*feel free to move this if its in the wrong area*

So, The winter holidays are upon us!

What kind of traditions do you do with your kids? Family?

Is there a pecial way you "track" Santa or write letters to him?

Do you do some sort of special decorating for the holidays?

I'd love to hear everyone's ideas. Its my first Winter Holiday time with my son where he's really active into everything, and I want it to be fun for him.

With my family we go over my inlaws on Christmas eve and my parents on Christmas.

We haven't really really started any set in stone traditions yet though. We were going to have one that the kids opened a small present on Christmas Eve, but last year Dedrick got so much....stuff from family members that I've limited us to only buying the kids ONE present for Christmas.

It'll be Aden's first Christmas this year, so we don't have any traditions yet, but I'm really looking forward to starting some, and carrying on some from our families.

One that I really want to keep from my family is opening new PJs on Christmas Eve. That's always been my favourite one, I think, and I'd love to do it.

I'd really like to start making breakfast on Christmas morning too. I saw on the side of an egg nog carton a recipe for egg nog pancakes, so I think that could be something really cool to eat every year on Christmas.

When I was a kid, we'd track Santa on this website. Ah! Here it is: Norad Santa tracker. We'd just leave the window open or something and watch it all night until we went to bed. That's something really fun to do with your kids, at least I think so!

We just do simple things, like making cookies and decorating the tree. And throwing "reindeer food" outside (oatmeal) to feed Santa's friends. I try not to go too overboard with everything.

We don't have many traditions involving the holidays. Our daughter has only just figured out opening presents this year. And it will probably be the last year for switching which of our parents we go visit.

Normally, we decorate our two Christmas trees and the mantle. One day, we'll decorate outside too, just not yet... I don't trust our neighborhood. However, seeing as I have a two and a half year old and two kittens in the house this year, (and we're traveling) we're not breaking out the trees this year. I really don't feel like picking the tree up off the floor every morning.

As far as Santa goes, both me and my husband decided before we ever met that we weren't going to perpetuate the Santa myth with our children. I mean, I love the story of Santa, but now a days, it's seems to be just a reason to have to buy two sets of presents. We're gonna tell them the story and teach them to be sensitive to the fact that other children do still believe Santa exists.

We do a few things.

We always make certain foods like mulled apple cider and cookies together. I make a breakfast casserole the actual day off.

NORAD does a Santa tracker on Christmas Eve. I let ds write letters or scribble and I either "mail" it off or email them. I can't remember the sites I use off the top of my head.

We always decorate right after Thanksgiving together.

My dh is Catholic, so Santa (St. Nicolas) is real to us. I often read the stories of his life and emphasis the meaning and spirit. We do not have special Santa gifts. We also do not put gifts out under the tree until the night before Christmas. Dh likes to go to mass as a family, but I don't know if we will be able to this year with his schedule.

We also wait until after breakfast, cleaned up, and take turns opening gifts.

We also do Toys for Tots.

If dh has to work either of the dates, we adjust accordingly.
