  Ears pinned back, the larger of the two Kitsusagi whimpered silently, panic clear in her eyes. Beside her, the permakit reached out to pat at her forearm comfortingly. "It's alright, Xara - we couldn't have wandered that far. Lets try to find our way back. Either way, if we're gone for too long, your siblings may try to come looking for you, so..."
He trailed off as he realized his words weren't getting through to the other Kitsusagi. Instead, Xara continued to sit there, her tails curled tightly around her body and her ears still flattened against her skull.
Frowning in concern, Knight stood up, patting Xara again to get her attention. "Here, why don't you just sit here? I'll scout around, and see if I can find the way bac -"
He was cut off when Xara responded by shaking her head quickly, the look on panic in her eyes only growing. She had lived a rather sheltered life, protected from others by her family. The idea of being left alone in a forest - where she could encounter strangers - terrified her. Especially since she had no means of communicating.

 Souls... 2 of them, in the forest. Innocent.
The Kitsu was used to being an 'it', an inanimate object with a will of its own. A gender seemed like such a useless state for a sword, but in this new body... Its will is trapped in the body of a male. From what he had gathered, his last memories were of his fallen wielder and his man, as well as the betrayer who had used him against his will and corrupted him... Then what else? A blank... Was that all?
The Kitsu was larger than average, but he moved quietly despite of it. Still, he wasn't meant for speed... A claymore was not a light weapon.
"Greeting... Young ones..."
His voice penetrated their minds, and he identified the female as being a mute. Well, no matter... It wasn't as if he could talk using his mouth anyway. His glowing eyes turned to her, and he blinked at her. He was still not used to making expressions, but he knew she had a look of fear on her face.
"Do not be afraid of me or the circumstances you are in. Compared to where I've been, this forest is peaceful. I am Ardin, and you can talk in my presence, for I can listen to you. Nobody is truly silent in this world... I hear whispers wherever I go."
{He can sort of hear their thoughts, but not their inner thoughts. Only things they want him to know / hear. He's not a mind-reader in that sense. XD}

[[ Oh ho! That's handy! Finally someone Xara can talk to when it's not a full-moon! xD ]]
Her sense of fear only heightened with the arrival of the other Kitsusagi. As she stumbled backwards, the little permakit darted in front of her, showing great courage for someone of his size. It really was like a scene from a storybook - a knight protecting the princess. Only the knight was but a little kit in this case, and the princess was simply a timid, and mute, female.
Upon hearing his voice so suddenly in their heads, the two jumped in alarm. The alarm gradually turned into wariness for Knight, and genuine curiosity for Xara.
Having heard what he said, and having decided to test it out, Xara tilted her head to the side, rising to take a couple of steps towards the other Kitsusagi. 'I...how did you do that?' She asked, mentally. Then, realizing her potential rudeness, Xara dipped her head hastily, 'I...um. My name is Xara. And this is Knight.'
She motioned towards the permakit, who had been watching her curiously while she attempted to communicate to the strange Kitsusagi.

"Knight..." Ardin repeated the little kit's name in Xara's mind, and let out a soft chuckle that echoed. Throwing the permakit a side glance, he would have smiled if he knew how to, "What a fitting name for this young one. It seems that what he lack in size, he makes up in courage... How interesting. He seems to be rather protective of you-"
He turned his attention back to the female in front of him, "Xara."
Allowing his voice to be projected into both their minds, Ardin nodded briefly as he sat down in front of the duo, "Apologies if I had startled the both of you, but I cannot speak like most living creatures can... In fact, this is the only way I can communicate with others. I was on my way to what others had told me was the 'headquarters' of this place, and was just passing by."
