Warning: Suggestive content. A story I'm writing, and this is just the first bit. Feel free to comment or critique. Enjoy!
“Master, please!” “Quit your whining you whore! You are my slave and I shall do with you what I want now shut your dirty trap!” the man said over top of the woman. He continued to grunt loudly, moving rapidly over the slave beneath him, who was now moaning in pain. He collapsed on top of her, exhausted and spent from his vigorous intercourse. The man rolled over onto the other side of the bed, breathing heavily, and looked back at the woman. “You are free to go now Callista. Go on, get out of my sight.”
Callista, the young-woman, rushed out of the bed and grabbed her clothes hastily from the floor (if you could call them clothes). Ignoring the pain between her thighs, she dressed into a skimpy dress that accentuated her curves but did practically nothing to hide her body, and escaped from her Masters’ bedroom. Once inside the safety of her own living quarters, she lay on the bed and cried heavily until she fell asleep. As the next day dawned through the Castle Brote, Callista was again ravaged until she finally found herself unable to keep her emotions hidden. In the middle of her task, she began to cry, and the tears flowed down her cheeks onto the pillows beneath her. She was hit brutally in the face where a bruise had formed and left her in more agony. When she was dismissed, she ran to her room once again and cried.
Ever since she was a developed child, men of all ages had eyed her body with lust, and she knew not why. When her family was auctioned off at a sale she was immediately sent around as sex-slave, going from one greedy, perverted Master to the next until one Master had finally planted his number on her. A branded number placed into her lower back numbered 900128.
“The first three numbers represent my number my dear,” the Master had told her after she was burnt. “The fourth number is the ‘quality’ and ‘priority’ of the slave meaning that you are a very good slave and you are very important to me. The fifth number means how many very good slaves I have and the sixth number means how many slaves I have altogether.” Then she knew why men had eyed her greedily and lustily.
That evening, after she was in her Masters’ clutches again, she awoke with a start to see a bird appear at her barred window. The moon was shining brightly and cast a pale light through the window, and Callista could see the shining stars beyond. Oh, how she longed to be able to go outside into the night world again. There was something on the birds’ legs. A note.
“What?” she said to herself silently. Grabbing the small scroll from the bird, she gently untied it and read.
Dear Slave, We have seen you suffer enough and we feel that you need not suffer anymore. Come join us, in the woods, where you will be safe from harm. You will be free, and will no longer be taken against your will. Signed, The Outlaw Clan (Meet me right now outside if you can. I will be waiting with two horses. Code will be ‘Lakashna’)
“Lakashna?” the word rolled over her tongue easily as if she had spoken it before, but no memory came to her of the word. She smiled at the bird and then looked longingly to the outside world and smiled. ‘You will be free…’ the note had said. “What is it like to be free my bird-friend? Is it like soaring through and beyond?” Her eyes lighted and she escaped her bedroom to the main hall outside, and through the servants-door at the back, where there was a man, with two horses.
“Lakashna?” Callista said and moved slowly towards the stranger.
“Lakashna to you too,” the stranger said. “Quickly now. Atop the horse. You didn’t pack anything?”
“I do not have anything to pack.”
“Very well. What? Have you never ridden a horse before?” the stranger asked looking at her oddly.
“Well I have never ridden these kind of horses before,” Callista said and attempted at climbing the great black beast before her.
“I will help you. My name is Marlo,” he said and aided her. “Stay close to me if you want to get out of here in one piece.”
“I am Callista,” she replied and mounted the horse. With great speed they were off, with Marlo holding onto her horses’ reins, keeping them in close step together. The trip went by rather silently, and not a word was spoken to one another until they reached a clearing in the middle of the forest. Marlo made a high-pitched whistling sound and an arrow landed by their feet, causing the horses to rise up in fear.
“Lakashna,” Marlo called out after the horses had calmed and from the boughs of the trees came three men, clad in wooden armor and bearing very badly made bows. “Another recruit.” He winked at the men, and Callista began to wonder if this was indeed the freedom she thought about.
“What does Lakashna mean?” Callista asked after they had stepped past the guards and continued their journey.
“It means ‘good evening’ in the ancient language. Why?”
“It sounds familiar that’s all.”
“Unlikely considering your age but if your parents were Knowledge Binders then maybe. Considering your…status…I would say that’s unlikely,” he said and smiled. He pulled the reins when they came to a slight rise in the ground. “What you are about to see may amaze you. Once you enter, you may never leave unless you are killed. Do you want to turn back?”
“No,” Callista answered immediately, suspicion rising in the pit of her stomach.
“Very well. Follow me then,” he said and rode ahead slowly and stopped at the top of the hill and waited patiently for Callista. She stared in awe at the sight before her, her eyes twinkling with glee. “Welcome to your new home Callista.”

As they descended the grassy slope, another met them. This man was built large and muscular, with interesting gray eyes. “Marlo, you’re back! Lakashna!”
“Lakashna,” Marlo said, returning the greeting. “I have brought back another. She is freed from her sex-slave life. Her name is…”
“Callista,” the woman said after Marlo’s momentary pause, not taking her eyes off the empowering figure before her. He was nothing like her Master and certainly much more handsome.
“Welcome Callista. I am simply known as Rocks here among these people. Did you know that your name means ‘beautiful’ in the ancient language? You certainly live up to your name my dear,” Rocks said and bowed low, then grabbing her hand very lightly, kissed it, causing Callista to blush. “We must take her to Reginauld. He would very much like to meet her.”
