(i plan on adding art to this later. But enjoy the story for now.)
Intro:
It was the beginning years of the chosen era. Zenpho, the creator of the world and the universe in which it was in, had recently fallen. In the history book of the gods, his story was told. He had given his life to protect the universe from a race called the Leric, lightly translated into the human tongue as "Leeches." 400 years had passed since the event took place; most had been forgotten on the shelves of the old library. The libraries of Atlantis still held the scrolls of Zenpho, but had been forbidden to be read by any living god. Now, because the universe was safe from the Leric, the gods and demons resumed their own conflicts. *************
“No!” A woman screeched and cried. Her cries were soon over powered by the screams of a newborn child. “A girl!?” A man’s voice boomed and he stormed out of the room the woman and child were in. The room was filled with over 50 other people. Each person in the room carried a symbol on their forehead. The symbols all represented that of a God or Goddess. The man who had just left the room in a huff also carried a symbol. His symbol was more important than any other symbol; this symbol had the meaning of, “Almighty.” The title of almighty was given to the most powerful God at the time.
Inside the room a young woman was chained to the bed. This woman unlike the others had a symbol that many others carried; it was the symbol of a demon. Unlike the gods, every demon carried the same symbol except for what they called “The Overlord.” Two long red slits that carried from nearly the hair line down to the eyebrows was the symbol that showed demon. Through all her tears she tried to reach the newborn child that had been laid on her stomach. Her fingers could barely brush against the baby’s skin. The baby looked up at her; she was a little girl with dark purple eyes. She carried the symbols of a demon, but in between the two long slits sat the symbol of a goddess.
“Milord!” A young god had followed Almighty out of the room. “Will a female not be just as good for the job?” “Are you such a fool to think that a female will ever be able to kill enough of these demons to end the wars?” Almighty snapped at the god, speaking with a growl in his throat. “No my lord, however it’s better than wasting all the time and work we’ve put into this. If anything, she’ll be able to kill a few demons and herself while she’s at it, punishing the mother for ever betraying you.” “I suppose that is true. Proceed with the plans then.” The god nodded to Almighty then gave a low bow. “Do you have a name for her?” “Pluto, the name the humans have given to the farthest and coldest planet of this system.” The god bowed again and returned to the room with the new born.
“She will be named Pluto. The plans we have had will be continued.” The members of the room spoke with each other for a moment then nodded. A goddess moved to take Pluto from the woman. A screech came from the woman as the chains bent allowing her to snatch up Pluto. The chains finally snapped and the demon faded from view before anyone could stop her. Pluto’s mother had been badly wounded by the gods in efforts to get her to bare the perfect child for their plans. She was unable to get far from the gods and was forced to run on the humans land.
A young man caught the woman as she fell to the ground. He looked down at her, his eyes were a rich brown. Long strands of long brown hair fell in front of his eyes and the rest was pulled back into a braid that ran down his back. Soft brown dog ears replaced the spot where human ears should be found.
“Please,” She cried to him, “take my daughter, take Pluto and protect her from the gods.” He gave a nod and took Pluto from her arms. Unable to live through another heart beat, she collapsed. She left behind nothing but a lifeless body. His eye became narrow slits as he looked at the demons body. A Snake like symbol on his forehead flashed along with his eyes and the body burst into flames. With a growl he turned his back to the flames carrying away the little Pluto in his arms.

Chapter 1
A few weeks had passed since Pluto’s mother had passed away. Pluto now stayed in the depths of hell with the brown haired demon. The weeks had been like years to her body and mind. She had grown into a young woman. Along with her purple eyes from when she was a new born, she now had long purple hair that she kept pulled back from her face. The symbols that showed her as being a Halfling stayed hidden under her thick bangs that parted off to the right showing one of the slits of being a demon and hiding the rest. She had learned a lot from the man that had taken her in as his own. He was also young, although he did not look it, to a demon he was still but a child himself. His name as Rusty, heir to the over lords powers. Unlike his father, he had a kind heart, unfit for being the overlord, let alone a demon. Pluto, even this young, fit the description of demon better.
“Pluto,” He had a smooth and soft voice when he spoke to her and through all the warmth he carried as he spoke she felt the strength of his inheritance deep inside his soul. “I’m going to take my father’s place today.” Pluto rose to her feet looking up at him. She barely stood chest high to him.
“You’re kidding right?” He shook his head and smiled at her. Her eyes hardened and she gave him a stern look as she spoke. “You really think you’re ready?” Taking a few shy steps towards her, he put an arm around her waist and pulled her close, his lips pressed against hers. Surprised at first, and with shaking hands she reached up and grabbed the sleeves of his shirt. They briefly kissed as the flames of hell dancing around them then quickly she pulled away, leaving Rusty to want more.
He nodded to her and a black mist engulfed him. She stepped away from him, the mist slowly falling, revealing him to be dressed in a charcoal black set of armor. The armor was spiked like some sort of great dragon, the helmet ever carried the face of a dragon, though the eyes, his eyes could be seen, filled with a black hate. As if the air behind him had torn like paper a portal opened behind him. The walls of the portal danced like the dark flames of hell. Through this portal was a throne room, and in the throne a man entirely cloaked and hidden like he was part of the throne in which he sat.
Pluto gave him a smile; she knew that she wouldn’t be able to stop him. Rusty nodded in return and turned his back to her and walked through the portal. His hand could be seen closing over the black blade that sat on his back as the sealed its self shut.
Flames licked against Rusty’s armor as he reached the other side of the portal. He eyes narrowed behind the visor of his helmet and his blade shuddered with power.
“Overlord!” He roared, “I am here to challenge you and take your place as overlord of the demons.” His eyes burned with hate as he stared at the father that beat him as a child. The overlord simply returned his gaze with calm eyes. He rose from his throne and walked down the steps that his chair stood on. Females rose to follow him as he moved but he waved them off except one. She attached her nearly naked self to the overlord and stared at Rusty with a cold hate. Her body was a beautiful bronze with soft round breasts and brown curly hair. A chain of gold wrapped around her waist with a soft sheer golden fabric that hung over it to cover legs. She is one of many wives to this overlord, something that bothered Rusty. He promised himself he would keep to one mate, a mate he could love unlike his father.
All of the eyes looked at him with intense hate. Rusty was the oldest of his brothers and the only living true blood in his family other than his father that was still alive. They also knew he had been preparing for this fight and that things would change if he won. All of these women would lose their status and become just another demon in the bunch. Rusty had no heart for these women; none of them were his mother. She had been killed a long time ago by the one currently clinging to his father’s arm. The beatings weren’t hard to forget, he was going to make her regret those later. For now, his father needed to die.
“To the death then, I will show you no mercy Rusty.” His lips curled into a grinning sneer. Rusty spat on the ground and growled, his dog ears pressing back along his head.
“You needn’t worry yourself.” He suddenly rushed his father drawing his sword as he approached. The overlord pushed aside the female on his arm and met rusty’s sword with a battle axe. They looked each other in the eyes rage burning behind them. Rusty found himself over powered by his father and forced back. He went with the motion to jump further back and away from his father’s quick swings. The weight of such an axe was nothing to a demon of his strength. Rusty had a similar advantage to his father with his two handed sword.
