One of my friends has introduced me to an incredible site called
Better World Books. It's a fantastic company that sells books online, sometimes at very, very cheap prices, and the best part is that every purchase helps a literacy program somewhere in the world. There's plenty of information on the actual page, but one of the biggest ways they've influenced me is by making it easy for me to donate books to those who truly need them.
Just today, I packed two boxes, ten books each, and printed off the necessary slips to put in and on the boxes. Voila! Shipping is already payed by the company, and I know that my books might be bought by someone perusing the site, or may even help a child learn to read.
However, they do have some standards, and some of my books weren't accepted as donations. I'm curious to see if there are any other charities like this online where books are greatly needed.
~ Do you know any great book charities?
~ If you don't, where do you donate your books? Are they local?