“Yes, yes, by all means,” Marlo replied and rode down the hill quickly, pulling Callista’s horse behind him, leaving Rocks at the top.
“Who is Reginauld?”
“He is the leader of the freed people here. He came with Marlna about twenty years ago and they have been both been here ever since.”
“Marlna?” Callista asked, the name rolling awkwardly over her tongue.
“Yes. She is the ‘scribe’ as so many rich people would have called her. She’s the one in charge of the money we get and the people. She’s the keeper of the information, if you’ll take that,” Marlo said and laughed. “Although half the time, she can’t even remember her own name! Here we are.”
They had come upon a hut that seemed larger than the rest of the huts that surrounded it. A twig and leaf roof prevented the rain from entering and the walls were built from twigs, logs and various other items that Callista was slightly afraid to ask about. As they entered, there was a small cheer for Marlo’s safe arrival and a gasp as Callista entered behind him.
“Who is this?” a deep voice asked. Callista could not see where the voice had come from because she was hiding behind Marlo, trying to go unnoticed but that had failed.
“This is Callista. I helped her escape from her master. She is the one we have been watching milord,” Marlo said and clicked his heels together smartly.
“Please, Marlo. We are all friends and family here. Do not call me so formally. Seriously. Now, come here child. Let me look at you and see if your do live up to your name,” the voice said again. Callista abided by his request and stepped from behind Marlo, her head was cast down for she did not want to make eye contact. “Look in my eyes and tell me if you know what your name means.”
She looked up very slowly and smiled weakly. “It means ‘beautiful’ in the ancient language sir,” she said but very quietly. Even though she had been taken advantage of, she was still a young woman and very shy towards men.
“That it does and you definitely do live up to your name. So, welcome to the Outlaw Clan! Come forward child and please do not fear me. I am Reginauld and the leader of this family. Would you like to join us?”
“Yes, please,” Callista replied and stepped forward towards him. He wrapped his arms around her delicately and hugged her, sending warmth through her body and releasing a smile through her lips. “Sir, how did you all get out of the slave trade? Especially you.”
Reginauld smiled and placed his arm around her shoulders. He was a full two heads taller than she and she felt extremely small but safe. “You already know Marlo. He was a fighter who fought for entertainment, a disgusting idea for imbeciles. Rocks, was a builder and had escaped after a broken rib had broken his reputation. This is Marlna, my most trusted advisor and most beloved friend. She came from the Dungeons of Melanion where she kept a record of all the prisoners. How old are you old girl? Sixty? Pushin’ seventy? I worked in mines, mills and farms as a petty slave and Marlna helped me escape from our Master about twenty years ago. After about four days they stop looking for you.”
“They stop looking for you?” Callista asked with a sound of hope. She rested against Reginauld easily and smiled. Her eyes began to close against her will and she struggled to stay awake. Reginauld noticed this and ordered Marlo to take her up to his hut. Very soon, Callista was laying on a fur covered floor of a hut, and was fast asleep.

Days passed by and Callista began to feel at ease with her newfound friends and family as she came to a realization that her former Master was not going to find her. Finally after four months of living with Marlo and Rocks, something unexpected happened in the forest group; Marlo began to fall in love with Callista. Rocks thought it would happen from day one, but Marlo would deny it even to now. He summed up his courage one day and came forward to her.
“Callista?” he asked. Sweat poured down the back of his neck making his newly cut shoulder-length blonde hair cling to his neck, and down his back. His dark brown tunic clung to his back and caused him to shiver as the wind blew.
“Yeah?” she replied casually. It was not an uncommon thing for Marlo to ask for a back massage every once in awhile when he had been training, and she thought it was one of those moments again. A slight wind blew making her chestnut hair blow around her face and her dark brown dress blow in different directions.
“Um…would you mind giving me another massage?” Marlo cursed himself silently for not being able to talk to her. He was a fighter for Reavers’ sake! He’s supposed to be brave and be able to take anything! But he can’t even talk to a beautiful young woman.
“Sure. Let’s go back into out hut and we’ll start okay?” Callista said and smiled, heading back to the hut where she pulled her hair up into a ponytail. “Lay down. We’re going to try this a little bit differently today.”
Marlo was a little confused but did as he was ordered and lay on the fur-covered floor, facedown, as Callista climbed atop of him, straddling his back. Putting all her weight onto his spine, she cracked it in several places and eased out the tension and muscles. “Your muscles are a lot tighter than usual. You’re under a lot of stress Marlo, do you want to talk about it?” Callista removed herself from his back and sat next to him with her slender legs crossed.
“Well, if you’re up to listening to boring old me,” Marlo said and rolled over onto his side and propped his head against his hand. “I’m just thinking about stuff and then every possible outcome and it adds stress I guess. Coming up with new tactics and plans and strategies…”
“You’re talking battle again,” Callista said and giggled softly.
“Sorry. But I guess you want to hear what’s bothering me right?” he asked as Callista leaned forward. “Well, I like you and I don’t know what to do anymore.”
“Well, I like you too. You’re a great friend to be around, but I don’t understand how you don’t know what to do anymore,” she said confusedly.
Marlo sighed. “Callista. Seeing as you’re younger than I am…” “By only six years!” Callista interrupted.
“Yes. Seeing as you’re younger I am going to be very blunt with you. Callista,” Marlo said and paused as he realized this was it. This was the moment of heart-take or heartbreak. “I love you.”
She remained silent for a moment as the information processed through her mind and finally began to sink in. “Marlo, you’re a great friend and I’m truly flattered and I would if I could…but I can’t. No matter how much I trust you I still can’t bring myself to be ‘with’ men. I’m sorry,” Callista said and got up and left, with tears forming in her eyes just as Rocks entered the hut.
