"Uhm..." He grew silent for a moment. He hadn't ever really been part of a pack, per say. It had always been he, his siblings, and his parents. Or, well, his mother and Jaden. He still considered the red and white Alpha his father, though he knew very well that they were not related by blood.
"The Gamma... They're sort of like... The main part of the pack, right?" He thought back to the lessons he had received from his friend, Sorpresa. She had taught him a lot... But it had been a while since he had that talk with her.
"They, uh... Do stuff." He stated open endedly. "Like hunting, and things like that, right?"

Amusement brightened her blue eyes though she tried to remain passive and professional. Ah, he had hesitated. Most youngsters did, it wasn't a worry. She tried to stop the amusing shine she could feel in her eyes. The pup needed a teacher, not just a friend giving away bits and secrets of wisdom. Retaining her alpha posture and folding her wings back against her sides with practiced grace she listened to his answer.
"Vague but true, gammas are your average member of the pack. Hunting is one of their duties, yes, they have many more jobs though. They guard, protect the pack, fight if there is a battle, scout ahead, spy to look out for danger in other territories that might reach the pack sometime and put it in jeopardy. It's smart to remember what jobs they do so you do not accidentally give a wrong order. Omegas usually are not allowed to hunt for example. Gammas cannot lead a hunting party, betas or alphas lead hunting parties. Same thing with battles or raids, only led by higher ranks." She explained, watching to see if he was paying attention.
"It's important to learn because knowledge is power. Gammas look up to their alpha not only because of their strength, a leader can't lead without using his brain. To have several helixes counting on you to make important decisions that directly affect their lives is a responsibility to be taken seriously. You'll gain the respect of your pack by being intelligent. Now, do you know what 'raiding' means?" She threw out the question to catch him off guard.

And he was caught off guard. The young male stared blankly at the Alpha's paws as he pondered the sudden question that included a word he was not really familiar with. For the first time in a while, he felt truly stumped. Here he was trying to prove his worth and he was getting questions wrong.
"No ma'am. I dunno what it means, unfortunately." He admitted after a few silent moments of thinking. Even though he didn't know, once he did find out he wouldn't forget it. Each and every word his new mentor was speaking was stored away for future use.

She was honest and blunt about this topic. "Raiding is stealing, no matter how anyone tries to word it or look at it. Most raids are about getting food to your pack. While not the most honorable thing to do, raiding can save your pack during a time of starvation. Leaders will do almost anything to protect the well being of their pack. It becomes more common when prey is scare so guard your territory well during those times. They'll come up with plenty of excuses to trick you. What they'll do is send out a large hunting party and plenty of battle-ready warriors to guard them. They'll be sent out into enemy territory to steal prey for their pack. It's asking for trouble but when faced with so many mouths to feed sometimes leaders will do it anyway."
"Then their are the pup raiders." Her voice darkened with hate at the words 'pup raiders' as if they were a curse word. "Packs in need of more members and unable to make them fast enough may just send out a few sneaky helixes that would steal pups right out of their dens. I remember such a case back when I was young. My aunt had just had pups a few weeks ago. I was a little younger than you are now, eagerly waiting for them to grow up enough to play with me. One night they disappeared, my Aunt howled and cried for weeks. She never really felt safe again, knowing that a helix had slipped by everyone and still managed to steal her babies away. We found them later but by then it was too late. They didn't remember us at all, they were loyal to their other pack." She looked down at her student. "Sorry, I try not to let my personal emotions and opinions not get in the way of my teaching."
