the door. “AMELIA! WAKE UP! WAKE UP! IT'S CHRISTMAS!” He shouted, hopping onto her bed, and jumping on it as he shouted.

“NO WAY! AWESOME!” the small knight said, removing her blanket and tackling Rhys. “Let's go wake everyone else up!” Amelia cheered as she ran out of her room, into a third, while Rhys entered a fourth. After only a few seconds, the rooms were exited by Amelia with the twins, Nils and Fire Dragon, and Rhys with Huey and Sue, respectively. The group ran downstairs, chattering about the random stuff that you all come to expect from them: crack pairings, current activities, and just all-around random. As they got the the grand foyer, they saw an extravagant tree, brilliantly gleaming in the early morning sun, coated in a multitude of reflective ornaments, creating an astounding light show throughout the room.

“Took you guys long enough. I mean, Rei and I have only been up for a few hours.” Heath jokingly said, lounging in a comfy-looking recliner.

“Yeah, I mean, seriously, guys. Sloooooooow.” Rei taunted, pulling a few presents out from under the tree. “Now, Secret Santa time!”

Immediately, the entire group rushed over to the tree, eager to see what another member of the Host Club had gotten them. Rhys got an automatic nerf gun, with which he almost brought down that expensive chandelier. Sue got a dart board, perfect for practicing her aim, as well as showing off at parties. Huey got a Dress-Up Aidan plushie, causing her ecstatic (and slightly insane) whinnies to echo throughout the building. The twins got a piccollo and violin, and proceeded to play a masterful rendition of that signature tune that we all know Nils for. A slight grimace washed across the group's faces when Heath opened his present to discover a pair of Legault-print panties. Luckily, only Heath was amused (I can't make all of them perverted like that, now can I? Even though we ARE all like that...). Amelia was especially chipper when she received an adorable little bunny doll. All that was left was Rei's present. Everyone burst into laughter as he opened it.

“OH MY GOD! PANTS. WOW.” Rei was left completely speechless, until he heard a small noise from inside them. As he picked up the pants, a puppy peeked its head out.
“THE PANTS PUPPY! It's so cuuuuuuute!” Rei squealed, causing the entire Host Club to fall over laughing. “I'm gonna teach it to do so much stuff! Like roll over, play dead, speak, drool, and all kinds of other stuff!” The room erupted in even louder laughter.

"What's so funny about a pants puppy?" Sue said, causing even more laughter, and shaking the house a tiny bit.

"Well, you see, my little nomad..." Huey began to start.

"NO!" Huey was stifled with a combined shout between Rei, and the twins. She was also tackled to keep her mouth shut.

"Awww, now I REALLY wanna know..."

ENTRY 4: Queen Melethia Dagon

Melethia
It was Christmas Morning. There I was sitting in a tree. I had a gift for someone. His name is Masanori Sakazaki. I liked it better when he said his name was Leonard or Leo for short. Ah who cares I still call him Leo. Anyway, here I am thinking about how am I going to do this. It then hit me. I knew there was something I could do for him and my gift. I jumped from the tree and ran back to the castle. I grabbed the one thing I knew would make things just go great.

When I got to the castle there was a big party. There was a big crowd. I pushed my way into the crowd, but I got stopped by someone. It was Rei, or I think it is. I know it was his face, but he had red hair.

"Hi there lovely madien." He said.

"Rei what are you doing?" I asked.

"I'm not Rei," He stated, "I'm Zelos."

"Ok Zelos," I sighed a bit before contuning, "Why did you stop me?"

"I saw you and I saw a little gift. Is that for me?" Zelos/Rei asked.

"No," I said bluntly, "Now leave me alone." I left before he said any more. As I pushed through the crowd someone else stopped me. This time it was Tibarn.

"Oh hi Tibarn," I said with a small smile.

"Hi there Melethia." Tibarn's eyes then went to the gift I was holding.

"The gift isn't for you Tibarn." I said.