“What did you do to her?” Rocks asked Marlo ferociously.
“I told her,” he replied simply.
“She didn’t take it well then?”
“What do you ******** think?”
“What did she say?”
“She said how she would if she could but she can’t because she can’t be ‘with’ men and then apologized and walked out.”
“You realize now that things might get a little awkward,” Rocks said softly, not wanting to further hurt his friend. “Yeah. But I think it was worth it because this way it’s off my chest and this’ll give her something to think about. I’m going to bed now,” Marlo said and crawled over to his section of the hut.
“But it’s only lunch-time,” Rocks said.
“Good-night Rocks.”

As Callista ran blindly out of her hut, she ran into Reginauld to demanded what was wrong with her. After hearing her little story he grasped her in his arms, and held her close for a moment and then spoke. “Callista, just because someone says that they love you does not mean that they want to make love to you. It just means that they would like to be with you and be that special person for you. Being in love and making love are two completely different theologies but they are in the same process. Is this making any sense to you?”
Callista shook her head furiously, not understanding a single word he was saying. She knew what lovemaking was but being in love was like trying to learn a whole new language. Reginauld continued, trying to make Callista understand. “When you’re in love with someone, it’s like your whole world depends on them and when they are sad it breaks your heart, but when they are happy, your heart feels light and you do too. Callista, do you have any feelings like that whatsoever towards Marlo?”
Callista thought for a moment. “Yes,” she said weakly but then again, firmly. “Yes, I do have those feelings towards him.”
“Then go to him, tell him that you love him too and he will forgive you and then see what happens. And I truly hope you two are happy together,” Reginauld said and then gave Callista one last hug and gently pushed her off towards her hut. “I sure hope he doesn’t hurt her.”
As Callista headed back towards the hut, she ran into Rocks who smiled at her very sweetly and continued walking. Callista returned the smile and then pushed the fur-door aside and headed into the hut where she noticed Marlo huddled under his blankets. “Marlo?” she asked. Marlo sat bolt upright at the sound of her voice, but his face remained expressionless. She sat next to him and began to speak again. “I’ve thought about it and I’ve gotten some advice and I decided I will give it a shot. I’ve never been in love but maybe this is it and I want to see what it’s like.”
Marlo’s face was one of confusion, happiness and lust (which by the way is an interesting mix). He moved the blankets from on top of him and leaned forward towards Callista, where he placed his hand on hers and smiled. “Thank you,” Marlo said.
“You’re welcome?” Callista replied and they both laughed. “So…now what?” “Well, there are a lot of things we could do. But seeing as you’re response earlier we’re not going to be rushing anything, so we could start by telling Reginauld. I’m sure he’d be happy to hear that,” Marlo suggested.
“Sure! That sounds like a good idea!”
That night there was a feast held in honour of the new couple and they were blessed with happiness, fertility, truth and everything else that’s wanted in a relationship. But no one knew what was to come only a few months later. (Language warning: those who are too young to read should not read. You shouldn’t even be reading this anyways because I rated it higher.)
A few months later…
“Why do you have to be so goddamn stupid?” Callista yelled at Marlo. Her 20th birthday had passed almost two months ago and now she had matured greatly but to her, Marlo had gotten immature. His 27th birthday was shortly after hers and they had shared the night together in romance, passion and lust. All was well until now.
“Why do I have to be stupid? I’m not the one that ran straight into the ******** horde!” he retorted.
“Hey, if I hadn’t of charged, your a** would’ve been on ******** fire!”
Marlo sighed and accepted defeat. He went towards Callista with his arms open and tried to kiss her, but she turned furiously away. “You realize this is the sixteenth fight we’ve had in our six-month relationship right?” she said beginning to cry.
Marlo nodded in sadness and understanding and turned Callista towards him gently. “It isn’t working very well for us is it?” he asked and tears formed in his eyes. “I don’t think it is,” she replied.
“We’re going to have to end it. I would like it if we would still stay friends at least,” Marlo said as the tears began to fall from his eyes.
Callista remained silent for a moment but then agreed. She loved this man and he loved her, but they were not meant to be. Reginauld had once told her that romance lasted awhile, but friendship lasted forever, but love was for eternity. “What do we do about our beds then?”
“That’s no problem. We’re on the floor and you can just scoot over or you could still share the same area as me,” Marlo suggested hopefully.
Callista shook her head slowly and then left the hut in which they were in and told Reginauld, who took it all in and comforted her. He knew just what to say, when to say it, and how to say it. He was the Man of Men. Just as she finished her tale, the alarm horn sounded as a stranger was approaching them. Callista stood up quickly and hurried to her hut where she quickly grabbed her daggers and stuck them in her boots and headed to the main ground where the stranger was heading.
The stranger wore a long riding cape that was dirty and torn in several places. His clothing was that of regal standing and a gold crest was inlaid into his black armour. He dismounted his horse and headed towards Reginauld who stared at him coldly, and then he noticed Callista. She was still beautiful in many ways, but now she had been trained in many ways of fighting and she stood in a defiant stance that took the stranger’s breath away. “I am Kael of Thebden and I have been traveling for many days and seek rest and perhaps sustenance.”
