He had heard some sort of wheezy-giggly noise, and looked at Naida suspiciously...but if she was laughing, it was impossible to tell.

Her answer to the first question wasn't surprising, but the second was. So she was used to not having legs? Good! Cain answered cryptically. He shook his head 'no' at her question, the name not even ringing a tiny bell. Who is she?

As they spoke, the wind picked up, skidding loose flurries across the top of the snow. The flakes stung the eyes and found every c***k in Cain's fur and nook in Naida's coat; Cain got the faint, disturbing impression of impatience at how long the two children were sitting here. But where else could they go?

Naida rubbed her nose, which was going all pink and runny with cold, and squinted miserably in the direction of the wind. She got the impression that it was trying to push them somewhere, and suddenly, obstinately wanted to go in the exact wrong direction. Not that it would do any good, she thought, without knowing quite how she knew. They had to follow it, sooner or later. She wondered if Cain felt it too.

With a slightly breathless sigh that was lost in the wind, she looked down at Cain's answers. Her face fell when she read his second one, although she was not really surprised. Regina wasn't here, after all, and the end of the party had been so sudden and scary and hypnotic that nobody could have been expected to notice anything.

My frend, she answered, then cupped her hands around her mouth and huffed steam into them. The tips of her fingers had gone numb from writing in the snow, and suddenly she wished she had respectable winter gloves instead of the flimsy superhero costume ones she was wearing now. Still, she wanted to ask him about the wind, even if she wasn't sure what she wanted to ask.

The wind hear is funny, she wrote, without knowing quite what she was saying. It was like...like almost recognizing someone, but not quite, or almost remembering an old word. Funny like that.

An icy chill had ravaged Alex's small form. His bare knees had buckled together as he felt snow surround his ankles. He had not been prepared for something so eventful, and, again he found himself contemplating the ridiculous wonders of having not glued himself to a coat. On his word, he would never leave Izzy's apartment without one again!

That did not solve the remarkable issue of things. There was a dread to his stomach. Where were they? What had just happened? His mind was a flurry of confusion, but a portion of him mentioned not to worry. It would be okay. Everything would be fine - no matter what.

Alex had shifted his leg somewhat, looking down as if to distinguish whether Raven was there still or not. Having found her put an ease to his mind, yet he wondered: were they alone? Of course not. They couldn't be alone. He could feel it somewhere within his stomach. They couldn't be alone in a cold, desolate wasteland.

He had huffed lightly, rubbing his shoulders in earnest. "Christ, it's cold!" He had chattered vigorously, twisting himself about in discomfort. "Cold. Cold. Cold."

He had paused, looking all about him before back at Raven. "You okay?"

Raven groaned at the sound of two muffled voices, one distant and one familiar and close. Her face was so numb with frostbite that it took until the sensation of being wet hit her first, before the feeling of cold. When the cold hit, it hit hard, and she jumped up out of the snow, barely able to control her shivering. Wiping off the layers of caked snow from herself and her clothes, her eyes spotted Alex who's voice she had heard.

"I-I'm..." she began to say, as her teeth began to chatter.

Or at least, they would've chattered had she any. Instead, the beak that had grown out of Raven's face snapped and quivered as she spoke.

"Ahh!" she screamed in surprise, putting her hand to her mouth in embarrassment, and she looked down at her bare feet to see that they were black and thick, and weren't cold at all. Her body also felt weird, like she could be blown away at any minute by the wind that was pushing her towards the forest. Looking about frantically, she noticed that her eyesight was clearer than normal, as she could make out the distant textures of the trees in surprising detail, as well as the figures that were about twenty yards away from them.

"A-A-le-x," she finally managed to shiver. "W-what's g-g-going on?"

Alex had been as preoccupied with the cold. There was something of a numbness settled within him. His knees felt flighty, warm, but chilled all the same, and a tickling sensation would ruffle with any slight change of the wind. When he thought about it, his arms felt rather odd as well - but he had not paid attention, nor had he looked.

As Raven had risen from the ground and brushed the snow away from her, his eyes had grown wide. He had taken a few steps back, his mouth agape. "R-Raven, your mouth!" He had yiped. "Y-your mouth!" He had repeated himself, looking down at his knees and paying a bit of attention. Just as she had screamed, he had felt himself on the verge of it. His face had grown long at the sight of feathers previously not there. What?

