She shook her head and got up, smiling the whole time as if nothing had happened. "I'm just fine, Bassett," said Odessa with a tight smile. Her diet was meant to be comprised mostly of fear and pain- while it was convenient and meant that she could go on healing someone until they were cured, afterwards it was quite difficult to keep her head on straight. "I'm not tired. Or hungry," she lied, brushing her hand through her curls. "Are you all right[/color?"

"Yes," Bassett replied wearily, "I'm okay. A little shaken, but I'm okay." The soldier, quickly blinking away all bleary-headed pain that he might've absorbed from the deathly poison, didn't notice the lie. He did, though, feel his demon's claws digging lightly into his shoulders as Pey remained hovering over his head like a haunting red cloud. He felt Pey's hair lay on his back, for he was leaning so close, and the tightening grip could mean only one thing: Pey wanted to get out.

Biting back the slight discomfort, the soldier gave an awkward chuckle as he tried to stack his legs underneath him, "I think it's time that I stopped spreading my ill luck around the shop," he began slowly, looking somewhat saddened to be leaving so soon. He wanted to stay and help more, but his demon's control over him was too much for him to ignore. He hoped that his gifts would be enough, "I am going to go back to my Master's home and lay down a bit. Would you need me to drop by later on in the evening?" the soldier glanced over at Edward and Odessa with questioning raised brows.

The demon rose up with Bassett, actually leaning down and roughly hoisting the soldier onto his feet as quickly as he could. He wanted to get out of here. Pey wanted to get away from that demon slayer before he snapped again and tried to kick the wretched thing from that snobbish boorish book keeper. He wouldn't mind it, of course, but he knew his damned summoner would surely strike a fuss and holler back at home and whine about the contract if he got dragged into the line of fire again.

Besides...Pey was hungry.

She forced herself into motion then, traipsing- and it did take so much energy to waltz across the room in that uncoordinated way she had learned by watching the porn channel at home- over to her other jacket. In the pocket was a small box covered in black velvet, and inside the box was Bassett's present for Christmas- it was not as useful as the gift he gave her. Just... an old heirloom, a necklace of the sort that demons wore. Odessa didn't expect him to like it (she nervously opened the box to look at the blood-red ruby, which was small of course because it was a necklace for a man, not a woman, then shut it once more) or even to wear it often. It was a rather personal, silly gift, but one she wanted to give very badly.

"Here," said the princess, bowing as she held out the gift to her friend on both hands. "Please, take it in good health," she added, the traditional demon gift-giving phrase that brooked no returns. Sometimes assassins said it while handing people bombs, but he would know she didn't mean it that way. Pey would, too, hopefully, from the way she held the gift and how she had not allowed them to die.

Bassett raised his brow at the funny way that Odessa got up from the floor and he glanced over at Pey who was inching ever closer to the door and ever farther away from the sword wielding Edward. He starting taking a few steps after her and when she turned around, the soldier was quite surprised to see that the young girl was handing out a small box in velvet as black as pitch. His eyes widened at the unexpected gift and his mouth opened in a small coo of awe. He glanced back up at her, his amber eyes wide as he took the box with gentle hands as if it were a fragile glass sculpture.

In the background, Pey snickered. Of course, he took it in a bad way, and when he saw the necklace from over the soldier's shoulder, he felt a small feeling of dread. There was something about this gift he didn't quite trust.

"Oh..." Bassett sighed opening it carefully, "You didn't have to...Thank you very much Odessa." Without a moment more, he unwrapped the velvet and opened up the box, revealing a delicate necklace within. It's small jewel was the same color of his blood when Pey let it dribble from his mouth. His eyes widened and he inspected it with wondrous curiosity. He had never owned a piece of jewelery himself before because of the war (unless you considered war tags jewelery), so he found that this was quite the gift!

"Odessa, this is great! Can you help me put it on?" asked the soldier, eagerly dissecting it from the box.

She smiled immediately and nodded, saying, "But I did, Bassy," as she tucked the silver clasp together and smoothed the chain against the back of her friend's throat. Sliding back to the other side, her expression took on a pleased cast. "It looks so good on you!"

Then she gave a withering glance to Pey. "Don't break it," said Lilith with a conspiring look to the Nameless demon. "It's a valuable heirloom." As quick as she had appeared, the Queen vanished. Odessa glanced around, a little surprised and reorienting herself. There was another one of those weird blackouts...

"Happy holidays," said Odessa, regaining her smile.

Bassett adjusted the necklace upon his chest so it lay nicely over his collar. As he shifted, it made soft clinking noises as it tapped his button. It was probably the only thing he was given that was worth more than...Well, what Bassett earned in a few months of work underneath his Master's hand. He admired it, looking down at his chest with a big ear to ear smile on his face. "You think it does?" the youth asked happily, taking a few reluctant steps towards the door, "I won't break it. I'll take great care of it, it must be worth so much! I don't think I'm worth it...But...Yeah..." the soldier, almost overwhelmed too much to say anything comprehensive, leaned in and gave her a tender hug, "Thanks again, Odessa. I'll keep it close...In fact, I'll make sure it's safe by keeping it close to my left breast."

The soldier then took the necklace and tucked it underneath his shirt so its cold metal rested against his skin. He should probably keep it secret from his master anyways. Who knows what he would think or suspect if he saw this red ruby gleaming upon his collarbone. It would be best to keep it hidden.

Slowly putting his hand on the door and pulling his jacket in on him as Pey, giving weird furrows of his brows to Odessa, pushed past the door behind him. Before he could do anything else but wave at her, true gratitude in his eyes, his demon had thrown himself out of the Daemonology shop and was quickly speeding down the road.

"Pey! Pey come back!" the soldier shouted out the door and he turned back to Edward and Odessa, giving them an apologetic lift of his shoulders, "Bye! I'll come again soon! Thank you Odessa, and bye Edward!"

With the snap of his jacket around his shoulders, Bassett disappeared underneath the grey sky, unknowing of the burden, the change that he carried with that heirloom upon his breast.