“How did you find this place? You are not welcome here. Leave before you are run through,” Reginauld said calmly but fiercely. “I mean you no harm. I was just riding through the forest when I came across your group and figured you would not be so hostile, but I can see I was wrong. I shall tell my leader that his ‘subjects’ are not even hospitable towards their own kind,” Kael said and lowered his hood from his face to reveal himself. He was by far the handsomest man that Callista had ever seen, but his cold air was unattractive and she hated him immediately. His black hair was cut short and his icy blues eyes never left Callista’s dark blue-gray eyes.
“Did you not hear him? Leave scoundrel, before I run you through myself,” Marlo said stepping in front of Callista. Even after they’re fight and break-up he still loved her and did not like people staring at her, especially the way the stranger did; he stared with lust and an urge to have himself done.
“And who are you? His son? His brother? His servant?” The last remark made Marlo turn red with anger. “Can you people not see what he is doing to you? He freed you from your former masters and is using you for his own slaves.”
“How did you know we were slaves?” Callista asked politely stepping from behind Marlo. He put his arm out in front of her to stop her from going forward, but she pushed it rudely away. “I asked you a question, stranger.” She asked forcefully.
“I have my sources,” Kael replied and looked at his nails.
Callista pounced on him, dropping him to the forest floor and brought her dagger out from her boot and held it to his throat. “I’ll ask you one more time: how did you know we were slaves?” she repeated fiercely.
“There are posters around towns showing the slaves that have gone missing and seeing as you’re all here with nothing valuable, I put two and two together,” he said calmly. “And my name is Kael.” He pushed her off roughly, sending her sprawling back onto her bottom and jumped up and sheathed his sword.
Marlo jumped forward in anger and rage and lunged at Kael who merely knocked his weapon aside. “Anger gets you no where in a fight.”
“Marlo. Leave him,” Reginauld said and walked over to Callista and helped her up. He looked into her eyes and saw a hate he had never seen before. “If you must you must.”
She nodded and grabbed Marlo’s sword from his hand, and he grabbed her arm. “Please, don’t,” he pleaded with her. She yanked her arm roughly away and stood in her fighting stance as a circle formed around them.
“Ready girl?” Kael asked mockingly.
Callista said nothing but closed her eyes and steadied her emotions. Concentration was the key for her, but it was not broken even as Kael’s laugh echoed through the forest.
“What in all the Hells are you doing girl? Are you meditating? Is this what you’re ‘leader’ has taught you? It means nothing in combat,” he said and charged Callista as her eyes were still closed. She did not move until the last second where she brought her leg up and kicked him in the stomach, causing him to lean over and clutch his stomach. She brought her knee up towards his face and his nose began to bleed, and then she stomped on his toe and kneed him in the groin.
“What in all the Hells are you doing boy? Is this what you’re ‘leader’ has taught you?” she mocked Kael. Callista spat on the ground next to him and kicked his sword away from him and leaned in close to him. “Now that you got a beating are you going to leave or insist on staying?”
“You’re beautiful,” he whispered to her and then became unconscious.
“Men,” Callista said and sighed. “We have to keep him now. Throw him in my hut and I’ll bandage him up.”
“Callista…” Marlo began but was cut off for Callista shot him an evil look.
“Listen Marlo. I’m in an extremely bad mood. Don’t piss me off further,” she said and walked over to Reginauld. “I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay. I’m sure you’ve taught him a lesson,” he said and smiled.
“What lesson would that be?”
“That love is triggered by hate.”
Callista stared at him for a moment and then stormed off towards her hut, where Kael was being brought in and she was left alone with him.

Kael awoke very slowly and did not remember where he was until he saw Callista directly above him, bandaging him.
“Hello,” Callista said without looking at him. Marlna was there too and she busied herself with minor tasks: cleaning his clothes, cleaning the hut, disposing of ragged rags, getting new rags etc. “How are you feeling?” Callista’s brown hair flowed around her face, hiding her expressions and the polite smile that was across her face.
“Fine, but where are my clothes?” Kael asked realizing that all he had around him was a fur blanket.
“Marlna is washing them,” Marlna replied and smiled and left the hut.
“Who?”
“Marlna. She is the oldest woman here and the wisest. She does what she wants. It was the women that answered you,” Callista explained and bit the thread that was between her teeth.
“What are you doing?”
“You had a very bad cut on your outer thigh and various other scrapes that needed tending to,” Callista said and finished her sewing.
“I don’t need tending to,” Kael said defiantly.
“You would have died,” Callista replied calmly, but just as defiantly. “There, you’re done anyways so no need to thank me.”
“Thank you,” Kael said softly and smiled. Just as Callista was about to rise, he grabbed her arm. “What’s your name?”
“Callista,” she replied. “Rest.”
Kael fell asleep as was ordered and dreamt of Callista and a few hours later he awoke to the sting of cold steel against his throat.
“Don’t move or I’ll kill you,” a rough and throaty voice said to him in a whisper. “Listen very closely; I want you to leave Callista alone. She deserves the best and you are not it. Don’t even think about doing anything with her or anything that involves her. She’s been through enough now leave her be.” The voice then slipped out of the tent and moments later Kael awoke drenched in a cold sweat, believing it was all just a dream. He looked to his left and Callista was there in all her glory, asleep.
Leave Callista alone. She deserves the best…” Kael reminded himself. What does anyone know about me? They don’t know if I’m the best for her! They don’t know if I’m capable of loving her like a normal human being…oops…wrong sentence there. She is a normal human being, just different. Kael fell back asleep and was awoken again but this time by a quick burst of sun entering the tent. It was Callista.
“Callista…” Kael began but his throat was extremely dry so it sounded as if he were dying.
Callista ran over to him immediately with a bark-cup and helped him drink down the water. “Yes?”