"I...I don't know. I don't know!" He had stammered, wrapping his arms about himself. That only made him a bit more uncomfortable. Feathers on his arms. Feathers on his legs. At least he ... His hand had clapped over his mouth to check for a beak. No beak! At least his mouth was normal.

"T-t-there has to be something." His teeth were beginning to chatter. "Do you see anything?" He had turned his head, squinting and looking out into the snow. He thought he could make out two figures, but ... He wasn't sure. His head had snapped back to Raven. It was more than bizarre, and though Alex didn't want to admit it, it was an unnerving sight. It was different. They had to figure out what was going on. Maybe someone had a clue?

"Is anyone out there?" He had called in the direction of the figures he thought he had seen. He had staggered a bit in the snow, heaving a great breath. "Hello?"

Raven stood shivering and squinted against the snow and shouted over to Alex, her voice getting caught a little bit in the wind, and herself getting used to her new mouth.

"Oh my god Al-lex there are l-iittle kids o-over there!" Raven said, completely undermining her own age. "What the heck-k are they doing out here? C-come on, they might be hurt!"

Her mind working fast, Raven began to trudge through the snow, which wasn't as deep as it was thick due to the permafrost. She was so glad that her feet couldn't feel anything or else she knew that she wouldn't have been able to take a bare step in the freezing snow. She had hoped that maybe the kids were from around here so that they could help them out, but as she approached them, the familiar feeling of there being different Eden's in the area became clear. It took a few minutes but Raven eventually made it over to the kids and crouched down to look them over frantically. On inspection they seemed to be okay but she wanted to make sure.

"H-hey you two. Are you alright? No broken bones or nothing?"

Naida had a habit of not paying attention to anything until it was absolutely necessary, which made the world infinitely more surprising. She probably should have heard the voices over the wind, and she probably should have noticed the girl trudging over to them, but as it was the girl might as well have stepped straight out of a passing flurry of snow for all she expected her.

She stared open-mouthed at her for a moment, taking in her beak and her clothes and her sheer bigness, and then nodded uncertainly. Her lips began to form an answer to the question before she remembered that there wasn't any sound. She blushed and rubbed her throat with an apologetic expression, hoping the girl would understand. Cain could explain, maybe. She looked at him imploringly, then at the girl, studying her with some reservation. She was older, which was frightening, and a part of her face was a beak, which was also frightening, but she looked nice and older and grown-up, and Naida couldn't help but feel reassured in spite of everything.

It took a lot of courage to not run and hide behind Naida as the bird-girl approached. Cain goggled at the beak, holding his ground, even when Raven loomed over the two toddlers. It helped when she crouched down. And she was acting a lot like Darby when she got panicked...except with less cursing.

He nodded along with the other toddler. Naida looked like she wanted to say something; he caught her imploring glance and slumped a little, realizing writing in the snow was rude with someone who could talk. But he sounded so stupid!

"Wweerr fine." he said, resigned, still eyeing her bird features curiously. "Wwho arr you? Did you come frrom the parrtty?"

Alex had trudged after Raven. The wind and snow had nipped away at him, sending something of a chill until the cold no longer seemed to hurt. He felt numb, but that scarcely stopped him from moving along and enduring the awkward feelings of his body. It was a foreign sensation, but it was only a fragile portion of matters glued to his mind. They were lost in the snow, and there was the possibility of others being lost --- there were others lost, Raven had mentioned little kids!

He had breathed when they had reached the two, staring at each of them wide-eyed and sympathetically. It was freezing, and they were likely cold. He was cold. Cold.

"Glad to hear that you're fine." He had breathed something that sounded like relief before glancing at Raven. Who were they? Well. "I'm Alex. She's Raven." He had motioned briefly towards her before wrapping his arms about himself and biting down on his lip.

Raven nodded at Alex's response confirming what their names were.

"Y-yeah, we came from the party," Raven shivered, absentmindedly looking around for some kind of shelter, her attention kept going back to the woods. They seemed dark and spooky...but they were thick, and Raven remembered Shane explaining something about why it's so windy in certain open spaces near their house and how it can be warmer if one simply sticks to the treeline.

"L-listen, we've g-gotta get out of here before we all f-freeze. L-let's make a break for the f-forest...the tr-rees will brr-block the wind...there m-might even be a hollow o-or something where we can stay." Raven didn't wait for a response because there didn't seem to be anywhere else in the whole tundra for them to go. Instead she took hold of Naida's hand and started to lead her along so she wouldn't get lost.