A crowd had started to form in the not too far distance, watching the two demons fight. They stood at a ready to defend themselves from any stray attacks. They had no time to concern themselves with the well beings of others. Flames engulfed Rusty as his father made a new charged in. They cause him no real harm until he caught an axe blade with his sword and fell back. His father had experience over him, and a lot of it. His sword was pushed to his chest and the large battle axes blade cut into his pauldrons like butter. His father’s foot stepped down onto the sword and held the squirming Rusty in place while he flicked off a section of armor and part of his shoulder with the axe. Rusty let out a yelp backed by a growl that landed a spiked knee somewhere in the back of the overlord’s leg. With a grunt he managed to twist himself and knock his father off of him. Another blow of the axe came down but a careful move towards his father found him the safety and time to make his own strike up into the overlord’s gut and through his spine.
Enraged the wives of the overlord came running in. Their beloved overlord was losing and they were determined to stop Rusty. He was distracted briefly by the women. His father was given time for another swing and Rusty found the axe sinking into his own gut. He wasn’t sure how but his hands managed to find a grip on the axe and force his father off him. He had no time to recover as the wives came down on him, claws outstretched and beating on him. They tore at his armor, ripping it off and tossing it away. He closed a hand around the neck of one of the females. She screeched horribly at him as he crushed it until her body became limp and tossed her away. She would heal and return later, but for now, she was out of the way. The women were suddenly knocked away and rusty was lifted from the ground. He growled weakly at his father who was barely alive. The overlord was determined to take Rusty with him to the grave. His own sword was turned against him. He couldn’t let this happen, there was too much to be done still. Desperately he grabbed a knife from his side and drove it into the overlords forehead as his own sword cut deeply along his cheek. The overlord became still and Rusty was dropped, leaving him to fall to his knees. The overlord fell on top of him and slid down his side to the ground; Rusty grunted and tried to force himself to stand.
The women resumed efforts to attack Rusty but were blocked by a force of demons, ready to accept Rusty as their new overlord. Powers from his father seeped into him, but healing would take time, time he didn’t have.
***************
For the first time in Pluto’s short life, she was alone. She reached behind her back and drew two forearm long blades from under her clothes. Quietly she danced with her blades, moving them smoothly through the air. Behind the smooth movements she carried strength, just as Rusty’s voice did. Gradually she picked up the pace of her movements, her clothes snapped in response to her movements. Over the weeks she had spent with Rusty, she had learned a great deal on how to defend herself. She figured now was a good time to do a little training of her own.
Blades cut through the air as she started to move, she was dancing along the ground. Each foot placing was firm and strong, even as she passed through the flames of hell. Still unable to see clearly through the flames she hit something, her eyes widened as she felt her weight forced to shift back until she was thrown away. With a thud, she hit the ground, both blades skidding away from her hands. The flames grew larger as a man stepped through them. He carried on his forehead the symbol of Almighty. His sharp blue eyes stared down at her, reading into her soul.
“Pluto, you’re coming back home with me now!” He seemed to snarl at her. Using her hands and feet Pluto began to push herself away from Almighty. She could feel the energy radiating off of him, the amount of power he had scared her. Since she was but a new born when she saw him last she did not know that he was her father. He walked up to her, his long black hair falling over his shoulders. Gold earrings hung from his right ear, a chain attached all of them together and they reflected the flames of hell that surrounded the two. His hand closed around her neck, she gave a gasp and began to struggle as he lifted her from the ground, choking her. She had no chance of escaping from his grasp. Even her strongest kicks at him seemed to have no effect.
“Almighty!” Pluto heard Rusty roar from behind her, the roar was so powerful she could feel it in her chest. Almighty gave a grin to Pluto and threw her away. He turned his eyes to Rusty. Pluto quickly turned to see the wounded rusty, barely standing. Black blood slid along his sweaty skin and dripped onto the ground. He held a long, black, two handed sword over his left shoulder. His entire body shook with every breath, his armor chattered in response to his shaking. The flames of hell swirled around him, as if they were nurses trying to check his wounds. “She’s not yours to take.” He snarled through the blood in his mouth and throat.
“Yes, she is. She is my daughter, there for my flesh and blood. With you being overlord you must give her up, unless you truly do wish to fight for her in that state.” Almighty replied with a smug look on his face. “I’ll fight you any day for her.” He growled and readied his blade. He quickly stepped into a run at Almighty, his eyes flashing red. He was caught mid run with nothing but the air around him, his armor screeched as Almighty raised a hand. He threw his hand down and to the side; Rusty was thrown to the ground making a loud crash as his armor became even more deformed then before. Before Pluto knew it, almighty was on top of Rusty, a long single handed white sword in his hand bearing down on Rusty’s sword. Their swords rattled as they fought to overpower each other. Almighty struck at Rusty, Pluto was unable to see if he had landed a hit, but the ears piercing yelps told her that he had. She ran closer to try and see if she could help. Almighty was easily crushing the poor, wounded Rusty. He was yelping in pain like a hunting dog caught in one of its owners traps. Pluto quickly stepped into a run, long blue claws extending from her knuckles. Quickly skidding to a stop before she reached him, she could now see where almighty had landed his attack. He had a hand deep inside Rusty’s chest, blood pulsing out with his every heartbeat pouring over Almighty’s arm. “Now Pluto, you will come with me or he will die.” “No Pluto!” Rusty jerked to get up, but he was simply forced back to the ground by Almighty’s hand. Pluto looked between the two. Unable to let Rusty die like this she gave a nod.
“Fine, but release and heal him first.” Rusty let out a roar as she finished. Almighty released Rusty, jumping away from him, and then began to cast healing spells over him. Chains made of a white metal appeared and closed around Pluto, bringing her to her knees. Scrambling to his feet, Rusty ran to Pluto, grabbing her and pulling him to her. He kissed her as he spoke to her in her mind.
“When I regain my strength, I will find you and free you. I swear it.” She nodded just as she faded from his sight along with Almighty. Alone, Rusty dropped to his knees, his breath heavy and his body shaking he whispered. “I will not fail you again Pluto.”

Chapter 2
Every day was just another reason to torture Pluto. She had learned her father’s name, but was told she was to never call him but the name, the name was Dagoth. He has set up several powerful gods to train with Pluto, changing them out every day to keep them fresh and her tired. She fought for her life every day and night; they never gave her time to rest. Her eyes soon became clouded from the adrenaline raging through her blood. Any creature that stood before her, demon, god or human soon faced certain death. There was fewer and fewer gods that were able to face her. Those that were still able to face her, fought with her until she passed out. Any who were unable to fight with her until she was unable to fight would face death, unless fortunate enough to be rescued. Those that were rescued were placed into emergency care since simple healing could not mend their wounds.
Today was no different. Except, this god was far stronger then her. Almighty was pleased; she could use this one again to train her. A dagger sat in Pluto’s hip and wasn’t going to come out any time soon. Blood dripped down her leg leaving a trail as she moved about. Her eyes were completely blurred over. She was shaking already, completely exhausted and only standing still because of the adrenaline training. Falling to her knees would mean more beatings, more pain. Like this, she could still fend off some of the pain. But it would not be today, her legs gave way and she collapsed to her knees. The god walked up to her with a grin on his face and ripped the dagger from her hip, bringing a rather large chunk of muscle. For him though, it had been a foolish move. Tears of pain fell from Pluto’s eyes but her blade moved and the god soon found his upper torso removed from the rest of his body. He fell back and the legs crumbled. He cried out in agony until Pluto finished the job with a blade through his head.
