So, I am very interested in owning a couple of sea horses and wonder if any of you fish keepers out there have any or have owned them in the past. I would like some tips or good books I can get. Thank you!

Are you experienced in salt water fish? Sea horses are extremely hard to keep. You'd need a good reef sett up, and a pretty large tank. gonk

you actually cant keep them in a reef because the flow you need for corals is too much AND some coral can sting of course
they are best kept in a tank that has just them with lots of plants
other fish will eat the food before they know its there
and depending on where you get them they can take dead frozen shrimp and are infinitely easier to keep

and the tank depends on the type of seahorse. some get REALLY big (12 inches) and some dont go past 8 inches
and dwarf seahorse (the ones i want to get) are only 1 inch but i wouldnt recommend them if you wont put in the effort cuz they are the hardest to keep

if you have no experience with saltwater though then you should maybe try something else first
BUT if you are dedicated get tank raised seahorse and do LOTS of research then give em a go

If you've never kept a saltwater before I'd sugest starting with Blennies and Damselfish. They are quite hardy and not too picky about food.
You could also use them to cycle the tank you want to use for the seahorses, but you'll have to take them out once you introduce the seahorses, since the seahorses are very delicate and the species I mentioned earlier are quite teritorial and prone to pecking in my experience.
If you really want a tank mate I'd sugest gobies. They are laidback and generally leave other fish alone. Though often not colorful, they are good cleaners.
And, whatever you do, do not add an anemony, it'll probably eat your fish.

gobies are vicious eaters : O little guys gobble everything up
you not only have to take into consideration the temperament of the fish but its eating habits

you really shouldnt keep anything but seahorse if you want them
and even cleaner shrimp can stress em out
so the only things you can keep with seahorse might be small hermit crabs

and dont use fish to cycle a tank
they might live but its swimming in poison
use a piece of shrimp or just fsh food
