As Athena threw out her suggestions of how to mark their targets, Legolas soon smiled softly before nodding. Everything she said sounded quite fair, and her little concoction to make the marks was quite ingenious. At least that's what he thought.

"That sounds quite wonderful. And that was quite clever of you to think of a nice marking material."

With a nod, he thought for a moment, to think about what else they would need.

"So how about we each lay out five targets, then once that's done we walk through the course so that we are familiar with the path. Then once we're ready we shall begin our competition."

Athena smiled and bowed her head slightly in gratitude for his kind words. The other elder was so very wise and probably quite old, so it seemed like the highest compliment for him to praise her ideas and her work. Athena paused for a moment to listen to what he had to say before replying, "Very well then, that sounds like a good number to me! And... seeing as I only have one pouch of each color, we will have to take turns marking our targets." She smiled slightly before continuing, "You may mark your five first, I would appreciate the time to check and see if all my arrows are ready and in order... If that is alright with you..." Athena trailed off, and looked at her feet, still hoping she did not seem impudent to such an amazing elder.

The elven elder noted that Athena seemed to be trying to not be disrespectful towards him. It was lightly amusing in a sense, but it also increased his own respect for her. Whoever her parents were, they raised her quite well he believed.

"That sounds quite wonderful," he said with a light grin and reaching to take the pouch so that he may begin setting out half their targets.

Once doing so, he looked around the area, trying to plot out somewhat of a route that wouldn't be too simple nor too random. After a few moments, he went on to begin. Though, he did pause momentarily to make sure that the female adult was coming along as well so that she would be able to get the first part of their competition down as well.

Athena smiled gently and let her hair fall in front of her face as she looked away from Legolas' grin. It was strange, the feeling she got from being around this new elder. Maybe it was because Athena had never been around another elder before, so she was just flustered from the new presence; but Athena couldn't be too sure. She straitened herself and took a couple arrows out of her quiver, examining each of them quickly as she briskly walked along with Legolas. The examination of her arrows was a soothing process to Athena, it helped her get her mind off of these strange new feelings of respect and puzzlement that she was experiencing.

Then again, Athena was never very good at controlling her curiosity, and she felt her eyes inescapably drawn to Legolas. Here was the man who had inadvertently saved her life in the greatest battle she had been in since her escape from the human world, and the same man was now looking forward to playing an archery game with some one so young as herself. Athena was confused and conflicted, how was she supposed to feel about him? Were they friends? Or was he more of the mentor figure...? Athena did not have very good social skills, not like her brother, and it pained her that she could not ask Thor what to do in this situation...

Legolas was careful in choosing out where to place his five targets, but over all it didn't take too long for him to lay the five out. As he did it, he was aware that Athena was watching him. However he just took it as her see where he was placing each mark. So in a sense, he was a bit oblivious to what was going on.

Once he was done laying everything out, the elder stopped and looked back over the area he had just covered. Satisfied with it, he made his way back towards the female and held out the pouch for her to take back.

"There.. that should do it, so I believe it is your turn to pick out some targets."

He really hadn't had so much of a chance to have a friendly competition like this in a very long time, so this was rather refreshing in a sense. Athena was rather pleasant company as well, which made the experience thus far better in his opinion.

Athena shook her head a bit to clear it of the ridiculous thoughts running through her mind. He was a decent man, with a sweet demeanor, and Athena felt bad for thinking of him as anything else but an acquaintance when she knew so little about him. It reminded her of the crush she had on one of her human teachers when she was in a human school. She knew nothing about the man, but because he looked nice, behaved more mature than the teen boys, and was in a position of power, all of the girls in her class decided he was the perfect man.

Athena was going through that cycle again, and she knew it wasn't fair for Legolas, who was just looking for a fun time, if she suddenly started to pursue him. In the human world she would just bat her eyelashes and flip her hair and any boy she liked would come chasing after her. But this was different, she was a dragonfly now, yet she knew nothing of how dragonfly worked! It was infuriating, but that was life, and Ahtena knew she would just have to live with it. She sighed and then smiled, gingerly taking the pouches of paint back from Legolas, making sure not to touch his hand.

"Excellent choice of targets good sir! And I do believe it is my turn..." Athena said and trailed off again, looking around herself curiously, trying to find trees that would be as good of targets as Legolas's. She smiled happily and returned the last remaining arrows in her hands to her quiver before striding off and marking her own 5 trees. Athena was rather used to this, so her circles were proportional and the bullseye was neither ridiculously small nor big. After she had made sure that all her targets were perfect, Athena returned her paint pouches to her belt and turned around to face Legolas once more.

"Well then, now that we are all ready, I have been pondering on how this will work. We should start and finish in the same place, but I think we should take different routes while shooting. My thoughts are like this, if we are going for speed and if we go in the same direction, we will constantly be running into one another and truly fighting for each target. This way, if we go in opposite directions, we can complete the target loop and travel the same distance, but just indifferent directions. Does this make sense...? The one the gets the extra 5 points at the end for speed will be the first person to attempt one shot at each of the ten targets and return to the starting point. Sound fair...?"
