Panada is a simple dish for sick people; it appears over and over in the 19th century cookbooks. Put a crumbled soda cracker in a small bowl of boiling water with two or three lumps of sugar and grate a little fresh nutmeg over it.
That sounds like something I read in this ancient book tht my landlords had! (seriously, it was sooooooo old! I was in love with it. It had all these tips for ladies and all these neat stories. OMG) it was something they fed to the sick and bedridden cuz it was simple and easy but still a food . Though really wasn't all that nutricious..
