Winter time is great because in a few short months all those lovely gardening and seed catalogs will be coming in!

I'm currently trying to find relatively local sources of organic and Heirloom seeds (because they'll hopefully be naturalized to this area of the US)

One great resource for all you new englanders. The new england wild flower society, which supports the use and propogation of native plants, sells plants and seeds. You need to wait until January to view the online catalogue.

Today I've requested the following catalogs.

Kitchen Garden Seeds (based in Connecticut)
http://www.kitchengardenseeds.com

They guarantee high quality viable seed and sell many heirloom varieties. They also do not sell treated seed nor genetically modified seed.

High Mowing Organic Seeds (vermont)
http://www.highmowingseeds.com

Certified organic seed company. Their 2009 catalog is downloadable! http://www.highmowingseeds.com/organic-seed-catalog.html

The Cook's Garden (PA)
http://www.cooksgarden.com/

Pledge not to sell seed that has been treated with synthetic chemicals, and where ever possible to offer seed that has been organically grown. They are charter signatories to the Safe Seed Pledge and do not support the development of genetically engineered seeds or sell them

Comstock, Ferre (CT)
http://www.comstockferre.com/seeds.htm

Sells heirloom, untreated, and open pollinated seeds. Their entire catalog is online.

Also, Heirloom Seeds (PA) sells non GMO heirloom varieties and their catalog and ordering is entirely online. http://www.heirloomseeds.com/

Native Seed Search Is a good site for heirloom seeds and for original local grown seeds. They are trying to bring back some of the old veggies that native american tribes used to grow. It is a good site.