“Did you know your name means ‘beautiful’ in the ancient language?”
Callista sighed heavily and rolled her eyes. “You think I don’t know that? I’ve been told that by everyone here at the camp,” she said and placed the cup on the floor outside the hut. “How do you know the ancient language anyways?”
“My mother was a Knowledge Binder and my grandfather, before he passed away, taught me as much as he could,” Kael replied and sat up on his elbows. The blanket fell past his shoulders to reveal the muscled core and Callista couldn’t help but blush a little even though she had seen it before and others’. “Do you know any of the ancient language?”
“Only that Lakashna is good evening and that Callista is beautiful.”
Kael stood up and thankfully he had his pants on, although he couldn’t remember putting them on. Callista arose too thinking he would want to say something to her. He lightly gripped her arms and held her close to him, with his eyes level at hers. “Eiste to versa callista nosh iz liw rev ess,” Kael said.
Callista’s eyes began to shine lightly for some reason. “What does that mean?”
“It means you are the most beautiful thing I will always see,” Kael said. He leaned in to kiss her when the flap to the hut opened and Marlo was standing there.
“Hello,” he said roughly to Kael and walked over to Callista. “Reginauld wants to talk to you about him.” He then eyed Kael unhappily and distastefully.
“Okay,” Callista said and walked out, but looked behind her at Kael just before she left.
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing. Stay away if you know what’s good for you. She deserves the best and I’m sure that you can’t give her that,” Marlo said and he gritted his teeth from saying anything further.
“What do you care what I do to her?”
“Because I love her. I will always love her and I’ve made love to her so beat it. She’s mine,” he said and walked out.
He was the knife-man wasn’t her? I knew it…he loves her too much to be able to stay away from her. The old p***k…

As Callista entered Reginauld’s tent, a hush settled upon the small, gathered crowd. “Callista,” Reginauld began. “There is something of importance I need to talk to you about.”
“What is it?” she replied, concern edging into her voice.
“This Kael fellow. He is…kind to you?”
She shrugged her tan shoulders. “I’ve only know him for a day.”
“Marlna has seen his wounds before you bound them and he has a deep flesh wound in his lower back. We are kind people and he will not be leaving until his wound is completely healed. He will sleep in your tent along with Marlo and Rocks…”
“No,” Callista interrupted. Her face was set like stone in a grim determination.
“What?”
“No, he will not be sleeping in my tent. Marlo does not like him and there is a silent feud going on if you had not noticed. Marlo still cares for me too much for that man to stay with us.”
“I see,” Reginauld said and processed the information through his brain carefully. “Very well. Bring Marlo to me and Kael will be sleeping in your tent. Now, run along and do your stuff.”
“Yes, sir,” she said venomously and left. She returned to the hut where she only found Kael. “Where’s Marlo?”
“He left,” Kael replied. He was sitting down this time, with his legs crossed and a tunic over his broad shoulders. Callista turned to leave when Kael spoke again. “Come sit with me a moment Callista.”
She did as she was bid and sat across from him with her legs crossed. Callista looked at him expectantly, waiting for him to talk. “Yes?” she asked after a moments’ silence.
“Um…what did your leader say?”
“Reginauld? He said that you are to stay with us until the wound on your back is fully healed.”
“Oh. What about your husband?”
“He’s not my husband,” Callista replied calmly. Another moments’ silence.
“Okay, then what about the one that came in calling for you?”
“His name is Marlo, and Reginauld said he’s just going to have to deal with you being in here then.”
“I see. So, tell me about yourself Callista,” he prodded gently.
“I’d rather not. I have to go find Marlo anyways. Good-day sir,” Callista said and stood up gracefully, and left, but not before Kael had his last word.
“It’s Kael and goodbye Callista,” he said slowly.
As Callista left the hut, she threw one last look back at Kael and smiled. “Bye Kael.” She took a deep breath to stop her from crying. Talking about her parents almost always made her cry and it was so heart wrenching. “Marlo! Reginauld wants to see you. Now…”
Marlo looked over and waved, but seeing her sad face he rushed over to her and hugged her, quickly scanning her with his eyes. “Did he hurt you? Did that b*****d hurt you? If he did I’ll…” He stopped as he was slapped in the face.
“I said that Reginauld wants to see you. And don’t you ever call him a b*****d again! Do you hear me? Do you hear me?” Callista said screaming and crying.
Marlo was in shock and didn’t how to reply. “Callista, I…” but she was already gone and running away from him. He ran to Reginauld and was told he had to deal with Kael sleeping there and no more feuds. Then Marlo told Reginauld that Callista had ran.
“Ran? Where?” Reginauld asked jumping from his seat.
“I don’t know. She called me and she looked sad so I checked her to make sure she was okay and then I kind of said I’d kill Kael if he touched her, then she slapped me and ran off crying,” Marlo said, feeling extremely ashamed of himself.
“Do you know what you’ve done? She’s already been through enough from what I know, and then you adding extra stress? You’ve got some nerve Marlo,” Reginauld said angrily and stormed out, looking for Callista. Kael heard Reginauld call for Callista and ran out of the tent. “What’s going on?” he asked quickly.
“Callista’s run off,” Reginauld said panting slightly from running and shouting.
“Where would she go?” Kael asked, gripping the man’s broad arms. Reginauld thought frantically for a moment. “I don’t know. She’s never run off before.”
“Leave it to me,” Kael said.
