What is Apologia?
Moon's Apologia is an amateur PC game that I am making using RPG Maker XP. Friends have contributed a few melodies and helped me fix a few scripting bugs, but other than that, the content is entirely by me. Because there is only one person making it, it should be done by, oh, Q2 2101 or so. gonk
I often find it hard to explain what the purpose and topic of his game are. It is a cerebral, artsy-fartsy venture that investigates meaning, selfhood, ontology, and other fancy concepts. On the other hand it's just a little RPG with otome game influences, nothing truly beautiful or revolutionary. I make it because I have a compulsion to make it; I have to in order to survive. Its intended audience is the same size as the development team: one person, me.
On the other hand, I would like to share the little ideas inside it with other people, to amuse them for an afternoon. And so I am posting up information and links here and other places so that interested people can come, listen, and see, if they like.
Who can play Apologia?
Although I'm making the game only for myself, I'll of course share it with other people who want to play. I anticipate that it will be totally free to download when finished. Also, as it will take me years to finish, I'll be putting up bits and pieces of it here and there as they're finished, and those will be free to download too.
My game includes:
• Impolite language
• Frank discussion of sexuality
• Terrible disrespect of religion and other institutions
• War and violence, and a few moments of rather intense violence
• Some pretty scary and unsettling trauma for the characters
... Although the instances of these things are actually all pretty tame, as shocking people isn't really an interest of mine. However, if I feel like the story needs something, I will add it in even if it isn't proper, politically correct, or suitable to all ages.
The ideal player of this game would be mature and open-minded. I do not believe in arbitrary age cutoffs, but if the game must be rated, I don't think there is anything that would qualify for more than a T or PG-13 rating at this time, so I think it is all right for me to post information on Gaia... but this may change as the story is developed.
