You want to join The Brink of Time? Excellent. The question is.... How do you do it? Well, here we go

First, you should see if there are any openings. The amount of openings will be updated in the subject line of this thread. If there are no openings, you'll be wasting your time sending in an application.

Second, you'll want to apply. The application process is handled in two parts. A written section and a role play audition. Begin by PMing me (Tavin) the written section. This section will consist of three parts:
A) A Character Biography. Obviously, we want to know about your character. Pretty darn important. We highly suggest that you use the template that we have provided for you below.
B) Role playing experience. We want to know about you. Or more specifically, what experience you've had in playing fictional characters. Don't be afraid to list whatever you consider to be RP experience. Hey, we're all easily impressed. If you really don't have any experience, don't worry too much about it. We've had a few people in here already who had no previous experience, and they certainly... uh... blossomed into very adept players.
C) A writing sample. Just a sample of your writing that involves your character. Three to five paragraphs is perfect. It can be anything you want, barring an actual logged RP session. We want to see your freeform writing skills.

Now the hard part. Waiting. Once I get your application, I will send it to all the Moderators, and we will discuss it. If we don't like it, I will PM you and let you know that we have decided against accepting you into the Guild. I will also give you a few reasons why your application was turned down. Hopefully, this will help you understand what weaknesses you may have that we caught. Everything can be approved. If you are turned down, there is a two month waiting period before you can apply again. Applying before that will destroy any chance you may have had at EVER getting in.

When the Moderators accept your application, you will recieve a PM from one of us, asking you to join us at a thread on one of the open Gaia forums. This will be the role playing part of your application process. The MOD will create a thread for you to join. Be careful. The setting will be completely up to the MOD, and he or she will be playing it up. The idea here will be to see your style of role play in action, as well as to gauge your adaptability in unforseen situations. When the RP is finally concluded (At the Moderators discretion, of course), he or she will send the link to all the other MODs.

After this final round of debate, you will again recieve either a nay with an explanation as to why, or a full blown invite to The Guild. Congratulations! Or... Condolances... Whatever.