Almighty let out a growl and flagged in a large group of gods. They went in without question. They knocked Pluto away from the god that was now dead. She took the hit and used the momentum to get herself further away with little effort. The body was being removed from the training room; Pluto had a chance to tend to her wounds. She started to slowly tend to her ripped open hip. A few of the gods turned their attention to her. She growled when they did but she couldn’t do much more. They came at her full force; she fought them off as long as she could until she could do no more and collapsed. The beatings continued until she passed out completely. They left her on the ground, letting her bleed. Her body was able to recover from it, because of the blood she carried and the magic she had, she would recover, slowly.
They had turned Pluto into a killer. She was lost in her mind that was filled with rage. The training they had been exposed to was used to train the strongest of demons. A little over thirty years ago, the gods had received information on how this training was carried out. Many gods and other species had been exposed to this training. However the adrenaline that raced through their blood caused them to commit suicide or become so lost they fell into a coma. With further studies, they learned that only the demons blood could withstand the constant pressure of being faced with life and death. The natural rage inside their body, aloud those to focus even under great amounts of physical stress. Pluto had been born in hopes to create what the gods called an, “Adrenaline warrior,” yet still be able to control who and what was killed. Of course, allowing the gods to still control this warrior. They had hoped that they would get a new born boy. In the world of gods and goddesses the women were the fighter, and the gods were the intelligence with extreme magical abilities. The gods controlled the havens and so far as they were concerned that should not change. Thus far, the training was going well. With little concern for her well being, they pushed her harder. They were soon forced to call a great warrior of the gods to continue the training since they could no longer keep up.
This man was purely professional with Pluto. He only pushed her to her end because he knew of what would happen if he didn’t. He was far older then her, but carried the same physical appearance in age as her. “Nice to meet you, Pluto, daughter of Almighty.” He spoke to her when they first met. She was barely able to open her eyes at the time. Before fainting she was able to make out long blond hair that was pulled back into a low pony tail and deep red eyes. He wore heavy red armor and a single sword on his left side. Her body then gave way and her eyes closed. She woke in the night; the man was still with her. He was sitting next to her, but a few feet away shinning his sword. He was in easy range for Pluto to attack if she so wished.
“Good morning.” He didn’t lift his eyes from the sword. His voice was rather friendly to her, compared to most of the people she had been present with. The voice was like one someone would expect to find on a high school prep boy. She merely growled at him in response. She had no idea how long she had been exposed to this training, but her heart had nearly faded to nothing. She had given up months ago on Rusty every coming to free her from this hell. “My name is Blaze.” He spoke again to her. He now looked at her as he put away his sword.
“I wouldn’t put that away if I were you.” She gave a snort. Quickly pushing herself from the ground she drew her blades and spun to attack him. He used her motion against her, grabbing her arms he got to his feet and before giving her a chance to react he was behind her. He raised his foot and kicked out her knee, she dropped to her knees growling. A long white tail came out of her clothing and lashed out at him. The blade on the tip of her tail clipped his armor and the pauldrons of it fell to the ground. He smirked at her, impressed then drove his knee into her side. Easily he put her into the ground. One hand held her hands behind her back and the other held the blade of her tail. He dug a knee into her back and his other leg lay over her knees. She hissed and growled wildly at him.
“You probably think you’re a tough little kid don’t you. But ask yourself; out of all the immortals you’ve been fighting, have any of them truly been powerful?” He smirked as she stopped her growls and struggles. He jumped away from her landing softly on his feet. “Your father has ordered me to continue your training. Perhaps we’ll do a little more than that.” Pluto got to her feet and ran at him again.
“I can take care of myself.” She spoke as she slammed him into a tree. Like lightning he moved, snatching the front of her shirt and switched places with her. He put her hard into the tree causing her to lose her breath.
“Do I have your attention now?” He held her there as he asked his question. With a loud growl she swung at him, her claws coming out of her knuckles. He shook his head as he easily avoided her attacks of rage. “They’ve really screwed you up.” She was like the bull chasing the red cape in a bull fight. Her anger completely blinded her from her target. Today he would have to tire her and cause her no harm. He spent all day and night avoiding her attacks before she tired. She finally dropped to her knees panting. A sandy dust swirled around her and she fell into a deep sleep. Blaze lifted her from the ground and carried her into a thick forest. Once hidden in darkness he laid her down.
“Sphinx, its safe here, come out of hiding and tend to Pluto’s wounds.” A small girl came out of the trees. She had shoulder length golden-black hair that matched the color of her dark eyes. Unlike Pluto’s white skin, she had rich caramel tanned skin. Her clothes were white lined with a dusty black rope. Her clothes were more like a fancy bed sheet that was ties closed by a black rope. The markings on her face were that of a demon, but under her eyes were the tears of a Sphinx. She raised her hands over Pluto and started to glow with a gold aura. The aura spread out covering Pluto as well, slowly, Pluto’s wounds healed. Once done she pulled away her hands and the aura dispersed along the ground like the dust along the ground after a brick had fallen onto it. “Well done Sphinx.” Sphinx looked up to Blaze as he spoke with a bit of a frown.
“I healed her physically, but mentally.” She paused looked down at Pluto.” Her mind is a maze that I cannot heal. “Unfortunately, there is no magic that heals some one’s mind, which takes time.” He sighed as he gently ran his fingers over Pluto’s goddess symbol. She woke quickly taking a deep breath in. For once in her life she woke to a friendly face. Blaze had a kind face on him, now that she was calm enough to see it. “Looks like I have your attention now.” “What do you want?” Although tired, the hate was still strong in her voice. Her eyes dragged down over Blaze’s shoulder and to the young demon next to him. “And you are?” Sphinx smiled at her softly.
“My name is Sphinx; I’ve been assigned to heal you by Blaze.” “Since when have demons any good at healing?” She growled, her energy coming back to her. “I don’t plan to stay a demon long; someday I’ll become a goddess so I can heal even the most wounded people.” She was a rather happy little thing; however had Blaze not been there she would have been scared of Pluto. Blaze, with a smile began to speak to her. “There are several demons that are in my training, making efforts to become a part of the havens.” “The havens? Why would you want to even ally with my father?” She controlled her anger now, her curiosity getting the better of her. “A group of immortals, gods and demons, that don’t wish to fight in the war. We are trying to find someone to replace your father.” Pluto began to laugh at them. “And who do you plan to replace him as Almighty?” Sphinx and Blaze stared at her for a moment. “You of course.” Pluto smirked, “Funny,” she replied. Her legs shook like a baby deer’s as she got to her feet. Letting out a strong growl she steadied herself. “I figured you wouldn’t listen to me, so I brought someone else as well for you to meet, or to see again I should say.” There was a spark in front of Pluto then it grew into a flame. She stared at the flame, she knew the flame, but what it meant was a blur in her memories. The flame grew until it was taller than her. In a flash the flames went out, leaving a tall man fully clad in black armor standing before her.
