Less than an hour from Thesys orbit, Cassandra leaned back and closed her eyes, listening to a conversation many, many lightyears away.

She opened her eyes at one point to stare emptily into space. Why does that sound... familiar? Why... oh. She closed her eyes again, shoulders slumping slightly. She's like I was, back then... The Kore is her Union.

The writer in charge of Cassandra, Dem, and most random other happenings on Thesys right now wrote down a very nice few scenes of exactly what went on between Cassandra's landing and departure. Unfortunately, said writer wrote the scenes on paper, which she is loathe to transcribe to digital media at this time. Therefore...

Cassandra landed on Thesys. Cassandra and Dem had a little talk. Dem sent Cassandra into an unpleasant, memory-filled orange space, from which she found herself transported directly into a computer game that hadn't existed since before the Mimics. Cassandra also did not go anywhere, but stayed standing in front of Dem on Thesys, because through a complicated twist, the part of her that had been sent into the past had rejoined her past self and lived almost completely dormant inside herself for another several hundred years, and had figured out how to outwit Dem in that second lifetime.

Dem was confused and not pleased. Cassandra vowed to leave Dem alone for 5 whole years if Dem surrendered Tu's body and remaining spirit. Dem gave Tu up to Cassandra. Cassandra took Tu back to her spaceship, and they left Thesys.

Cassandra is headed out into space, generally away from Thesys but without particular direction. She's debating when and how to return Tu to either her sisters or to Arch and Ruby, and whether there is somewhere safe she can leave Tu in the meantime while she deals with the rest of Haldis' mess.

Tu, after given some time to recover, had a little to say about the situation herself. Although putting her somewhere safe would have been a smart decision, Tu didn't feel she needed a baby sitter. She instead insisted she be let go to set out to find her ship and crew, so she could get back to doing what she did best, bossing people around.

Cassandra glanced back at her immobilized (just for transport reasons! Of course!) passenger after Thesys was a few lightyears behind them.

"I don't know if you can understand this, Hollow," she said calmly, "but you have no soul right now. If I let you go, you would, yes, keep doing whatever you normally do... but you would never change. You could not easily learn new things, nor react to events beyond your realm of experience. You're a doll. It's a lot like a lobotomy. And, like someone missing part of their brain, some random soul can come along and fill in what's missing..." She leaned back in her chair for a moment, her gaze and voice growing distant. "You'd be nothing at all."

Cassandra shook out of the thought and turned to face her instruments again. "I'm taking you to Arch. Even more than Ruby, he'll know how to get your soul back. And more than that, he's probably the only one around who not only can but would want to." She punched in a few coordinates, setting their course on a large slingshot Up-SouthEast, where she sensed Ruby and Arch's distinctive combination of energy.

((Um... where should I find them? x_x))

((Likely hanging out in the bus or something, I suppose. But I'm not particularly sure, we'll have to check up with Nate on that.))

((Right. And, of course, I have no address, phone number, or gamertag for Dunham. I'm about as comfortable approaching him as Cassandra here is approaching Arch, if for technically different reasons... *cough*))

((I should certainly hope so! I was trying so hard not to kill her myself... Um, no offense. I enjoy killing characters. Bad habit. I actually like Tu.))

((Well Arch will save her, no worries. He's not happy, but I think that's more of a pride thing at this point, so hey))

The ship Tu and Cass were flying on froze up, slowing to a halt. Arch appeared in the ship, narrowed eyes, not that anyone could tell.
"Theh ehwl appehend toh 'ehr?"

Cassandra tried very hard not to freak out, but failed almost completely. Her eyes bugged out and she shook uncontrollably for a moment, trying to kill hard-won reflexes of Intruder! Attack now! and gripping the arm of her chair so hard that it was so much scrap metal in an instant. The moment ended with her wheezing for breath and blinking tears from her eyes.

With a still-trembling hand, Cassandra reached out and pressed a button that released Tu from her restraints. Haltingly, she explained, "No soul. Not me. You fix it. ...Please. I can't."

She didn't look up, careful to keep her gaze at the space between the control panel in front of her and the floor next to her. This sudden appearance--and stopping her shuttle dead in the middle of space--was not what she'd expected. She had expected to find Arch and Ruby on some cozy little planet somewhere, probably one they'd bought themselves with hundreds of years' worth of money and favors. Or on vacation. Or visiting Tu's siblings. In retrospect, Cassandra knew that that had been a series of stupid thoughts... Arch probably had some magic mirror or God-knows-what jury-rigged alarm system to let him know when people were looking for him and where they were at any given instant. This was Arch, after all.

And if she kept berating herself about how stupid she was, she might just manage to keep her thoughts from straying into his head to satisfy hundreds of years of curiosity about his eye color. At least, that was her hope. Sometimes telepathy was a bad habit.

((Like killing characters! biggrin ))

Cass found that Arch's mind was unreadable. Whether she tried to read it or not, one doesn't need to try and climb a wall to find it too tall.

Arch made a brief muttering about 'soul' being a silly term as he walked up to Tu, looking over her.

"Hahw dihd thihs 'ahwpehn?" He asked calmly, giving Cass a weird glance at her inner-turmoil over his intrusion.

"Soul is not a silly term," Cassandra replied sharply. Then she remembered who she was talking to all over again and got ahold of herself, continuing much more calmly, "I'm not sure how is was done, or exactly when, or... by whom, to be fair. A girl I was trying to keep tabs on up and had a mental breakdown, got possessed by so many spirits I can't count them all, and the mass of them were sitting on Thesys for a time... where Tu was. When everyone else got evacuated, she and a few hundred others went to ground and managed to survive... kind of... The spirits took over, in place of the originals. Tu was not..."

She paused, then finally said, "Tu was not completely evicted, I guess. She has her memories--most of them--and the basic tenets of her personality, but she's on autopilot. Either a new spirit possesses her and destroys what's left of her, or her soul comes back and she continues onward..." Cassandra took a deep breath. "...or she dies, I suppose. Eventually." She closed her eyes and looked up, still not trusting herself to stay away from his mind. The last time she'd tested the wrong immortal mind, the person's defenses had thrown her back in time almost 400 years, and she didn't put it past Arch to have something similar set up. Or worse. "I took her from Thesys because she had to be some kind of tool to the entity there. She was the only one not completely gone, and there had to be a reason for that."

"Hmm." Arch nodded.

He walked over to Tu, picking her up gently in his arms. "Ahwm taihkih' 'ehr. Ahwl taihke caihre uhf iht."

Cassandra nodded, turning back to her controls and opening her eyes without looking at anything in particular. "Thank you."