"Awww." Tibarn made a bit of a frown.

"Don't worry." I said. "I'm sure Ayra has something for you."

"Oh your right I should see." He said flying off. I got my way through the crowd. I frowned when I saw who was looking at me. It was Soren. My heart sank a bit.

"Melethia..." He said

"Soren..." I said back. I really didn't want to deal with this right now.

"By the look you are giving me," He stated, "I doubt the gift is for me."

"It's not." I said. "But I do have something for you. Check under the tree."

"How do I know you aren't lieing?" He asked.

"Because I care." I said. He looked at me for a bit before walking off. I wasn't lieing when I said that. I did put Soren's gift under the tree. I just didn't want to deal with him. I made my way up the stairs to Leo's room. He wasn't that social to anyone but me. Maybe that's because they found out he was a cat laguz that lost his power to shift into a cat. He kinda got an ear full from some of the laguz about that. I knocked on the door.

"Leo," I said, "It's me Melethia."

"Melethia I told you to call me Masanori." He said.

"I'm not calling you that you silly kitty. Now let me in." I said. A moment later he opened the door.

"Merry Christmas!" I said shoving the gift in his face. He took the gift and looked curiously at it.

"I didn't get a gift for you." He said.

"It's ok Leo." I said with a smile, little did he know of my plan. "Open it." He opened it and boy was he a bit surprised.

"Is that? Is that what I think it is?" He asked.

"Yep it's the gauntlets you've been wanting." I said.

"Thank you!" He yelled and then hugged me. While he hugged me though. I brought the mistletoe I had on me above our heads.

"Hey silly kitty." I said, "Look up." He looked up and was a bit shocked at what I was doing. While he was shocked. I grabbed his head and I locked my lips with his. He stiffened up and fainted once I pulled us apart. I left knowing I got what I wanted. A kiss from my silly kitty.

Ninian
The Last Christmas

Ninis laughed, watching happily as her children threw snowballs at their father, who was only half-heartedly trying to dodge. With a particularly loud splat, Nils succeeded in causing one to land on his father’s now bewildered face. Ninis smiled as her son’s delighted laughter rang across the field.

Nergal’s bark of a laugh echoed once before he scooped up a giant pile of snow, chasing his young son. Nils fled, smiling and laughing as he ran towards his sister. Ninian grinned as she threw her own snowball directly past her brother, laughing when it hit her father and caused the shaman to drop the snow he was holding down the front of his robes.

Nils fell down, he was laughing so hard, and Ninian took the opportunity to drop a pile of snow on his head. The resulting snowball fight between the two siblings ended abruptly when Nergal picked up his two children and dropped them on top of one of the snow drifts, eliciting more peals of laughter from the happy children.

Sensing that her children were now thoroughly worn out from having played in the snow since the early afternoon, Ninis called for them to come back inside. After dinner and warm baths for everyone, it was bedtime for the two young half-dragons.

“But Momma, I don’t wanna go to bed yet!” Nils protested, pouting.

“You have to, Nils,” Ninis said soothingly. “All little boys and girls have to be asleep when Rathy Claus comes, or else Wrathy Clause will come and steal all of your things!”

Nils shivered and made a noise such as children do when they are frightened, but in a good way. “Waffy Cwaws can go ‘way!” he declared, reverting to toddler speech out of his fear over the man.

“Then we have to go to bed now, Nils,” Ninian chimed in, tugging on her brother’s nightshirt.

“Okay, Nini!”

Ninian and Nils hugged and kissed their parents goodnight, Nils tottering after his older sister to the bedroom they still shared.

Ninis sighed heavily. Nergal looked at his wife questioningly.

“What is it, Ninis?”

“I. . . . I-It’s nothing, Nergal,” she said dismissively.

The shaman frowned slightly, taking a step towards her. “It’s not just nothing, Ninis. What is it? Can’t you tell me?”