“You can’t leave,” Reginauld said firmly and grabbed his arm hard. “Stay in the tent. We’ll get her, don’t worry yourself. Marlo! Rocks! Find Callista and bring her to me. Now!”
Marlo and Rocks ran up to Reginauld and hastily nodded their heads and ran off into different directions. Two hours later, Rocks entered the camp carrying a bloodied Callista in his arms. Marlo ran over to him and took a sharp intake of breath.
Everyone stared in shock at the horror that was before them. “Bring her here,” Marlna said quietly but firmly amongst the silence. Rocks stood before Marlna with his arms open for the old woman to look at. “Bring her inside and I shall fix her up.” Rocks entered the hut after Marlna and lay her on the bed as the woman worked her magic.
Marlo entered the tent in which he resided and held out his hand towards Kael. “From now on, no more feuds. Truce? For the woman we both love?” “Truce,” Kael agreed and grasped Marlo’s wrist, a sign of trust in warriors.
For two days, Marlna worked on Callista trying to revive her. And on the third day, she came back and the first person to greet her was Marlna, with her toothless grin and then Reginauld, who questioned her calmly.
“Okay, so what happened Callista?”
“I-I hit Marlo,” she said breathing shakily. “I-I ran then.”
“Where did you run to?” Reginauld asked nodding his head slowly.
“To the la-lake about a mile from here.”
“What happened at the lake that made you bleed?”
“I-I don’t remember! I-I was sitting at the lake one moment and then the next I was fighting for my life. I was a-ambushed or something,” Callista said as tears began to form in her eyes.
“Please, don’t cry. I’m just trying to figure out what happened,” Reginauld said soothingly and pushed the hair away from Callista’s sweating brow.
Callista took a deep breath and closed her blue-gray eyes, and then they fluttered open. “There were men. Wearing black armour or something, and one came up to me with some kind of blunt weapon and hit me on the head. I jumped up and rushed him, throwing him into the water. There were two more and I was hit more, a-and then…I don’t remember after that,” Callista said, tears rolling down her face.
“Do you remember Rocks getting you?”
“Rocks came and got me? I don’t remember…”
“Well there are others who wish to see you. I will leave you now, and if anyone bothers you just call me okay?” Reginauld leaned down and kissed her on the forehead softly, just as Marlo entered and sat next to her.

“How are you feeling?” Marlo asked warily.
Callista suppressed a sigh and smiled weakly to him. “I’m sorry I slapped you,” she said quietly. “I’ve just been so stressed…”
“Shh, it’s okay Callista. I understand, and it was wrong of me to judge him like that,” Marlo said and grasped her hand in his. It was so cold he jumped slightly in shock at the feel; he never got cold.
She smiled and nodded to him, breathing deeply. “So…how is everything?”
“Well, I’m okay. Kael and I made a truce so no more bickering from us you can be sure of that.”
“Good.” Silence. “Callista? Do you love Kael?” he inquired, rubbing her hand absent-mindedly.
She was shocked and the expression shone clear and true on her face. “How can you even ask that? I barely even know him and here you come asking if I love him! How absurd!”
“I was just…”
“Enough. Reginauld! Please take Marlo out, he’s done now,” Callista requested as Reginauld came into the hut, carrying what looked like a sack of potatoes.
“Sure. Marlo, out,” he ordered. Marlo arose from his spot on the ground and looked at Callista with a sad expression.
“I’m sorry,” he said and stalked out.
Reginauld smiled to Callista and then nodded to the entrance of the hut where more people were waiting for her. She talked and listened and smiled, but her mind was elsewhere, thinking of Kael and of Reginauld’s sentence when she had defeated the stranger the first time they met. It was getting dark outside, and Marlna came in, carrying a tallow candle, that was lit and placed it on a piece of bark next to Callista’s head.
“How are you feeling dear?” she asked, smiling her toothy grin.
“I’m fine,” she replied truthfully.
“You worry about the stranger, Kael, yes?”
“No,” she lied, keeping her expression blank.
Marlna smiled and exhaled deeply. “I see through lies Callista, and you want Kael.”
Callista’s eyes widened in shock. “I don’t want…”
“No, no, no. You want him here.”
“Oh. Well, I was kind of hoping he would come say hello at least,” she admitted.
“He is outside, waiting for me to leave. He is sorry and wants to talk, but is nervous. Give him some edge,” Marlna said and began to walk out of the tent.
“Don’t you mean be nice?”
“Same thing.”
“Hello Callista,” Kael said after Marlna has left, his black hair was matted to his head from the rain.
“Hello,” she replied coldly. If he had not come here, none of this would have happened, she told herself firmly.
“I’m sorry,” he said.
“For ever what?”
“For coming to your camp. For ruining your life. For ruining your relationship with the man of your life. For…”
“Oh, just stop now Kael. He’s not the man of my life, and this is a good life experience for me anyways,” Callista said, flustered.
Kael smiled and seemed relieved. His icy-blue eyes studied her blue-gray eyes and his smile faded. “Am I forgiven for sending you to get hurt?”
Callista smiled and nodded her head reluctantly. Kael grabbed her hand quickly and pressed it to his face and then kissed her palm, making her gasp. “Sorry. Even though I just met you, it would hurt so bad if you had died,” he said and then put her hand down. “When did the woman say you’d be able to walk again?”
“She said I’m able to walk now, but not to exert myself so I’m lying low until tomorrow,” Callista said then laughed at her pun.
Kael smiled and continued to hold her hand. “I promise I’ll make it up to you Callista,” he said rubbing her hand to his face once more.
“How?” she inquired doubtfully.
