"Not useless and they take care of pups, which is why... Huh. So, it's like babysitting and that is all you do. No hunting... That sounds kinda boring." He mused as he sat and listened to what Sorpresa had to offer him. She was so smart...
Of course she was! It had been her idea to kidnap him what seemed like forever ago.
"So... How you been since, uh, I saw you last? You're in a pack, right? In the South?"

Sorpresa giggled when he said it was boring. It seemed boring to her too! She remembered her omega pupsitting her when she was little and her parents were off hunting or fighting. The omega was all white and had asthma so her voice was nasal and annoying. She would barely ever let you wander off or play and she kept sending the pups to sleep by lecturing them to death with lessons.
"I've been well, yes I do have a pack in the south. I'm their scout, I can an eye on what's going on in the world and act as messenger if there's danger or important news my pack should know." She explained.

"That sounds fun... And important!" He replied as he leaned forward slightly and studied the larger Helix. It wouldn't be long before he was all grown up, though he might never be quite as large as she. One ear swiveled to one side as a bird warbled to the right.
"So, you get to wander all over, even if you do have a pack! If I was gonna be a Gamma, that's what I'd like to do. I'm thinking I'm gonna travel up North, after I finish up exploring here, what do you think, huh?"

Sorpresa nuzzled the teen with the same affection a mother would bestow on her own pups. "Just be careful up there if you go, maybe I'm just thin-furred because I live in the south but I think it is very cold up there. Lots of snow. It'll certainly put your hunting lessons to the test. Good luck on your journey." She growled softly in a reassuring way. "You have my blessings, wherever you go." She wiggled her ears, listening to the forest around her.

"It's gonna be awesome, I bet. Sure, I'll have to work hard, but I'm going to do it! Maybe once I do, I'll come back down south and visit, eh? I think I'd rather be cold than hot, but that's just me."
The youngster plopped back on his haunches and pawed at a nagging itch that had been festering behind his ear, then stood again cheerily. "D'you come to th'East often? Maybe I could catch you here, too. Might come down through here. I do like it, nice and pretty, that's for sure. Good luck with your scouting, too!"

Sorpresa's eyes glimmered sadly for a moment. "I've been coming around the East more often." She had been looking for Verdauga while still doing her scouting job. If she had done her job right he should have escaped into these mountains...somewhere. She couldn't give up hope on him yet. He had to be alive.
She brightened up for Joska's sake. "I'm sure you'll make it Joska, and thanks. I'll be sure to visit now and then. Though might not catch you often, alphas-in-training sure travel a lot." She grinned, amused. In her travels she had met many a helix. Several youths his age wandered until they found their rank and place in life. It didn't seem so long ago that he had been a young pup and now look at him! Growing fast and with big dreams.
"I have to go, if I don't leave before sunset I'll get lost in these bamboo forests." She stood and stretched stiffly, yawning. "See you later sometime Joska!"

It was impossible for Joska to miss the sadness that briefly washed over Sorpresa's lovely eyes and the youngster felt a great deal of concern for the older helix that he admired so much. She didn't seem to want to talk about it, so he did not feel he had the right to push her into speaking of her problems, but he couldn't bear leaving her with her feeling downtrodden.
"Things'll turn out." He offered hopefully, though he did not know just what ailed her. He hoped the words he chose were the right ones.
"And I'll be back when I can! Don't want you to get lost here." He gave her a confident smile and a nod as he climbed to his paws once more and tilted his head to one side.
"Take care!"
