I wanted to post this since I didn't see a topic about it yet. I hope I'm doing this right.
Around mid-September, Brooke Smith was fired from the cast of Grey's Anatomy. She was written off of the show in episode seven: Rise Up.
The decision was extremely abrupt, and she was not even given a proper ending to her storyline.
As I'm sure you all know, Brooke's character, Erica Hahn, had just begun a relationship with Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez). In episode six, Life During Wartime, Erica had a revelation that she was a lesbian. This was told through a wonderful monologue about glasses and seeing leaves.
It was right after filming this speech that Smith was informed that she was being written off the show.
This is a horrible injustice, and a kick in the gut for Grey's fans and the LGBT community.
If you feel as strongly about this as I do, please sign the Hope 4 Hahn petition, located here.
There is also a facebook group with more information on this situation here.
On livejournal, there's a group dedicated to this: hope4hahn
And there's also a group dedicated to the Erica/Callie relationship, where the pairing is being kept alive through fanfiction, art, and more. This group also posts updates about the various campaigns surround this situation: erica_callie
I urge you to sign the petition and join the various groups. Fans of Brooke Smith, Erica Hahn, and the Erica/Callie relationship should not go quietly!
