A tan painter searched her way through the dense foliage of the Jungles of Sleep. Florica sniffed along the grounds for a tasty meal to snack upon. Granted, her light coloring served her no justice in the darker forests but her speed on foot helped her along that. As well as her little friend. A small mimicgryph flew above the common sandpainter and landed on a nearby branch above her and squawked happily.
"What is it Besnik? Did you find something?"
Florica lifted her head and looked above her to see what her small companion had found. He simply squawked again and flew off. Florica gave a huff and quickly followed to find a small clearing. She rushed into the clearing and looked about to see nothing.
"Where did you lead me to Besnik?"
"Well I saw something but you were too slow to follow. So it got away."
Florica snorted at Besnik and sat down on her haunches and relaxed her wings. She still had much more hunting to do, she was a large beast that needed a lot of sustenance. A small rabbit and bird was not going to tide her over.

Magus'aul had slithered away just in time; his morning hunt totally ruined by the squakings of a little feathered beast. He hissed disdainfully and coiled up in the undergrowth to wait until the creature would decide to leave, he needed the silence to capture his food. His eyes settled on a large tan form however, and his meal searching was quickly forgotten and replaced by his avid curiosity. The creature appeared to be a dragon from the surrounding area, wandering around, and searching for what he assumed to be a feast as well. He folded his wings over himself, barely breathing as he watched her make her way towards his location; following that blasted feathered squaking machine. His kind were uncommon to the dragon races, he knew that very well from stories his elders had told him as a small hatchling during his earliest lessons. They were uncommon, and rarely seen by any others except those of their own kind. It became evident however, that he would shortly be one of those rare few who were spotted in the forrest. As he watched the dragon following her compainion, his own little friends appeared; scurring all over his form totally unnoticed. The small mice were different from the usual ones that he would eat, colored just like himself, and they aided him in locating things he needed. Very rarely would they help him find food of course. Together, the three creatures sat and observed their visitors, wondering exactly what it would be like meet one of the larger creatures, and what just might come from that meeting.

"Well we aren't going to find something to eat simply just sitting here..."
Besnik flew to a branch close to the great Quetzal and continued to stare at Florica disdainfully. Florica simply closed her eyes and tilted her head to the sky and let the little sun that shone through the tree tops in this thick forest warm her up a bit. She does not normally travel through these forests, granted not a lot of painters did in the first place. Normally common sandpainters stuck to the scrub forest or the canyons. However she loved to travel and explore, which is how she met a few of her other painter friends, such as Zephyiote. Florica continued to sun herself until she looked over to Besnik lazily and thought she saw a flash behind him.
"Besnik...?"
Besnik continued to look at Florica with an agitated air about him and twitched his feathery tail annoyingly.

Magus'aul hissed softly while glaring up in disdainfully at the twitching tail feathers above him through the foliage. If the bird kept this up he would be found out for sure, and then there would be absolutely no chance for him to escape the large dragons notice. He silently ran through all the events that would occur once his relatives had found out. No doubt they would ask for a detailed description of every little thing, and he would be pestered to recap for weeks. He just coiled up tighter; draping his tail over his mice to silence their soft squeaks and their scurrying. He wondered if perhaps the bird would give up, leaving him in peace to start hunting again. The thought sent a small wave of disappointment through him after so many thoughts about the excitement, adventure and possibly danger involved with being spotted. With so many thoughts racing around his head, he didn't notice that the Sandpaint before him was looking right in his direction.

Now filled with curiosity, Florica stood up and headed towards Besnik. She felt it was probably not a good idea for her to explore something in these woods, but why not? She would much rather put herself in danger than have the little mimicgryph get himself into trouble. She stood just in front of the bushes and peered over to see what she thought made that flash.
"What in the he...."
"Quiet."
She continued to peer over and crane her neck when she thought she saw red... Florica lost her balance and fell face first into the bushes. The crash echoed through the hollow trees and sent small bugs and leaves flying in all sorts of directions. Besnik was laughing to the point he almost fell off the branch and into the bush below him. Florica lifted her head and glared at the little creature with a branch stuck on her head. She got up, but hesitated when she felt a tug at her neck and suddenly the pressure was gone.
"My necklace? Where did my necklace go?"
She searched about the bush hurriedly until her search proved fruitless. Florica sat back with a frown on her face. That necklace meant the world to her, and to lose it due to her curiosity killed her.