Ninis hesitated for a long moment. “It’s just that. . . . I fell like we’re not going to spend Christmas like this, as a family, together, ever again,” she whispered.

Nergal placed a hand on her shoulder. “What do you mean? Why would . . . why would we not be together for Christmas?”

Ninis shook her head, her teal hair falling over her face and hiding her red eyes. “It’s only a feeling I have, like a premonition. That’s all.”

Nergal had no idea what to say. Ninis had had similar premonitions before, and they had always come true. If this time was the same as all the other, then. . . .

Ninis took her husband’s hand in her own. “Let’s— let’s get the children’s presents laid out, alright?” she said, trying to sound nonchalant.

The next morning, as happy as Nils was with his little toy flute, and as pleased as Ninian was with her shiny new ring, their parents were not near as much so. But if Nergal’s and Ninis’s smiled seemed forced, their children did not notice. They did not sense anything to be wrong with their parents.

They did, however, sense that something was wrong when, only a few weeks later, their father took the two half dragon children with him to his old study on a faraway island, leaving their mother behind.

ENTRY 6: Branded Tactician

Older!Soren
Pajama Time

One night in the kingdom of FEF, a frigid cold spell descended upon the land. Not a single creature dared leave its bed that night,
and the air outside was still and calm. The silence left the night undisturbed, as crisp snow flakes drifted lazily from the heavens,
dusting the kingdom in a pale, untainted blanket.
Outside the world was untroubled and cold.
However, no night goes without activity for long.
In the great halls of FEF castle, a raucous howling echoed from corridor to corridor, startling the inhabitants and the few creatures
that had found solace there from the cold. A cacophony of voices spilled from one large room. The Vice Captain's daughter, though herself humble,
resided in an extravagantly spacious room. It was here from which the noise originated.
Sue, a normally calm, tactful girl, usually didn't speak much more than necessary. None the less, she was a very kind hearted,
friendly nomad, and had befriended many in the kingdom.
That night, had seemed particularly icy, and she had found herself wishing for company. Thinking of two of her less outgoing friends,
she had wasted no time inviting the Kilvas girl Vika, and the mature Branded boy Soren, to her quarters. They were joined briefly by the Tactician Alihi,
who had thought a pajama party sounded lovely and rushed off to fetch suitable garb for the occasion.
Vika took a moment to run off as well, explaining that she would grab her own sleepwear in the hopes that she would escape
whatever tortures Alihi would return with for her to wear.
This left Sue and Soren alone, both feeling a bit awkward and fidgeting at the uncomfortable silence. Deciding she had had enough of the painfully
uneasy atmosphere, Sue was the first to break the silence. Turning to her dear friend, the nomad flashed a soft smile his way, hoping to ease a bit of the tension.
"Soren," she began carefully in her crystal clear voice. "We haven't spent much time together since the Halloween incident."
Mildly taken aback, the ebony haired mage nodded, responding with the only word that came to mind, "Yes."
"How have you been, then? What have you been up to?" Sue probed, slightly amused at her friend's puzzled tone.
Soren paused a moment, thinking carefully, before answering, "I've been well, if that's what you're asking."
Nodding, Sue repeated the second question, "What have you been doing?"
The boy stared back, his ruby hued eyes distant and emotionless. He tired at first to stare her down, hoping to unnerve her,
but the nomad was a stubborn girl, and she stared right back, waiting for a reply.
"...Ike," the boy mumbled, averting his gaze.
Sue's eyes widened as the sage uttered his commander's name. Fearing some scandal, she waited with bated breath for him to continue.
Unfortunately, the ever courteous Alihi chose that moment to return. Though her curiosity was peaked, Sue could do nothing but sigh, turning to greet the other girl politely.
It wouldn't be right to put her friend on the spot now. She resolved to ask him about it again the next time they were alone.
