She's describing her initial reactions to the changing Doctor concept when she was a newbie fan back in the 80's. The early-to-mid 80's is about the time when the first great Doctor Who Fandom boom started in the US. It would be awesome if we got another such explosion...there were cons all over the place back then from about the mid-80's to the mid-90's. This weekend Colin is at a con in Chicago. It's so rare now to get a Doctor at a con outside of California, seems like.... sad

knightofthe21stcentury ThPriestess OMG, I can not believe I missed the date entirely . . . Maybe I actually have a life? rofl rofl rofl BTW, my parents were married in '63, I was born in '68, which makes me only 5 years younger than the Doctor eek . Didn't see the show 'till '83, though. Tom Baker (Doc 4) repeats in the US. Funny thing was, I never knew there was more than one Doctor until like a year later, when someone was watching some Peter Davison (Doc 5) ep., and I said, "Dude, that's not Doctor Who, that's that drunk vet student from All Creatures Great and Small!" lol What are you implying?! evil _____________________________________________________ >>> <<<Nothing against Doc 5--it's just I used to watch a lot of Public Television with my mom as a kid (sound familiar, Ceribri?), and I LOVED watching All Creatures Great and Small, which had Peter Davison as "Tristan," the young, cute, frequently-smashed, always-trying-to-get-girls veterenarian. He was my fave on the show (of course!), and my sister actually had a crush on him. Anyway, I saw him as the Doctor, and hoped maybe he'd be as much fun . . . but it looks like we had to wait for "The Girl in the Mirror" to see a true "Party Doc" Not that I don't think there was stuff going on off-camera with Tegan . . . rofl rofl rofl And Eirwyn, do you really want big Doctor Who cons on the East coast again? That would potentially mean ME in the same hotel as Colin Baker, or Sylvester McCoy, or, *gasp*, David Tennant. mrgreen Though I can't see Mr. "I've decided I prefer Shakespeare" doing American cons. Unless maybe he thinks it's fun to get glomped to death. heart heart heart burning_eyes

Just because you had to pretend you didn't know me that one time in Cleveland . . . and that incident with the tomato juice was totally, 100% accidental . . . rofl rofl rofl (you know the expression "Someday we'll look back and laugh?" All our old cons were like that.)

knightofthe21stcentury ROFL!!! What did he say? _____________________________________________________ >>> <<<Erm . . . I don't remember . . . something pitiful about it having been a gift, I think . . . I just remember a big guy dressed as a Gallifreyan Citadel Guard telling me that Security said I'd better leave the con "before anything else happens". This, btw, is why I have a very special place in my heart for young fans in all their silly glory. Oh, and Eirwyn drew a very funny cartoon inspired by the event. Post, pleeze? (since this is rapidly turning into the "Th'Priestess' most Embarassing Moments" thread anyway)

If I can find it.... It was printed on the cover of one of the CoDW newsletters, I recall.... And that incident wasn't the only reason they did that--but maybe we shouldn't talk about the rest of the con before that....poor Syl. ninja
