((Takes place before Bushfire/Fi.)) It had been awhile since she'd been visited by that strange Medic, claiming he'd been sent by some big, dark-feathered fellow who'd told him she was available, but Fiercefire hadn't forgotten. She'd just been busy, what with her sister coming to stay and all. Whenever she was been able to find the time, though, she was paying visits one-by-one to the Shadow and Deep Woods males in the area. She would find out who'd sent the blue-eyed Mist, and once she did, she was going to give them a piece of her mind!
She wasn't exactly looking forward to this one, though - the Seeker. Settling on a branch at the border of his territory, she let out a hoot.

He looked up from what he was usually doing- talking down to Fernroot- before letting out a disgruntled hoot back. Bracken had no idea why all of Noctua saw fit to visit him lately, but it annoyed him immensely. He had snooping to do, blast it! And information to mull over, and people to visit, and traps to concoct... The little Mus ran away quick like always, worming her way into some hole where she could not be yelled at further. He sighed- she'd better be doing her job when he came back from all this, or he just might have an early dinner. "What now?" he grumbled to himself, and waited on his perch, too angry to greet the visitor at the door. If they wanted to talk to him, they could come find him themself.

As she hopped off the branch and headed in the direction the Seeker's hoot had come from, Fi had to wonder if he'd have permitted her in if he knew who was coming to call. Most everyone she'd called on lately had seemed to regret letting her into their territory, once it turned out to be her.
...of course, it didn't help that she hadn't ben terribly polite, but they were the ones who'd started all this. It took her a bit to find Bracken, but eventually her came into view, and she alighted on a nearby branch.
"Bracken."

It took a moment before he realized that yes, it was Fiercefire, and yes, she had come into his territory... willingly. Despite how they felt about each other. He might have been shocked, if he had not been so consumed with rage. What in blazes was she thinking? But she was a daft in the head female, and Bracken thought that explained it all.
He completely puffed up, head tufts nearly going flat against his head. "Oh, it's you," he snapped, feathers ruffling, "What do you want?"

"Oh, stop looking like something crawled up your vent," Fi chided, actually looking fairly comfortable - no puffing, only a slight tilt of her eartufts. To think all she had to do to get him riled up was to exist! She'd reached the point where she found such behavior from her neighbors amusing. She could make them uncomfortable, upset, angry, all without so much as a twitch of a talon.
"I just thought, Seeker, you might know something about our local Medic."

"Rude as ever," Bracken grumbled to himself, but his initial apprehension began to die down, his feathers smoothing themselves a little. He didn't know how to react to someone so unoffended.
"I might," he snapped, "What does it matter to you, Mist?" It had been awhile since he'd called Fiercefire by her first name, and he didn't plan on doing it any time soon. He shifted on his perch in irritation.

"Well, you see, it would seem one of my neighbors decided to tell him I'm single." Fi shifted her weight, idly inspecting her talons. "Which seems rather odd, considering you're all ridiculously preoccuppied with the fact that I'm not."

"Hmph." Was that all females thought about? Bracken nearly rolled his eyes. What kind of a thing was that- worth all this hassle just to find out a measly scrap of information about courtship drama? He neglected to remember that he was the one hellbent on courtship drama as well.
"I don't know what you're talking about," he said moodily, glaring at a nearby branch, "I want you out of the territory, you damnable Mist, you and that poor excuse for a male. Who else you court is none of my concern!" And frankly, he didn't care- if Fiercefire wanted to double team her own mate, then that was her business. He just wanted her gone, or at the very least, ruined.

"Really now? He said it was a fellow with dark feathers." She'd been through most of the neighbors that applied to, trying to fish out who it had been. It was always possible it hadn't been Bracken, but he was awfully, well...it seemed like something he might try.
Fi narrowed her eyes disapprovingly. "It's my territory - you want me out of it, you're going to have to do it the old-fashioned way." She snorted, amused by the very idea. "As if you could."

"There are many Sentinels with dark feath-- what!" was all he could think to say, and it took entirely too long for him to feel properly insulted. She thinks she's better than me?!
Bracken's anger flared- he puffed up quickly, his ear tufts almost completely flat, as he spread his wings out in an effort to look bigger than he actually was. An abberant-loving female thinks she's better than me!
The most he could do was open and close his beak several times, until it snapped shut with a final, audible clack. The nerve of her! He could very well drive her out of that territory! He, he... his eyes narrowed into slivers of yellow.
"You'd do well to guard your nest," the Seeker hissed at last, "Or you might lose track of it the next time you check." But really, it was an idle threat. Some part of Bracken knew he couldn't take on Fiercefire- some part of him knew he couldn't feasibly take on Basil, either, but his pride wouldn't let him accept it.

Now that was a priceless reaction if she'd ever seen one! Fiercefire laughed and shifted on her perch, opening her wings slighty. "Well then," she said with a chuckle, "I suppose I should be getting back. You know, to...guard my nest."

"That's right!" he said, bobbing up a little, as if to shoo her away, "Now go!"
Damnable female! But at least she'd taken the hint. Bracken still looked very angry, but at the very least he felt satisfied that she had taken his threat to heart. He didn't know what the laughing was about, though. Nervous laughter, perhaps?

Fiercefire rolled her eyes, but took her leave nonetheless. If she'd known Bracken didn't realize she was being sarcastic, she would have stayed a little longer to laugh at him more. As it was, she still cackled to herself all the way home.

Bracken watched her go, frowning deeply to himself, and eventually went back to his work- checking around for Fernroot. It was true that he'd sent that Medic after her... but she didn't have to know that, did she? And apparently his plan had failed. He went to go grump about it in private, hoping to never have to come in contact with her much again.