Alihi had gotten a bit carried away with her game plan, using her influence as a Tactician to garner supplies for the pajama party.
The bundle in her arms, borrowed from the notorious Host Club, looked more appropriate for a costume party than a small sleepover. Smiling brightly,
obviously proud of herself, Alihi went about decorating the room. She explained that Amelia had enthusiastically donated a few outfits for the occasion
and was hoping to see them on the party-goers at breakfast the next morning.
Finding themselves backed into a corner, Soren and Sue could do nothing but consent to whatever outrageous outfits Alihi and Amelia had selected for them.
They certainly were outrageous. For Soren, Alihi produced a frilly dress that looked more like a waitress' or maid's uniform. To Sue, the Tactician gave a skin tight
body suit that looked entirely uncomfortable, and quite impossible to sleep in. Decorated with red and white stripes and topped with a curved night cap, the ensemble
resembled a peppermint candy cane perfectly. Alihi even went so far as to dress Sue's mount like Rudolf, embarrassing red nose and all.
Though the girl seemed disappointed to find that Vika had left, Alihi seemed pleased enough at the two she'd gotten a hold of. Beaming in satisfaction,
the Tactician bid them both good night and left Soren and Sue alone once more.
"..."
"..."
The awkward silence resumed as the two friends looked at themselves, stunned. Soren stared down at himself silently, looking displeased, but calm.
He'd survive embarrassment. It mattered not what others thought of him. Sue, on the other hand, looked shocked. Peering at her reflection in a large looking-glass,
an expression of pure horror crept across the nomad's usually calm features. Seeing this, Soren searched his mind frantically for a distraction.
Coming to the conclusion that girls liked to talk about their love interests, the boy took a chance. "Shin..." he began, fumbling at the hemline of his
dress.
"What?!" Sue reeled about, looking startled.
"Ah...Well, I wondered if...you would tell me about him...Shin," Soren added hesitantly.
Visibly relaxing, the nomad heaved a sigh at her embarrassing over-reaction. She smiled then, and seemed to forget all about her wardrobe
dilemma, "Shin is..."
Before she could continue however, Sue was interrupted by a shocking entrance from Vika.
The raven winged woman had dashed into the room stark naked, a bundle of clothes in the crook of her arm, and slammed the door shut behind her.
Panting heavily, and looking harassed, the girl leaned against the barrier in obvious relief, sighing as Alihi called out on her way down the hall, "Vika!
I just wanted you to try it on!"
"Thank goodness. I just barely managed to escape...Hey. What are you two wear-- Alihi got you?"
The two comrades just stared, mouths agape, not even hearing the other's words.
"...What? What are you gawking at?!" The raven asked defensively.
Sue was the first to respond, eyes moving up to the Kilvas' face. Pointing rudely, the nomad asked, "...is that a p***s?"

*starts humming Pretty Fly for a White Guy*

Rei's was epically hilarious. x3 Nils' was quite good, too. And Erk's, even if it had sad ending. D:

Erk? I thought it was Luna, but maybe I'm getting them mixed up.

I thought the sudden death thing was a bit too quick for my taste.
Up 'til that point, it was fine, but it just seems like a bizarre way for everybody to suddenly go down like that, especially if Soren heard nothing.

For the most part, though, this contest got a good showing.

EDIT: And yes, Zelos IS pretty fly for a white guy.

I mean, Rhys is all that AND a bag of chips,
but Zelos is all that, a bag of chips, AND a red ribbon.

「 My problem with Erk's was the abruptness, too...It was too sad, but it was still sweet. I just...expected it to be a nightmare. I still feel like that story didn't end, since Soren didn't wake up yet. =/ 」

「 I'll read the rest today. I'm probably going to end up voting for Ninian's though...I caught the gist of it, and it seemed really touching. 」

「 I know I'm not a writer, so mine's far from the best. Fanfictions just aren't my strong point, and I haven't written one in quite some time...I think the last one was before the Seventh Harry Potter book was released. xD None the less, Pajama Party was epic fun to write~. 」
