ashlander_alpha MegaTherion777 ashlander_alpha MegaTherion777 i challenge you to name one good swedish BM band - either 2nd or 3rd wave. Naglfar, Diabolical Masquerade, Dark Funeral, Ancient Wisdom, Vinterland... dark funeral is worse than marduk. naglfar is listenable, but not good black metal. diabolical masquerade sounds like dimmu borgir meets incipit satan (while i like gorgoroth, this album is absolute crap). ancient wisdom needs to get rid of the keyboards - it ruins the atmosphere. with both of the previous two bands, they put too much emphasis on melodies to be good black metal - the atmosphere disappears. vinterland (at least in their earlier stuff) is the only band that managed to incorporate thier keyboards into the general atmosphere in a good manner. just enough melody to be "melodic" but not enough to detract from the raw atmosphere. however, their later stuff seems to depart from this, which is unfortunate. so now we have two good swedish black metal bands, bathory and vinterland So, basically, your definition of good BM boils down to "Keyfags off my genre, pl0x." rolleyes
Regarding Dark Funeral: Yeah, I know they're lacking in originality and are rather heavy on the melody, but at least they're listenable.no, not true. as i said, vintersorg does it properly. the problem with any melodic BM band, keys or not, is that the melody detracts from the raw, dark atmosphere. vintersorg found a good balance between melody and rawness. the other bands didn't, and my opinion of them would be the same whether they use keys or not. notice how i said naglfar and dark funeral weren't good BM either, and they don't use keys

Also, from your Naglfar thread:MegaTherion777 swedish black metal. more melodic than some bands, but still a really good BM band. i get to see them live with dark funeral next month! To be fair, music tastes change and mature. Ultimately though, I like my BM with keys, melody, and some cross-breeding with other genres--so call me unkvlt, fa1se, and sunb4thed, that's fine. Have some tea. *proffers*

Josh and I had a nice long discussion about evil, darkness, atmosphere, Black metal and metal last night.
We see eye to eye on a lot of things.