Magus'aul had shot backwards as soon as he heard the crashing in front of and on top of him, shooting across the ground like a speed demon to avoid getting landed on in any way. Panting several feet away in a new bush, he watched the painter closely while she seemed to frantically search for something; which became clear to be a necklace upon her exclamation. His attention else ware, his mouse friends pulling at his scales caught him by surprise. Looking down at them, the two scurried off into the bushes one at a time, and ran back to him to pester him some more. He looked off where they were running to with a sigh; it was in the direction of the painter, but they seemed rather urgent, so in the end he decided it would be best to follow. After cautiously approaching the specified location, he glanced around, spotting a sparkle under his mice. He shooed them both off immediately, gazing down at what must have been the lost necklace. He shook his head and slowly started to untangle it from the branch that had claimed it from it's owner and resigned himself to his kindness; he would have to meet the Sandpaint after all. Magus'aul mustered all his courage and hooked the necklace with his tail, slithering up to the top branches of the shrubbery and sitting up like a proud cobra, his wings held out behind himself for extra balance. With a deep breath he faced the Sandpainter and spoke as smoothly as he could manage. "Pardon me madam, but I believe that you lost this in my shrub?"

Florica looked up quickly to a voice that was not her companions and quickly saw the large snake-like creature. Her eyes grew in confusion and fright. She has never seen a beast like that on this continent, and why was he being so nice and returning her lost necklace.
Besnik stayed perched up on his branch as the Quetzal came from his hiding place behind the bushes. With a loss of words, he simply watched as he slithered into sight.
"Uh.... yeah. I did."
Still at a loss of words, Florica moved up to him and reached out for the shining peice of gold that was crafted into a heart.
"How did you find it?"

Magus'aul extended his tail towards her slowly so she could reach her necklace and spoke softly. "My mouse companions discovered it and showed me were it was, but they aren't large enough to have gotten it themselves or you would be looking at mice right now." He looked the necklace over as it hung in the air for a moment before she claimed it, eying the gold with the air of a professional. "It is a mighty fine necklace, the gold that it was made from is of a very good quality, it must have been rather scary to loose it as it must mean an awful lot to you." While he spoke, his two little mice climbed up to sit upon one of his coils, sniffing the air towards the Sandpaint and the necklace eagerly and squeaking happily.

Florica grabbed the heart necklace and clung it close to her. It felt good to have it back in her possession. She breathed a sigh of relief and she looked up to Besnik. The mimicgryph got over his surprise and glided down to put the necklace back around Florica's neck.
"Well thank you mice, that was very kind of you."
She nodded towards the excited mice and gave a smile. This large creature looked quite friendly, and at this point looked like it was not going to attack her. She looked back up at the great snake and smiled.
"Yes, this necklace is quite precious to me. And I thank you all very much for returning it to me."
Florica's muscles relaxed more that she knew the Quetzal meant no harm. Besnik stayed at Florica's side and eyed the small mice. Florica shook her head and looked back to the creature. How could she forget her manners?
"My name is Florica. And my companion here is Besnik."

Magus'aul dipped his head politely to her, sweeping his feathered wings back. "My name is Magus'aul, Milady Florica, and these two mice are Dash, the red and Scout, the green." He pased for a moment to straighten himself back to normal, and looked up to her gaze. It is an honor to make your acquaintance, I certainly haven't seen your kind around these jungles before, so this is quite the rare treat." The mice both chirped, scurrying around his back, needing to be stopped by a light compress from his tail; the squeaking didn't stop however. "I noticed that you seemed to be looking around for something, is there anything in particular I might be able to help you find? I do know these forests pretty well and I could probably get you what you need in lightning speed."

How kind of him. Definitely not what I thought he would be like...
"It is a pleasure to meet you Magus'aul. As well as you two."
She nodded towards the mice and looked back to Magus'aul.
"However the only business I have in these forests is a mere meal after a long journey."
Seeing as Florica was quite the traveler, she made various stops to replenish the amount of energy it took for her to fly such long distances. And to meet such a kind creature...
"Not to sound rude or abrupt, but I have not seen your kind at all either. What species are you?"

Magus'aul slowly shook his head. "It's not rude at all, my species isn't common outside of this jungle." He puffed himself up slightly before he continued to speak. "I am a Quetzalcoatl, and we are limited to these jungles and our own homes for safety. My kind are kind of reclusive you see, since our talents could come in high demand at any time." Dash and Scout quickly abandoned Magus'aul's side to investigate the large dragon while their companion spoke, settling his posture down. "What by chance would your kind eat? I know where a lot of things like fruits can be found if those interest your pallet."

Florica listened to how eloquently this serpent-like creature spoke and grasped every word. Since she has never really seen a Quetzalcoatl before, it was interesting to get a brief lesson on how they interact and behave.
"I enjoy all sorts of foods. Though being mostly a carnivore, I was just looking for some small prey. And if I was lucky, maybe a deer. However, Besnik enjoys fruits and such."
Florica continued to stay in the small patch of sunlight while she spoke to Magus'aul. He was quite a sight indeed.
Besnik watched as the two small, different colored mice scampered closer to them. If they weren't familiars, they might be a dinner. However, hearing his companion speak of fruits perked his interest as he looked up to the Quetzal and Florica.