“Love is triggered by hate,” he said, using the line Reginauld had used when they practically first met.
Callista growled and ripped her hand from his, and crossed her arms. “I hate you,” she mumbled.
“See? You just proved my point!” For once, Callista was speechless.

“Why would you say that? Just because I hate you doesn’t mean I love you,” Callista said, furiously. Even though she was happy to see him, she had to admit that she was still mad at him.
“Okay,” Kael said and arose from his spot on the floor next to her, readying to leave. “I’ll see you soon then.”
“You’re leaving?”
“Yes. I’m not going to stay here all night with you,” Kael said, surprised.
“Oh, okay. See you soon then,” Callista said and turned over onto her side, away from Kael and fell asleep.

The next morning, Callista awoke to the clash of body on body. There was a battle just outside her tent, so she threw off the blanket that was holding her down and ran out of the tent into the blinding sun. She expected to see dead bodies, burning huts, and a bloody battlefield, but instead all she saw was Rocks and Kael circling each other, sweating furiously. They were wearing nothing but their leggings and they were wrestling.
“Good afternoon Callista,” Reginauld said, beaming at her. “Good to see you up.” His burly arms were crossed over his broad chest and his slave number, 128029, was like an inky beacon on his right arm.
“It’s good to be up,” Callista admitted and smiled. “What are they doing?” She nodded her head towards the two men, making her chestnut hair bounce lightly. “What? Oh, Rocks and Kael? They’re wrestling,” Reginauld replied and watched the match.
“Oh. A test of strength.”
“Also a test of stamina, speed and intelligence.”
“Intelligence?”
“Remember when you fought Kael when he first came here, only a few days ago? You stood completely motionless and he charged you, but you were the smarter and brought him down by confusing him and being smart. Intelligence,” Reginauld explained and put his arm around the young woman.
“Oh. Who is winning?”
“So far, Kael is winning.”
Callista remained silent and watched the man that had entered their lives. He moved with a fighters’ grace and his eyes traveled from each face in the circle around them, until his icy blue eyes fell on Callista’s dark blue-gray ones. Kael smiled at her, and Rocks took the opportunity to attack Kael, who dodged to the side quickly and put his hands up in defeat.
“You’re done?” Rocks asked, surprised. He moved forward towards Kael and took his hand in an embrace.
“I could never defeat a general in bare handed combat such as you,” Kael said and clapped him on the shoulder.
Rocks beamed and noticed Callista and smiled. It was a smile of victory.
“Suit yourself,” Rocks replied and moved off towards a small bucket of water and splashed his face.
Kael, on the other hand, walked over to Callista, wiping the sweat from his dripping black hair with his tunic. “Hello Callista. It’s good to see you up.”
“It’s good to be up,” she repeated once more. “Why did you forfeit?”
“What? Oh, we weren’t going anywhere really,” Kael admitted.
“But Reginauld said you were winning.”
“Did he?” Kael looked up at the leader of the freed slaves and smiled. “He’s so generous. Rocks would have killed me if he had gotten me, were we in a real fight. But I was faster and therefore moved out of the way faster. We were not going anywhere.”
Callista nodded in agreement, not fully comprehending the battle but smiled just the same. “Why were you battling him?”
“Entertainment while we waited for you.”
“For me?”
“Yes, for you. Yesterday you had said that you would be up by now and so we wrestled until you awoke,” Kael explained, his eyes never leaving hers.
“Oh,” Callista said and blushed.
Rocks jogged over to the three companions and hugged Callista tightly. “Good to see you walking,” he said happily. “It’s hard to believe it was only four days ago that I found you at the lake.” His broad smile never faded.
“Four days? Was it really only four days?” Callista asked, her eyes wide in shock.
All three men nodded their heads grimly, but Rocks’ smile never faded. Kael clapped Rocks on the back and whispered something in his ear. He nodded and pulled away from Callista, pulling Reginauld with him, talking quickly.
“Now that we’re alone,” Kael said and remained silent. “Would you like to go for a walk with me?”
“Now? Sure,” Callista replied indecisively and walked beside Kael, who had replaced his bare chest with his sweaty tunic. “Did you want to talk about something?”
“Yes, I did actually. I know how much you hate me and you probably wouldn’t care if I died,” Kael said and smiled. “But I wanted you to be the first to know that I’m leaving by the end of five days, today being the first.”
Callista stopped walking and stared at him in shock. “Why? Where are you going? Oh right, you’re probably going to go see your wife and kids. Of course,” Callista said and continued walking.
Now it was Kael’s turn to stop walking and stare in shock. “I don’t have a wife or any kids. I’m leaving to go back to my land.”
“So why are you telling me?” Callista asked hotly.
“Just so you know.”
Callista took a sharp intake of breath and stopped walking, pounding her foot into the ground. “How utterly rude and irresponsible you are Kael! You leave your homeland to come here without any notice, and then you leave just like that without any notice! Totally irresponsible of you! It’s so typical of men,” she screamed at him. Some of the people that were a part of the freed slaves stared at them, but Callista paid them no heed.
“I told you did I not? Is that not notice enough?” Kael asked, being much calmer than his new female friend.
She glared at him angrily and clenched her jaw, then twirled on her foot and marched towards Marlna’s hut. Kael could only look in disappointment and confusion after the girl he had fallen in love with. Women are so hard to understand!

Later that night, after everyone had gone to bed, Kael finally climbed into the bed that was designated for him. He heard Callista roll over and he whispered something to her. “Callista, are you still awake?”
“Yes,” she replied coldly. “Why?”
