And then there's the nature vs nurture argument, and how that plays in--are demons the way they are because of their culture, or is it an inherent thing? Are they born with the tendency to fight, or do they have to do so to survive?

I just go off the wall with this one. Since so many people write stupid things like Hiei liking ice cream (to the point of obsession) and Kuronue being a big, slimy pervert, I figure no one's going to scream at me if I play around with demonic culture and the way they live. lol.

Well, I recall Togoru mentioning that when he gained a demon body, he became a lot more aggressive and he said like, that he had to kill or something like that...Ignore my butchering of quotes. Lol XD No but anywho, what I caught from that is that it's just kinda in their DNA (which is a generalization of course, I mean, look at Yukina. : 3)

Not to mention are a human and thus are biased as to how one would react to things. Writing Hiei, and Kurama ESPECIALLY is so difficult just because of the emotions they do or don't have. Kurama's super difficult because he's plays both teams (NOT LIKE THAT), human and demon. v_v;

Lawlz. Totally like that in my torrid fangirl imagination, and also on the internets.

Teekaymon
But yeah...I remember it being very..."Omfg, I think he murdered that child...And he seems cool with it...o.O"

He really wasn't all right with it. He was enraged and torn up by guilt, and even Gourmet/Elder Toguro remarked on that after reading his mind.

As dark as that part was, I found it brilliant, really. Kurama figured out what was going on with Amanuma, made his decision before he even started talking, and then proceeded to use the full and exact truth as a devastating psychological weapon that was the only thing that allowed him to win -- and all this while blindingly angry and fighting an enormous amount of guilt. I felt so bad for both Kurama and Amanuma that I practically wept all over the DVD box.

Hm. I believe it was actually Koenma who was saying that Toguro's demon instincts were driving him, and Toguro disagreed immediately, saying that he was making those choices freely.

A certain level of instinctual aggression is likely, given the way the demon world appears to be, but as sentient beings, demons are as capable as humans of peace in the right setting. That setting just doesn't happen to exist in very many places in the Makai. Essentially, I vote nature and nurture both.

Well no, okay, like you sorta refreshed my memory and I think this is how it went. Koenma or someone mentioned that Toguro's demonic instincts were driving him to violence and Toguro disagreed saying he was the one who had the steering wheel. He could decide whether or not to act upon those instincts.

Broken Hearted Hiei

What crack has Lilly-chan stumbled into? crying

The sweet snow is definitely bad. I can see Hiei eating ice cream, but not having hissy fits over not having any or calling it by that horrid name.

Oh, yeah, no. I don't have a problem with Hiei simply eating ice-cream (although I don't know how common it is in Japan, and if it's eaten the same way as it is in the U.S.) It's when, like you said, he calls it "sweet snow" and acts like someone once spiked a bowl of his with heroin.

I actually couldn't see Hiei being particularly fond of sweet foods. If anything, I think he'd like it spicy. But either way, like you said, if HIei was just eating ice cream, I wouldn't throw a fit, but if throwing a tantrum over it or starts playing jankin or kissing people for it (shivers at the terrible terrible works of fanfiction she's read) that's where I draw the line.