“And you are?” He pulled off his helmet as she spoke long brown hair fell out of the helmet as he revealed his face to her. She saw decay all along the left side of his face. He was missing and eye, his eyelid closed but sunk into the eye socket. Teeth showed through the holes in his cheek, nearly making his mouth wider from the decay. Through all of the vulgar decay he smiled at her. “Rus…” she stepped forward. He opened his arms to her as she started to walk to him. Tears ran down her face, turning red as they broke through the dry blood that was caked on her face. She stopped within arm’s reach of him. “Where have you been?” Before saying anything, he grabbed her shoulders and pulled her to him. Almost instantly the tears stopped and she just stared up at him. She realized how little she felt from his warm loving touch. He looked down at her, using his thumb to wipe away the tears and some of the blood. His arms then wrapped around her and held her close. Pluto did nothing but stare up at the sky. She then stepped away, and slowly turned to look at Blaze. “My father has taken away my ability to love. The little emotion that I did show is my limits. I will help you in killing my father and take his place as Almighty.” Blaze nodded to her. Rusty let out a sad sigh as he watched the woman he loved, simply ignore him.
“Your father has been training you in what’s called adrenaline training.” Blaze began to speak to her. He wanted to make sure she understood what has happened to her. “You probably don’t remember a majority of what has happened, or how much blood is on your hands. When you fight, your mind becomes flooded with rage, hate and the passion to kill.” He paused to make sure he still had her attention. For now, he hadn’t angered her enough to cause her to slip back into the blood raged mind. “This rage was obtained by nearly killing you on a daily basis.”
“I remember some of that.” Her eyes narrowed and she spoke nearly at a whisper. “How long has it been?” She started to growl; her eyes began to swirl like the sky view of a tornado, into a blood red. “Too long,” Rusty spoke, ashamed of failing to protect her. “This is the first time we’ve been able to make a move.” “Makes sense.” She replied. She figured it had been years and left it at that. “Good, then from now on, you will train with Sphinx and Rusty. You are never to call them by name, for the safety of you and them.” She nodded in response. “Let’s get started then, I’m not letting my father get away with it.” “Pluto!” Blaze snapped at her. “You need to stay calm or your adrenaline will cloud your mind again.” She quickly looked over at him. “Today, you take the day off from fighting. You are to protect Sphinx from any harm that may come her way.” Pluto sighed and gave him a nod. Even when calm, her body wanted to fight. Fighting was in her blood now; most of her life had been filled with it. Sphinx stepped up to her.
“I have my own training to do, so I need you to follow me.” Even though she was making a statement, she still seemed to be asking her to follow instead. “Fine,” Her response was quick, she debated being strict with her but decided to let it go for now. “I’ll see you in a week.” Blaze spoke then looked to Rusty. “Rusty, come with me, we need to talk.” Rusty looked at Pluto for a moment then walked off with Blaze. They disappeared into the shadows, leaving Pluto with the weak demon named Sphinx. “This way.” Sphinx started walking towards a human village. With a growl, Pluto followed. She despised humans; to her they were a waste of god training space. Her hate for them not entirely clear to her, she was sure it lay hidden in the blur of her past. “Why to a human village?” She crossed her arms and looked at Sphinx. “Because humans are fragile so I have to control my powers when I heal them.” Pluto couldn’t help but smirk at the comment. This made sense to her, all humans were weak, they weren’t worth healing but Sphinx was right about that. “I guess wasting magic on humans can have some advantages.” She laughed a bit a large grin remaining on her face after that showed her demon fangs.
“I don’t need you scarring them to death. I only agreed to this because lately the humans have been afraid of me, no thanks to you.” In what should have been an angry response, Sphinx stayed calm. She stepped into a large church filled with people and walked to the front. Pluto came into the church but stayed in the back. The priest of the church bowed to her, she returned the bow then faced the audience. She spread her arms out with a soft smile on her face then began to sing. Her voice filled the room, over powering any who spoke. The humans became quiet and listened to her sing. The song she sang had a soft melody that reached the hearts of everyone. They relaxed listening to her sing. Even Pluto couldn’t ignore her song. Pluto leaned against a wall watching her.
Suddenly, Pluto stepped into a run, however she hadn’t reacted fast enough, the song sphinx was singing had slowed her down. A dagger flew past Sphinx’s head; she stopped her singing with a gasp. A line of blood formed along her cheek. Pluto snatched up the man from the crowd that had thrown the dagger and threw him out into the open. Pluto jumped up and over the crowd, the humans al in a panic now as they watched her land in front of this man. She showed her fangs and gave a growl. The humans started to move to the sides of the church clearing the area in which Pluto stood over Sphinx’s attacker. “You humans are so pathetic, attacking something that heals you physically and mentally.” She picked up the man.
“Pluto, let him go.” Pluto growled and looked at Sphinx then glanced at the humans. They were all terrified of her, even the one she was holding. “It’s that demon we’ve heard of!” A woman cried. The humans went into a mass panic. She gave a snort and looked at Sphinx again, dropping the man. He looked up at her, terrified as he dropped to his knees. With shaking hands he cupped them together and thanked her for her mercy. She showed her long white fangs to him then walked away. Sphinx tried to calm the crowd as she spoke to Pluto. “Don’t be acting so rash. These humans have enough to be afraid of as it is.” Pluto glared at her in response to her comment then spoke in an angry tone. “Perhaps you should be telling that to the humans that just tried to kill you.” Sphinx smiled at Pluto.
“Just a warning growl next time alright?” A sigh came from Pluto’s lips as she walked away from the humans and into the back of the church. Once Sphinx had managed to calm the humans down she returned to her singing. Pluto watched in silence, the song was so powerful she could have sworn she saw the magic of her song. Every human closed their eyes and began to pray for ones they had lost and much more. A gold mist filled the room slowly sinking into all of the men and women. This was some sort of magical spell that was coming from Sphinx singing. The mist seemed to be rejuvenating them all, freeing them of all their pains and worries. By the time the song was finished the mist had disappeared, either from sinking into the humans or back into the earth.
The humans all thanked her for giving them relief from their problems. Once the church had quieted, Sphinx walked to Pluto. She had a smile on her face and Pluto couldn’t help but return the smile. The song had even relaxed her boiling blood. Her smile was a bit twisted, yet it still had friendly meaning behind it. She walked out of the church, motioning for Pluto to follow. Pluto followed a little more willingly now, realizing she enjoyed watching over this Sphinx, demon or not. They continued Sphinx’s training by traveling from house to house, visiting anyone who was too sick or too old to make it to the church. Sphinx didn’t sing to them, instead she spent time with them, making tea, hugging and caring for them. She aided them in any way she could then every time, before leaving prayed for them. Pluto couldn’t help but admire her from afar. She was a beautiful young woman with great powers hidden behind a gentle face. Sphinx would be useful to her when she finally went to fight her father and obtain the title of Almighty. Even before that, she knew she would be injured many times just trying to reach him. Pluto continued to plot as Sphinx continued to work. They spent the entire day tending to the humans in the village. There wasn’t any other attack on Sphinx so Pluto was able to rest and think.
They continued to work together through the week. On the third day, they were attacked again. Sphinx stepped between the human and Pluto. “Stop fighting!” She yelled at them. A symbol flashed on the human’s forehead. This was no human, merely a demon with the appearance of a human. Pluto knocked Sphinx out of her way; drawing a blade she caught the demons attack. He screamed in agony as his arm fell to the ground. She then lunged at the demon, making the final blow. The demon was a weak demon and even his best block could not stop Pluto’s attacks. A simple swing of the blade was made and she took his head.
Sphinx covered her mouth watching the body fall then turn to dust after hitting the hard ground. There was a click as Pluto put her blades back into their sheaths. Pluto turned to look at Sphinx. “Don’t you ever get in my way again!” She roared showing her fangs. She grabbed Sphinx’s shoulders and shook her a bit. Sphinx put her hands up in front of her face to defend herself. Pluto threw her down and walked away growling.
