Those were the first words I spoke to him
There, as I heard the door rattle and the bells chime
When he walked in, looking rather grim

And then he ducked his head
And flashed a grin at this Madame
Like a good southern gentleman, he said
“I’m sorry, ma’am.”

I offered him my hand,
And he took it without second thought.
I told him what fate had planned
For us, and I knew, there at that spot

He was the hope I had seen,
And I was the hope he had needed.
Now we could become clean,
And be ourselves, and to have heeded

The advice that came from deep within,
From his depression and my visions.
We were given the chance to begin again,
And we embraced it with two quick decisions.

Love may have saved us,
But hope was what made us
Believe in the possibility of us
And opened our hearts, thus

Saving us from the terror
That we were destined to be.
That is why hope is all the rarer
In those like you and me.