Once you are in, it is very important that you first re-read and reply to the Rules and Guidelines in the Rules thread. This "signature" verifies that you agree to follow what is stated in that thread. After that, you are free to jump in. Although I highly suggest that you read up on The Brink and its denizens first. Even post your own characters Bio in the Biography thread. I mean. Since you already have one made out! And always remember, In order to stay in the Guild, you MUST make at least one post a month, per character!!!

~~~End!~~~
*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*SAMPLE WRITTEN APPLICATION*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:
Character Name: Evalynn May Stroper. No one knows her by this name though. She is the Silver Star Gunner. Known to her aquaintances and friends as Sil.
Current time period: 1879 A.D.
Current place of origin:
Started off in San Antonio, came up through Austin, crossed the Brazos, and now heading right alongside the Trinity, towards the railheads in Kansas... going where the dogies go...
Age: 18 years... more moons than ol' Dancin Fox cared to count, like he used to say.
Height: 5'4"
Weight: kinda twiggy, but the horse goes faster than the cow if the rider isn't one.
Species: Human
Physical Description: Kind of a skinny girl, shiny brown eyes, dusty gold hair, tied back in a braid. She's got a pretty face, but that's never stopped her before.
Typical Dress: Sil wears dusty jeans, and a light thin-pattern flannel button down, tucked into them. She's got some mean leather boots with spurs, and occasionally has some work gloves on, depending on what she's doing. Yes, she has a hat...but it only comes out on special occassions.
Occupation: Sil lives out of a sachel, travelin with just as much as she can carry comfortably, near the lines of the cattle rush trail to Kansas. If she needs food, she'll stop along the towns and work an odd job, or land a couple shooting bets (which are easy to come by if she doesn't tell them that she's the Silver Star Gunner). Also, when she finds a stray dogie, she tracks the herd it got from, and returns it. The ranglers are usually kind.
Magical or Supernatural Powers:
absolutely none.
Brief History: Sil doesn't consider her history all that important. If you ask her, she'll tell you that she grew up south of San Antonio in a little piece of land her daddy called the shoulder plot because of the way the land was shaped along its border. She didn't have much to do in those parts, being as she never took much to cleanin, and had too much a temper for marrying. So one night she up and left, and she's been travelin ever since, her straight shootin keeping her a'keepin.
Brief Description of Personality: Sil is a simple girl. She'll pull one over you if she thinks you're gullable, and most of you are. But it's always in good spirits, and she'll never take what isn't her's. She respects hard workers, and especially respects people who know how to have a good time. You'll find her tellin stories about her travels over a fire at night, or during the day, you could catch her finishing up a bar fight with nothing but a black eye, a fat lip, and a couple bruises. She's been known to get set off easier than others, and she's not shy about asserting herself... with her fists if her voice isn't loud enough. But all in all, she's in good spirits when she's in good company.
Brief Description of Character Strengths and Weaknesses:
She's a sharp shooter, as you may have gathered. She hasn't had much of an education, and she's never been a girl serious about religion, but boy she can wrangle you with her words just as good as she could with a rope. And that's pretty darn good. She loves talking, and sometimes she even loves saying stuff. She's quick on her feet, and quick with a comeback, always able to defend herself. Unfortunately, the name goes to her head, and she can on occassion bite off more than she can chew. Though, she's been smart enough to come out alive all these times, she must be good for something.
Sample Application #2
Character Name: Domingo "The Yellow Devil" Delahoja
Current time period: 2008 AD (alternate reality)
Current place of origin: Los Angeles, California
Age: 37
Height: 9' 11"
Weight: 535 lbs.
Species: Half-ogre
Physical Description: Domingo resembles nothing so much as a large, mustard yellow brick wall. His head is a massive neckless stump, a trim goatee the only real evidence of a chin. He keeps the top of his head shaved bald. He has a large flat nose, heavy brow and, perpetually bloodshot eyes. He lost his upper left canine in a barfight when he was hit by a leprechaun (the leprechaun was being thrown at the time) and so he has a large, prominent gold tooth in its place.
His hands are enormous, to the point that he has trouble handling most every-day human items. His right hand is partially petrified due to a cockatrice bite, and although doctors were able to save it, the resulting loss of feeling and sensation makes it difficult to use. He retrained himself to do everything with his left hand and reserves the right has his "punching hand." He has a tattoo on his inner arm that reads "209," but when asked, he refuses to say anything about the numbers. They are, in fact, a reminder of his wife's birthday.
Typical Dress: Black leather biker jacket emblazoned with a flaming cross and the legend "El Diablo Amarillo," open with a t-shirt (or more typically, no shirt) underneath, jeans and harness boots. He wears a gold wedding band that's just about big enough to be a bracelet and a large gold hoop earring.
Occupation: Strip Club Bouncer
Magical or Supernatural Powers: Apart from his punching hand which has been known to crack mortar and break cinderblocks (and skulls) on occasion, there's nothing particularly supernatural about him. He is much stronger than an average human, but that shouldn't be a surprise, given his size.
Brief History: Domingo grew up in poverty in Mexico City. A child of rape, he never knew his real father (an ogre of one of the many clans that live in Mexico), nor did he ever have the desire to seek him out. He lived with his mother and grandfather until he was six, when his grandfather died. Destitute, he and his mother came to America, where his mother got a job as a cleaning lady.
Ogres are few in America compared to dwarves, elves, halflings, and orcs, and so, even in Los Angeles, he was something of an outcast. In high school, Domingo played on several athletics teams, and he might have gone professional, however a cockatrice bite ended his athletics career and very nearly ended his life. After his injury, he couldn't pursue a career in either law enforcement or the military, and so he took whatever security jobs he could find until he landed his current bouncer position at a demihuman strip bar. He married the proprietess, Nimue, a nymph with a thing for big, strong men, and his life, while hardly perfect is pretty stable.
Brief Description of Personality: Domingo comes off as gruff, no-nonsense man of few words, as befits a bouncer, however this is mainly because he's painfully shy. He warms up in friendly company and he's a fairly amiable fellow as long as you don't break the code of conduct. He is first and formost the protector, and will always rush to the aid of someone in need. He isn't overly fond of pets, but he loves little children. He's a devout catholic. He has passion for reading, particularly philosophy and political theory. He speaks three languages, english, spanish, and french. His wife is trying (unsuccesfully) to teach him early breton.
Brief Description of Character Strengths and Weaknesses: Domingo is overly protective of women. Regardless of whether they're right or wrong, he will almost always side with a woman in an argument. If it's two women, he'll subconsciously choose the woman he deems "weaker" and defend her. He tends to be blind to all women's shortcomings, although he is unusually shrewd and perceptive when it comes to men. He is not quick to anger, but if he does lose his temper he's quite prone to breaking things.
Because of his cockatrice bite, Domingo sometimes experiences shooting pains along his right arm. Although painful, they are not debilitating. The doctors have told him there is a small chance that he might die at any time. Cockatrice victims have turned to stone upwards of fifty years after they were bitten. He can never be completely certain he's safe. Because of this, and because he's a good Catholic, he tries to live a clean, healthy life, so that if he dies tomorrow, his soul will be ready.