Adrenaline was racing through her blood. She tried to calm herself so not to harm Sphinx. This control she had to display was a new event to her, normally anything that got in her way just faced the same fate as the one she was fighting, Sphinx had been lucky. Getting to her feet Sphinx ran to Pluto and hugged her. Her arms trapped at her sides, Pluto calmed a bit and grabbed Sphinx’s arms. “You could of gotten killed, I need you to trust my choices when I fight, if you get in the way of my blade or the attackers I can’t protect you.” “I’m sorry Pluto. I thought it was an innocent human.” Pluto sighed and pulled away. “Don’t get in my way again, I know what I’m doing, I can see things most can’t.” Sphinx gave a nod to Pluto. “OK” Pluto shook her head from sphinx’s response then looked at the ground. She was scared that she may someday actually hurt Sphinx. Now that adrenaline didn’t control her, she cared for Sphinx. “Magus is coming to visit.” Sphinx spoke up, Pluto looked to her quickly. “And he is?” “My boyfriend, he’s training to become a god so he can protect me when I’m a goddess.” Sphinx started to get more and more excited as she spoke. “Alright, I guess we need to find a place to hide so you can be all girly with him or whatever you couples do.” She grinned, and then her eyes went wide as Sphinx grabbed her arm and dragged her into the forest.
They walked for nearly twenty minutes before reaching a river. A man was sitting on a large rock that over looked the river. Part of the rock was in the river and created a gentle whirlpool, an excellent place to rest. Sphinx let go of Pluto’s arm and ran to him. Pluto figuring they deserved some privacy went further down the river to take a break. She sunk into the water and let the current carry her further down. The water washed away the blood from her clothes and skin; she closed her eyes and began to rest.

Chapter 3
Screams woke Pluto from her resting state. She had not allowed herself to fall asleep, just rest and keep guard of her new ally not too far up the river. Springing out of the water as if the water was solid ground to kick off of she ran back to Sphinx. The cries were coming from Sphinx and they pierced Pluto’s ears. Her agony was carrying to Pluto as she begged for help.
Magus leaned over Sphinx a massive grin on his face as he dug his fangs into her neck. Sphinx’s eyes went blank as he began to feast not only on her blood but on her soul. The demon symbols on his forehead began to glow, her soul filling him with energy. His eyes widened suddenly as blood was forced out of his mouth. Pluto had clamped her hand around his neck tightly, and ripped him away from Sphinx. He turned to stare at Pluto letting out a loud hiss. Returning the hiss with a growl, she moved between him and Sphinx. Sphinx slowly sat up shaking madly, her fingers grasping what was left of her robes and pulling them tightly around herself. “Don’t get in the way of what belongs to me Halfling.” He snorted at Pluto. Fangs bared Pluto gave a threatening response.
“Like hell she belongs to you, some boy friend you are. I’ll kill you for treating her like that.” Slowly her left leg slid back and she moved into a fighting stance. Her hands remained open and relaxed as they rose up. She threw a punch at him, easily, he caught it. Letting out a roar he made a swift smooth movement and Pluto found herself up against him. He was leaning over her, his hand on the back of her neck, the other still holding her fist. He had claws digging into her neck. The pain rushing through her body triggered her adrenaline; instinctively this was a life or death situation. Her eyes flooded blood red and she lost herself in the adrenaline. Instantly she freed herself from Magus’ grasp. She drew her blades from her sides and swung at Magus. With a laugh he jumped away from Pluto, easily avoiding her attacks.
In battle, Magus was far greater then Pluto could hope to be in her current state. However, his personality was far more shallow then hers even when she was lost deep in her adrenaline. Rusty stepped out of the shadows looking at Sphinx. He gave a growl then turned his attention to Magus. “This is how you repay me?” Magus growled at Rusty’s remark. “I managed to get you out of the war and you come here and hurt the woman you love!?” His voiced boomed over all of them, Pluto’s attention was even captured by him. “I hardly call taking the woman I love harming her.” He replied with a sly smirk on his face. No longer completely lost in her rage, Pluto ran at Magus, Rusty followed in her steps. Even the two of them combined had no chance of catching Magus. He simply laughed at them. “I’ll be back for you later Sphinx. You belong to me, and don’t you forget it.” With that he jumped into the air and disappeared into himself. Pluto turned to Sphinx to see her in tears. Rusty jumped over and landed in front of Sphinx, wrapping his arms around her, hugging her. “Boyfriend my a**.” Pluto snarled fixing her wet clothing. Rusty’s eyes met Pluto’s and he gave her an angered glare. “He’s changed; I’m guessing the war finally got to him.” Pluto returned the glare, but hearing his response made her sigh and back down. Sphinx continued to sob into Rusty’s arms.
Pluto sank into thought, knowing now that this war was more than a simple squabble but something that changed the people that were involved. The war had to be stopped, this war she had to become involved in so it would stop. Her fingers drew over the sheaths of her blades, then onto the handles. Firmly grasping the handles she stepped into a walk. She bit back the adrenaline that was surging through her from Magus’ attack and forced her to focus. Rusty quickly helped Sphinx to her feet and wrapped new robes around her as they formed in his hands. They followed Pluto, all having an understanding of each other at that point. Pluto from now on would lead them into battle, none would question her choice to fight or stay at peace.
“So your mind is made up now, Pluto?” Blaze spoke as he came out of his hiding place. “Teach me everything you know, I’m going to kill my blood father.” She stared at Blaze with narrow eyes. Although Blaze stood taller than her, she kept her head tilted down as her eyes stared upwards. There was a passion in her eyes, a passion to kill everything in her way. The passion was also the passion to protect those she considered allies and friends. She wanted to protect Sphinx and Rusty from this war and what it could do to them.
This was what Blaze was looking for. He knew that now her potential would be shown. They began to train immediately. The months ahead were to be some of the most difficult and tiring on Pluto, she had to learn how to control the adrenaline rush she received every time she was in battle. Every time she would start to feel excited about fighting she had to sink into meditation. The goal was not to suppress the adrenaline, but control it. This, as to any other demon that had been trained to have the adrenaline rush was nearly impossible once having lost them to it. Pluto had already been lost to the adrenaline before; being able to return to her normal state was not something any other demon ever dreamed of. Rusty watched her train under Blaze day in and day out. His heart slowly let her go, they could never be together. Pluto had been brought to this earth to change things. She was a weapon; the question was who would control her. Sphinx watched Rusty slowly letting go of Pluto. She knew he cared deeply for her, just as much as she cared for Magus. Even after having been hurt by Magus she still wanted to be with him. Like the others she had a goal, her goal was to find the Magus she once loved hidden in the man that now called himself Magus.
“You still love him” Pluto said quietly as she stepped up behind Sphinx. Sphinx’s eyes opened wide as she spun around. Having been deep in thought she didn’t realize Pluto and Blaze had stopped training. She nodded; her eyes soften to gaze down at Pluto. “You’re going to have to let him go. There’s nothing left in him other than a killer.” Sphinx began to shake her head and hugged herself. “No, I won’t believe that there’s nothing left of the man I love, I just won’t!” With a surprised look on her face, Pluto hugged the now crying Sphinx. Sphinx trembled in her arms, her long black tail and ears quivered all over as well. Pluto gave a sigh, long black dragon like wings sprout from her back and wrap around the two of them. “Sphinx… I will do what I can to return the man you love to you. But I can’t promise it will ever happen.” Sphinx nodded, hiding her face deep in Pluto’s arms. “Pluto, let’s get back to work.” Blaze’s voice intruded. She looked up and let go of Sphinx then returned to Blaze. They continue training; the hours they fought soon became greatly larger than the time Pluto needed to meditate to control her adrenaline. She was starting to gain control of her adrenaline, however; Blaze was worried still that if it came down to life or death she would lose herself again to the adrenaline.
