thats right...this thread is dedicated to a entrance portfolio consisting of TEN images that is due in two weeks...THAT is because I let my mind wander off too much with other concepts and ideas

have one done.....for the figure drawing category...

despite his stiff pose and whatnot...I've decided to keep him included...because I had already put a whole crud of effort into him....before the fact.....

still...a lot of tweaking shall occur as I fix various things along the edges and refine the small things....

entrance to where?

was he drawn from direct reference? that may be what they're looking for when they say 'figure drawing.'

Art institute of Houston's Media arts and animation program....

no reference was taken....as I live in a area where finding somebody to model for you is like askin them to strip naked and run across the football field at halftime...

Yeah "figure drawing" usually refers to from life or from photograph, Boog. :O

PS: Most employers laugh at AIS degrees. Be aware of this. Their classes are s**t, from what I've learned. Have you been to the campus? Have you seen the digital work they have on display, or the 3D work? It's mad scary bad.

eek

I was planning on going there (in Houston) for animation until about 6 months before high school ended. Then it was like, hmm, high prices and bad, bad, bad reviews. x_x

Did you by chance go to one of the over-summer programs for animation? >.>

rofl Some of the teachers there went to Lamar in Beaumont for their masters degree, my current Drawing professor taught some of them. He said he felt sorry for anyone who went there. x_x My art teacher in high school was emphatic about not going to AIH.

...I GOT A FREE T-SHIRT FROM THEM, THOUGH! :333

As for the picture, it doesn't seem representative of the really neat work you do a lot. ^^;

go to Craigslist and ask around for a figure-drawing group in your area, there's bound to be one. if there's a neighborhood center of the arts anywhere near you, there's bound to be one. figure-drawing is a favourite of arthritic old people dabbling/morethandabbling in the arts.

something you could do is go to this school for a year or two and shop around for other, better schools and transfer or something. i don't know how art institute schools are for transfers, but it could be worth a shot, and you could start building up a more professional portfolio.
although honestly i don't know that you'll get much done freshman year. art schools tend to treat new students like kindergarteners, and if you've taken any art classes already you'll probably have to take them again.

AI is a sham, avoid at all costs. as long as you wave $$$ in their face, they will let you into the school.

beef up your portfolio with drawings and other works from life, not imagination.

i'm not going to bother critiquing your work, but just let this serve as a warning that the art institute schools are a shitty franchise. unless you feel like wasting your time and money, don't even bother applying.