“No reason.”
Marlo heard their little chatter and rolled over, putting his arm over top of Callista protectively. What surprised Callista the most though, was when Marlo reached over for Kael’s hand and placed it on her own.
Kael smiled and shook his head softly. He made a face that was an emotion of pain and he arched his back, drawing ever so closer to Callista, until they were a hairs breadth away. “Oh, my back is acting up again…” he began to say, but stopped for he leaned in and kissed Callista passionately on the lips, then pulled away, waiting for her to say something.
Callista blinked, looked around, furrowed her eyebrows and then leaned forward kissing him again. Finally she couldn’t stand it any longer and pulled herself as close as possible to Kael, throwing herself on top of him and throwing the fur blankets off. “I cannot believe I’m doing this,” she whispered to him. “I hope Marlo doesn’t care.”
“All he cares about is for your happiness. All I care about is you,” Kael said and pulled her neck down gently, but swiftly, and kissed her. As things became heavier, Marlo and Rocks woke up and ran out of the tent almost screaming, but laughing and smiling to each other. Kael smiled childishly at their reaction.
Rocks gave Marlo a pat on the back and congratulated him for moving on. “I haven’t moved on,” he said gravely. “Callista has moved on and if she’s happy, that makes me happy.” He smiled and walked with Rocks to the tent in which Reginauld resided so they could leave the two lovebirds alone.
The morning rays of dawn shone through the opening of the tent, on to happy Callista’s eyes. As she rolled over to place one naked arm over her lover, Kael, she noticed he was gone. The smile was still on her face as she got up and dressed quickly. The sun momentarily blinded her as she stepped out of the tent and looked around for Kael, but he was nowhere to be found. “Have you seen Kael?” she would ask whoever passed her.
“He left this morning,” one of the freed-slaves said and smiled to her.
For the rest of the day, Callista was in a lapse of depression; her lover had gone and taken her heart with him. For three days, she walked in silence neither sleeping nor eating and finally on the third day, she collapsed into the same bed she shared with Kael and fell asleep. On the fourth day, and Callista had not awakened, Kael returned with carts of items in them.
“Hello again Reginauld,” Kael said happily and grasped Reginauld’s arm. “I have brought you supplies from my land; there is food, weapons, armor, clothing and various other things for the young ones that have recently arrived. Now, where is Callista? I have something precious for her.”
“She is not awake,” Marlo said coldly, walking over to him with his arms crossed. “Since you left after making love to her, you abandoned her and she has gone into a deep depression and ‘come’, as Marlna says, and will not come out of it. She’s been asleep for a whole day, and hasn’t eaten or had anything to drink in three days! If you don’t get in there and help her, I swear to whatever deity is listening I will kill you myself!”
“Not awake? W-What? How can this be?” Kael asked, surprised by the harshness of his own voice. His icy blue eyes examined Marlo’s green eyes and saw there was no sarcasm or joy in them, and he ran to the hut. He opened the flap and saw Callista laying there, her once full cheeks were now hollow and dark rings were under her once beautiful, flawless eyes. “Callista? Callista, wake up damn it! I’m here, please wake up!” He was gripping her shoulders and shaking her violently, but she would not awaken. Kael rested his head on her chest and breathed deeply.
“Eiste to versa callista nosh iz liw rev ess,” he said to her and kissed her cold, dead lips.
“What did you say?” Callista asked, her eyes fluttering open.
“Eiste to versa callista nosh iz liw rev ess?” Kael repeated uncertainly, and then noticed that Callista was awake. “Callista! You’re awake!” He helped her sit up and hugged her tightly.
“’You are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen,’ is what you said right? Why did you leave me if you love me so?”
“I went to get some stuff for the people here. I come back and you are in a ‘coma’? I never desert my loved ones.”
“What about your homeland?” Callista asked sarcastically.
“I don’t love them as much as I love you silly,” he said and kissed her nose. “I have something for you, if you’re quite done being almost dead.” Kael pulled out a small wooden box and handed it to her.
Callista eyed him curiously and opened the box, letting out a quick gasp. “Oh, it’s beautiful,” she exclaimed, holding up the diamond necklace.
“Do you like it?” he asked apprehensively.
“I love it. Like I love you,” Callista said and kissed him passionately.
“Awww!” Rocks and Marlo said at the same time. They had entered the hut when Callista had awoken and there were tears in Marlo’s eyes as he saw the love of his life awaken.
Callista shot them both a goofy grin and grabbed Kael’s hand. “Promise me you won’t leave me like that again. Promise me.”
“I promise. Seal the deal?” Kael asked and squeezed her hand a little tighter.
“Seal the deal,” she said and kissed him again.

I didn't read all of it (regretfully, I don't have that much time) but what I did see shows promise. You have a good sense of plot, though your character development could use a little work. I like your style, and I would definitely read more if I had the chance, but your lack of description is slightly irksome. (Lol, "irksome.") It is a personal preference, I think. Not much to worry about. I like descriptive stories, just because it's my own style. Keep writing!

O.O That is one of the most amazing and touching stories I've ever read, you should DEFINITELY publish it, (add more to it first though, such as Callista's life as a sex-slave, and her and Marlo's relationship). It had everything I'd look for in a romance, the meeting, the relationship, the fiery break-up, the boy still in love with the girl not admitting it to her, a new guy walking into town, the girl repulsive that her first boyfriend doesn't approve of him... and all that jazz. But, sincerely, it took me like 10 minutes to read this entire thing, but that is the BEST short story i've read besides Ribbons and Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.