Before long Blaze found himself losing to Pluto’s fighting abilities. Her learning curve was amazing compared to any other warrior. Many times she responded to attacks he made accurately even if it was the first time she had ever seen it. There was no question; who ever had control of Pluto could win the war. Blaze finally decided it was time to let Pluto and Sphinx go out together, alone. Unfortunately for Rusty he wasn’t able to join, the duties of becoming the over lord had reached him. He quickly became just another person in Pluto’s life.
*******
Rusty had been consumed in the work of dealing with deaths of his demons, the needs of his demons and much more. He made efforts to visit the surface world, but those were also nearly impossible. He soon started feeling very lonely and wishing he had taken Pluto as his bride so she could be next to him. The silence inside him was almost too intense as he sat in a large throne room. It was like being the king of a land in a deep never ending war. There was little hope left in his kind and families were being destroyed. However women were to fight in this war just as much as the men. The children were to fight once of age of being full grown, for a demon this was only a few years. “I want the laws of children fighting changed” Rusty muttered to the man standing next to him and writing on a scroll. He looked at Rusty, no longer writing. “My lord, you know the only reason we haven’t lost yet, is that we outnumber the gods. Their magic easily takes on two for their one.” He replied with a stern look on his face. Rusty sighed and rubbed his forehead. “They’re no good to us dead.” He growled. “We need something before any more die. Damn it!” He slammed his fist down on the arm of his chair and got to his feet. “I’m going to the surface world! Do not try to stop me” A portal ripped open in front of him and he went through it. Years had passed since he had gone to the surface world. The lands had changed greatly; the humans had started to build larger better buildings, taking over the forests and fields. The buildings towered high into the sky almost making the buildings in his lands seem small. He looked up into the air and took in a deep breath, his well built chest expanding fully and he reached up his muscled arms stretching and yawning. He then began walking, looking for his beloved Pluto. The streets were crowded with people, his black robes brought little attention as many of the humans still dressed as the gods and demons do. The humans also still knew of the existence of the demons and gods, not fearing them. He folded his wings along his back and sniffed the air, his ears pointed up and forward as he looked for any sign of Pluto. Before long he was walking out of the city, figuring he wouldn’t find her in a crowded city.
Once out of range of the smells and sounds of the city he picked up the scent of blood and began to follow it. He picked up a solid run; his body slowly shape-shifting into a hell hound. His speed increased once he had changed his form. He reached the source of the blood, as he thought, it was Pluto. She had been badly injured and her eyes were clouded over. Rusty in a flame changed to his more human form. She suddenly lunged at him, pinning him to a tree by the throat. She growled in blood lust crushing his throat. In a struggle Rusty grabbed her shoulders trying to draw in air through his nostrils to not pass out. Sphinx ran up behind Pluto and grabbed her arm; Blaze also appeared and tried to pull her off. Pluto swung one arm back throwing both Sphinx and Blaze away. Rusty began to gasp for air, his lungs begged for air. Blood slid over Pluto’s fingers forcing her to lighten her grasp. Rusty made an effort and castes a sleep spell on her. She dropped him and fell against him. He caught her quickly; gasping as air filled his lungs again he kneeled down hugging her. Sphinx carefully approached again with Blaze. Rusty looked up at them. “What’s happened to her?” He had a bit of a growl in his voice. “You’ve been pushing her too hard” Sphinx kneeled down in front of him, Pluto now between the two of them. “She pushed herself, ever since you left she’s been working hard to take care of me.” Sphinx blushed a little, “She really wants to change things; she’s going to take on almighty and create peace with you. Since you have the overlord slot the two of you will be able to make peace if she gets Almighty.” Slowly raising her hand she heals Pluto as she sleeps, unlike normal, it took a while to heal her, she had really pushed herself. Rusty pulled her up against him and closed his eyes. “I promised to protect her,” he muttered, “Damn it, I can’t do both.” Sphinx gently put her hand on his shoulder. Her voice was so soft and warm as she spoke, “I promise, while you’re busy being the Over Lord, I’ll protect Pluto.” Rusty looked up at her and gave a nod. “Alright.” The reply was simply, but there was a thankful look in his eyes and he returned his gaze to Pluto. She slept for an hour before waking; she sat up quickly and let out a growl. “Damn it, did I hurt anyone?” Rusty quickly pulled her back to him and shook his head. “No, no one.” He paused for a moment, “forgive me Pluto for not being there for you.” Pluto looked up quickly. “Rusty,” a soft smile appeared on her lips. “I’ve missed you.” She hugged him. He smiled softly at her and returned the hug to her. They both then got to their feet, they were a group again, none of them would say it but they were all thankful to be together again. “I don’t have long,” Rusty spoke softly, his voice much calmer then when he was still down in his lands. “You’ll have to catch me up with everything that has been going on.” “Magus has completely turned against us.” Pluto spoke seriously and started to walk towards the city Rusty had just been before running into them. Sphinx and Rusty followed, however Blaze made the choice to not join them and faded into the shadows. Sphinx very shyly spoke up, “I don’t think he’s completely gone, I think we can,” She paused; it was hard for her to talk about him, “that we can get him back.” Pluto shook her head slightly. Rusty stopped and put his arms around Sphinx. “We’ll try, but don’t get your hopes up alright?” Rusty knew the cold truth about Magus and how it was impossible to return to his formal state, though he didn’t tell her that. She nodded and pulled away from Rusty. Pluto hadn’t stopped to wait for them, Sphinx ran to catch up. Rusty sighed and followed, thinking to himself. This war has gotten out of hand, it was destroying everyone in every way, but there was hope, Pluto was their chance. A soft smile crossed his face and he picked up a bit of a run to fully catch up with them just as they reached the city.
Sphinx looked up to Pluto her eyes glimmering. Pluto got a twisted look on her face her eyes showing her to be nervous. Sphinx put her hands together. “Please!” She begged. Pluto, in response rolled her eyes and pulled a pouch off her belt handing it to Sphinx. “Give me some alone time then.” Pluto smirked and Sphinx took off going into a store. She was like a little kid going into a giant toy store. Pluto turned and found herself a dark quiet area in the city. Rusty quietly followed her, once they were alone he walked up besides her putting his hand on her shoulder firmly and pulled her against him and kissed her deeply. Pluto went wide eyed for a moment and kept the kiss for a moment then pulled away. “Be mine...” He whispered to her. “Come to Hell with me and be my bride.” Pluto pulled away from Rusty. “I love someone else, even though I have no time for love.” She turned away from him. “I am destined to be a warrior; I don’t have time to love and save everyone.” “I see” He replied with a shaking voice, he was hurt. Without saying a word more he vanished. Pluto let out a sigh. “I’m sorry.” She leaned back against the outer wall of a building and closed her eyes resting.
Pluto opened her eyes to the smell of blood just before it dripped onto her face. Her eyes opened to her father standing over her with a blood covered head in his hand. He held the head by its golden yellow hair, it was Blaze. Her eyes widened looking at the head. “You b*****d!” She hissed swinging at her father as her claws came out. He jumped back grinning at her. “I was right about him betraying me, and now I’ve found you Pluto, you will come back to me and kill the demons, or you will find more heads of your friends in your lap.” His eyes were narrow; he was dead serious with her. Flames engulfed Pluto then rushed at Dagoth. The flames broke away revealing Pluto fully armored and blades in hand as she cut Blaze’s head form his hand, catching it with her tail then slashing at Dagoth. “You go ahead and try!” Her fangs fully extended as she attacked him. He drew a single sword blocking both of her blades with ease.
“You couldn’t protect Blaze, what makes you think you can protect your little Sphinx?” Pluto suddenly landed a hit on him, making a deep cut in his arm. In return Dagoth stuck his sword right through Pluto’s leg and kicked her back. She hit the wall with a loud thump; bricks crumble and drop from the wall. The noise started to draw the attention of humans, many of them continued to walk on how ever some enjoying the fear factor started to look in on them. Dagoth enjoyed the attention and tossed Pluto out into the open. She was forced to drop Blazes head. She rolled for a bit then caught herself on her feet, the leg that had been stabbed gave way and she dropped. A growl escaped her throat, passing through her fangs then turned into a roar. Her dragon like wings stretched open and her claws spread out. She jumped into the air and flew at Dagoth with great speed. He casted a spell, ice shards pierced into Pluto’s skin. Dagoth stepped back, he had expect them to slow her down if not stop her. She pressed forward, shielding her face with the end of her tail. She suddenly spun as she reached Dagoth, her wings folding up and blades coming full force at him, she got a good blow along his chest. His blade managed to somehow found its way into the spin of her blade and stopped her. He grinned at her. “You really have been turned into quite the little killer haven’t you?” His blade moved quickly slicing open her neck only enough to make it so she could no longer breathe. He then pulled his blade away letting her drop.
“You’re still nowhere near good enough to take me on. I’ll let you live to see your friends die. Believe me, with or without you the gods will win this war.” He walked away, stepping on and crushing Blaze’s head as he walked away. Pluto made an effort to go after him again, but her wounds prevented her. Her hand grasped over her throat tightly, closing the hole that had been made and allowing her to breathe again. Humans were too scared to go and help her, and left her there to suffer. The entire area around Pluto got quiet. Pluto got to her knees and healed her neck enough to close the wound, then crawled to Blaze’s crushed head. Her hands shaking she lifted what was left of his head and hugged it. Weakly getting to her feet she walked out of the city finding a nice green hill, she dug a hole with her claws and placed his head in the hole and buried it. Putting two fingers to her forehead she castes a spell sealing the hole and making it look as if it was never there. “I’ll remember where you are.” She whispered hoarsely, and then made her way to a tree sitting under it.
Before long it was getting late. The sun was preparing to set behind the mountains of Atlantis. The forests had already been taken by the iron claw of the night. Sphinx ran back to Pluto, wearing a new heavy cloak over her shoulders and the pouch Pluto had given her early in her hands. She was smiling but as she got closer her steps slowed and her smile faded. She knew something had happened, Pluto was covered in fresh blood, and her eyes gazed down at her hands. She heard Sphinx getting close and looked up with a growl. “Stay away from me!” She hissed at Sphinx and got to her feet. Her rage had almost fully engulfed her and the attacks from her father along with her previous blood thirst; she could no longer control herself. In order to prevent herself from attacking Sphinx, she took off into the forest. She couldn’t get her mind off Blaze, and how her father had slaughtered him. Soon she could no longer focus, and ran blindly through the lands.
**********************
The burning sun slowly pushed back the night’s sky and its heat burned away the frost and mist that had settled along the grounds of a small town. The mist had been masking the slaughter that had recently happened. Blood stained the sides of buildings and bodies lined the streets. A group of people stood around a body, kicking it repetitively. “That’ll teach you!” “Attack our town again you b***h!” The groups of humans were suddenly knocked away from the body by a black mist that had far more force than could be possible. Once the humans were cleared from the body the mist formed into rusty. He kneeled over the bloody body and turned it over.
“Pluto...” He lifted her against him, and wrapped his wings around the two of them tightly. Her nude body shivered even though she was unconscious. He disappeared with here still kneeling as he held onto her. He brought her deep into his world, and rested with her in his lap on his throne. Lava and fire danced around the throne just out of reach of touching them. Even the flames from the depths of hell feared touching the devil himself. Rusty however; was not like his predecessor. He had a side that was capable of more than just lust. He was in love, there was no doubt he loved this girl. He also didn’t doubt he was different from his father. Ancient blood pumped through his veins and still he wanted to protect things, his interests in the war were somewhat lacking. He wanted there to be peace of sorts.
He carefully brushed her hair from her face. He couldn’t help but wince a little seeing her like this. With an out stretched hand he summoned a damp cloth into his hand and began to clean her face. She soon stirred enough to wake and look up at him.
It was odd, looking up at him and feeling his arms so securely around her. Even after being hardened by battle those eyes, they looked at her with such intense love. She could feel her face flush, and then without thinking she reached up and put a hand on the side of his face and pulled him down. His ears flicked when she touched his face but moved willingly to her. Their lips met, and they fell into a deep kiss. Pluto felt Rusty’s tongue brush lightly along her lips and she welcomed it. Pain returned to her mind and with a wince she broke the kiss. Rusty looked at her helplessly, he was no healer. All that could be done by his hands was to clean her of blood and dirt then bandaged her wounds until he could reach someone that could help. With another touch of magic he pulled a blanket from the air and wrapped it around Pluto. Pluto returned to a pain filled rest in his arms on the throne, a single breath would make the pain return, it made even Rusty want to hold his breath.
News from the war came before any help did. A female demon approached Rusty, looking at the woman in his lap but she didn’t dare question it. She kneeled before him and stared up at him. Rusty tightened his grip on Pluto just slightly and returned the woman’s gaze. “Almighty seems distracted recently Overlord.” The demon had noticed him tighten his grip but cautiously made no mention or movement of it. She did not want to tempt this overlords hand, the last overlord had never been forgiving, and this demon had destroyed the previous. “We have made advances and nearly pushed the gods into the hills.” Rusty kept his face placid; this was both good and bad news. On one hand the demons were winning, unfortunately, this would mean more deaths for both sides. “Once they reach the hills they will use them for cover.” He kept his voice calm but removed his gaze from the demon. Pluto stirred again in her sleep and opened her eyes and turned her head looking at the new demon. The demon did everything she could not to stare at Pluto. That face could easily be placed anywhere, this girl in the overlords arms was the daughter of almighty. After a moment of silence and watching the demon he cleared his throat and both eyes returned to him. “Hold them where they are, I’m sure they’re already setting up fortifications in the hills. We need to find a way to cut them off. Do not advance on them, but make it look as if they are holding us back again. I don’t want them knowing we’ve caught on.” The demon nodded in simple response. Then rose, returning her gaze on Pluto.
“Milord,” She spoke cautiously, “The demons will be proud to hear you have taken almighty’s daughter from him. Word has it, she was to be a turning point for the gods and you have stopped that.” Rusty’s eyes narrowed and he let his voice get deeper. “That brings up another thought. Find the demon by the name of Sphinx and bring her to me. Do this job yourself then spread the word as you please. In fact,” He looked down at Pluto, his eyes instantly turning soft. “Tell them I plan to take her as my mate.” He waved the demon away. There was to be no more words spoken by the demon but a large grin spread across her face and she backed herself away from Rusty’s throne and vanished to do as she had been told. He took Pluto’s hand in his and kissed her finger tips wishing he could take her pain. Pain was drawn across her face but her eyes gazed up at him as if she had never really looked at him before. His heart fluttered away and he pulled her against him kissing her lips again. How unfair it was for his beloved Pluto to be suffering and he could do nothing because he was a demon and such holy magic was no gift a demon of his blood line carried. So, he held her firmly in his arms and begged his powers to let him take her pain. He could feel her shiver from the pain, the wounds weren’t healing, Sphinx needed to get here, now. Then, he felt the pain grasp over his body, he grit his teeth. The pain was intense; it felt as if he had just been stabbed in the back, how ever there was no one behind him. They were the only ones in the room. Pluto relaxed in his arms, her pain fading. Though she still carried pain, she now shared it with Rusty. A shaky smile crossed Rusty’s lips as he realized what had happened.
Sphinx came through a portal and ran to them; ignoring status she pushed Rusty back. The pain rushed back to Pluto and she winced in pain. She dropped her head back and let out a groan. Rusty felt even worse letting it slip away and have it all fall onto Pluto again. “Put her down! I can’t do anything like this!” Sphinx nearly snapped at Rusty to try and get him out of his own shock. Rusty shook his head and blinked a few times then carefully set Pluto down at the foot of the throne. Sphinx was kneeling over her in an instant, her hands firmly crossed over Pluto’s chest. Sphinx began to glow with a gold aura and after what seemed to be ages to Rusty, Pluto began to heal. Her wounds slowly grew small and vanished. The healing continued until nearly every sign of Pluto being hurt had faded and she was left to rest. Sphinx weakly got to her feet with Rusty’s help.
“I owe you Sphinx, go home and get some rest.” He hugged her briefly and helped her return to her home by opening a portal. She left, leaving rusty alone again with Pluto. He scooped her up into his arms and resumed his place on the throne. His life forced him to be here, but there was nothing against him having her in his arms while he was in the throne. He shifted her carefully as she rest so she was up against his chest. Then looked down to the other end of the throne room, he could feel the presence of demons outside the large black doors. The doors were made of black crystal, smoothed and polished so they shined. Careful runes had been made in the door ways that gave them a sparkle from the lapping flames around them. The floor was made from red and black volcanic rock smoothed and polished to a shine as well. Volcanic rock was fragile, and so a spell had been used to make it stronger and resist the heat. More runes covered the floor making the eye follow them to the throne. Demons, in all truth, lived for ever. Unless they were killed by some outside force, they could live for eternity. Rusty had been born only a few hundred years after this planet had been born. Now he was at what was considered adulthood for a demon.
Since the wars started, demons had started reaching adult hood much faster than Rusty ever had. The gods were doing the same and both races were working to give birth faster. This war was about the numbers, training helped but much of that came from instinct being magical races. Pluto was one of them, she had already reached what would be considered adult age. Lord was she beautiful; Rusty couldn’t help but bring his attention to her. He leaned closer to her, more than anything; he wanted to be with Pluto. Her eyes opened and focused on his face again and she brought her lips to his. They shared a passionate kiss wrapped in each other’s arms. When they finally parted from their kiss Rusty managed to whisper to her.
“Pluto,” His voice shook. He managed to choke down the lump in his throat. He moved suddenly and picked her up again. She let out a gasp and grasped onto the collar of his robes. They smiled at each other for a moment then Pluto let out a small giggle and nestled her face into his neck. Rusty hesitated about taking her to his room until he felt her arms around his neck. He turned and carried her behind the throne and into the chambers behind the throne. Two demons stood on guard just inside the Chamber.
This room was a simple reading room, magic books and scrolls lined the walls. Towards the back of the room was a large desk with a comfortable chair. Oddly enough, this room was much cooler then the throne room; it was almost as if they were on the surface world again. This chamber had another hall leading into the other rooms that belonged to him. He quickened his pace through this room giving a slight nod to the guards as he passed into the hall and into a room near the back of the hall. With a little magic the double doors swung shut behind them. This room was even cooler then the reading chamber, in fact, it was almost cold.
A bed sat in the middle of the side wall with long black and red curtains that could be drawn to keep out what little light was in the room. For Rusty, they were there for an extra wall of privacy if someone decided to risk their necks and enter his room. He placed Pluto carefully on the soft velvet blankets and found himself being pulled down as well. Their lips met as he gave himself to her wanting arms.
Pluto gazed down at Rusty after their moment of passion and let out a slow breath through pursed lips. Rusty slowly sat up and wrapped his arms around her pulling her to his chest. He spoke in a whisper, “We were never made to be together.” His voice was a little hoarse as he said it and his arms tightened around her. Pluto tensed all over and closed her eyes; she gave the smallest nod in response. There was no denying they weren’t ever going to be lovers but they did care for each other deeply and it was a confusing emotion for the two of them. They both would have enjoyed admitting to each other the love one would share with a mate, but such a thing wasn’t there for them. After a quiet moment, Pluto pulled away from Rusty’s arms and swung her legs off the edge of the bed. He followed after her with a sort of weakness to his eyes. This had hurt both of them, but had also opened their eyes. They knew now that they would be true friends for ever, even if it hurt that they couldn’t be lovers.
Pluto looked to Rusty after a moment and smiled. “We can still take care of each other.” Rusty nodded to her. He put a gentle arm over her shoulders and pulled her close. She smiled and nestled into his arms and closing her eyes. “I’ll still protect you, Pluto, I promise you.” He squeezed her in his arms before falling asleep. They slept quietly and happily in each other’s arms.
Pluto woke the next morning and slipped out of bed. On the human plan the sun would just be starting to break the horizon and birds would just be waking from their slumber to start in song and early eating. She smiled as Rusty woke feeling her warmth gone. “I know you can’t come with me. I have to go and get back to training. I have a father to repay…” her voice drifted off. She began to dress herself slipping her lower robes on first. She sighed a little looking at them as Rusty stood and moved behind her to help her dress. The robes were torn and tattered; they offered very little cover and no protection. Rusty placed his hands on her shoulders. “It’s ok; this is bigger than all of us, so it needs to be done.” Her response was a quiet and simple nod. “Let me fix those robes hmm?” He was able to keep a warm and loving voice with her still. Black mist surrounded the two of them. The mist took away her old torn robes turning them into mist as well then created new ones. Plum red silk surrounded her as an under robe. A second layer of robes formed over the silk, these were black of a soft but much stronger fabric. Along the sleeves and neck were intricate black stitches that formed different runes of protection. Many of them Pluto didn’t even recognize. Warm fingers brushed against Pluto’s neck as Rusty pulled back her hair into a pony tail. “You’ll need to keep your eyes open from now on. There will be a lot of people that will want you dead, on both sides.” Pluto nodded and leaned back against Rusty. “I’ll visit when I can.” They looked at each other for a moment, than Rusty chuckled. “Stop being so serious, I’ll still be here when this is all over and so will you.” Pluto smirked and nodded. With a wave of her hand, a portal to the human realm and Sphinx opened. She pulled away from Rusty leaving him behind and stepped through the portal.
